- Yachats, known as the “Gem of the Oregon Coast”, is adjacent to Cape Perpetua, which is its highest point, offering breath taking views the ocean, headlands, and forest. The town itself is also known as a friendly gathering place for artists, artisans, writers, free spirits, and lovers of nature. This community provides a rich context for anyone involved in these things. In addition to a great place for fishing and crabbing, the town offers good restaurants with live music, and festivals in spring, summer, and fall. Although the Spring, Summer and Fall are spectacularly beautiful, many come in the Winter to watch the storms come in off of the ocean. The town provides activities for children and youth, and the neighboring towns of Florence and Newport offer many recreational activities including dune buggy rides, whale watching trips, and helicopter rides. The Alsea, one of two lovely rivers near us, is particularly known for canoeing, kayaking, camping, and other recreational opportunities. ...moreless

The best trip of our lives
The best trip of our lives
My wife and I and our two boys, ages 5 and 3, spent the month of July in this cottage. It was the best trip of our lives. We came from Texas to escape the heat, but this trip turned out to be so much more. The cottage is well furnished, very comfortable, very clean, and the owners are very responsive to emails and phone calls. But the best part is that this cottage is less than a 10 minute walk to the beach. We went there several times every day. One section of the beach has very large, smooth lava rocks that have numerous tide pools. Every low tide was a new set of adventures for our boys. They spent every day playing on the rocks, searching the tide pools for crabs, fish, star fish, anemones, barnacles, etc. They were never bored. Many times we built a fire at the beach and had dinner there. Several times we saw whale spouts about 100 yards off the shore, and once we saw a whale's tail. There's one section of lava rocks that form half of a bowl, and when the tide is rising, the waves go crashing in and it's a spectacular sight. Our boys called them "ocean fireworks;" my wife and I could sit and watch the crashing waves for an hour. Also, behind the cottage are some nice mountains with very well maintained trails. Walking those trails was both good exercise and very peaceful. One evening we saw a 5 point buck eating the flowers in a neighbor's yard. This cottage has a nice yard perfect for playing capture the flag, kick the can, etc. And the blackberries started to ripen just before we left. Cape Perpetua is just 3 miles south of Yachats, and it was fantastic. We made several trips to Newport and Lincoln City, but the beach at Yachats is by far the best. There's also a very well maintained trail that winds between the beach and the forest and it goes for several miles, so you can walk to different sections of the beach easily. We definitely want to go back. We highly recommend this cottage and Yachats to anyone interested in the area.

First Time in Oregon
First Time in Oregon
Coming from Kansas, we had never been to Oregon before. My daughter who lives in LA had found the cottage online and had always wanted to go stay and do some writing. We decided to fly into Portland and drive down to Yachats. We had the most wonderful week there!!!!! The cottage is so cute and comfortable. It had everything we needed. The location was perfect for walking to the water and for hiking in the forest. You cannot see the ocean from the cottage but you can hear it which is so soothing. My husband walked over to the water every morning to do some painting and he has some great pictures. We tried all of the restaurants in Yachats and did not have a bad experience in any of them. Some sightseeing things we did were to travel to a covered bridge, lighthouses, the Sea Lion Cave, and our last evening there while walking along the water, we saw a whale which made the trip complete! We want to come back for sure. We have told all of our friends and have passed along the information. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much.

Why the Owner Chose Yachats:
We fell in love with this cottage for its fir wood floors, which we day lighted, and it's large, old fashioned windows. We fell in love with this quaint cottage for its beautiful setting near old growth forest and both rock and sandy beach, and enjoyed the 2+ years of renovating and furnishing it. It was a creative project for us.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Linda loves to use it as a place to work on poetry and her novel. Lyle loves the serenity of the surroundings and the rejuvenating effects of being by the ocean and the national forest. We both enjoy the walks on the 804 that we make everyday, getting breakfast at the Green Salmon coffee shop, watching the sunsets, and experiencing the local culture in this friendly, small town.
