The two vacation rental cottages at 17 Palms Kauai, chosen by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine as one of "20 perfect places to stay in Hawaii," are in a private garden oasis at the end of Wailua Bay (made famous in Elvis' "Blue Hawaii"). Everything you might need while on Kauai is just a short walk away, as the two cottages are located across the street from the beach access and only one block from the outdoor shops and restaurants of the Coconut Marketplace.
Surrounded by 17 palms, the two cottages sit at opposite sides of a lushly planted garden. Meli Meli, the larger of the cottages, has two bedrooms (King Bed & two Twin Beds) and one bathroom. It is decorated in bold Pacific fabrics with bamboo accents. Across the garden is Hale Iki, a one bedroom cottage (Queen Bed), with its Japanese décor. The fences surrounding the property are covered with flowering vines. The fruit of mango, fig, papaya, avocado, coconut and banana tress are yours for the picking. Orchids and herbs fill the small rock garden. A bamboo pavilion is the ideal spot for a snack and a snooze.
The beauty of Wailua Bay is surely why the ancient Hawaiians chose it as the site for a heiau (sacred place), the remains of which are still visible at the end of the beach access and are listed on the National Historic Register. To the left of the heiau is open ocean, great for surfing and swimming, with miles of beach for walking. To the right of the heiau is a small bay, ideal for boogie boarding and swimming. And then there is the baby beach, made safe by boulders protecting it from the ocean.
The cottages are perfect for families, as they are a lovely, quiet refuge in a popular resort area. The beach has something for everyone. Part of the family can be swimming while others are shopping or eating at the Marketplace, and nobody needs a car! Once you see 17 Palms, we hope you'll agree with Conde Nast's recommendation! ***All the amenities listed below are for Meli Meli, the larger cottage. Hale Iki, the smaller cottage, has a full kitchen but does not have a washing machine, dryer or dishwasher.

Owner Description
Ross and Jeff are transplants from San Francisco. We had the pleasure of staying in these cottages while on vacation and immediately fell in love with them. We are still pinching ourselves that we are now the owners of this charming and unique property. 17 Palms Kauai really is an oasis on an oasis - lush, private and only steps from the beach.
Jeff is a Bay Area native - a former CFO with a background in business management. Ross is originally from New Hampshire. His background is in theatre and fine art, having worked 9 years at the prestigious John Pence Gallery in San Francisco. Ross is now a licensed realtor with Sleeping Giant Sotheby's International Realty. This is our first mid-life crisis - we skipped the red sports car and moved directly to the tropical island.
