Kaunakakai condo description
Our unit is on the east end of the second floor of the only oceanfront building. There are two bedrooms, one bathroom, and an oceanfront lanai. It was fully remodeled in 2009. Please note that only in two bedroom apartments is the master bedroom ocean front. Enjoy, like we do, sleeping this close to the shore. As it is on the second floor, privacy is not an issue. Also, because it is the end apartment with added windows in the kitchen and master bedroom, there is increased ventilation and a view of the pool and cabana area.
The ocean is only a few feet from the building. There are visible remnants of Hawaiian fishponds along this shore. Have your morning coffee on the lanai while watching the sun come up behind Maui with the islands of Lanai and Kaho'olawe in the background across the Paliolo Channel. On clear mornings, look for the big island of Hawaii over 100 miles away.

- Wavecrest is 13 miles from Kaunakakai, and about a 20 to 25 minute drive. As you head east from Kaunakakai you will notice the vegetation getting more luxuriant. By the time you pull off the two-lane road at mile marker 13 you will have entered the 'tropics' and be welcomed by the beautiful landscaping of the resort. The resort is on five green, landscaped, waterfront acres. On the grounds you can enjoy a pool with cabana, tennis, two gas barbecues, plenty of room and lounges and tables for just plain relaxing. The pool and cabana are located right on the oceanfront. There is enjoyable walking right out the entrance on the lightly traveled road or trails in the hills to the east of the resort. There are three, three-story, main buildings occupied by mostly seasonal owners. We have never seen full occupancy even in the busy winter season. This is one of the only shores in Hawaii with a barrier reef. The reef keeps the waves down so there is generally calm water in the foreshore with the constantly changing reef break about one-fourth-mile off shore. From late December to April, Humpback whales return to these waters between the islands. They are often seen right off shore. Delightful Island Getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unit. Molokai is lovely, peaceful and relaxing. It is not overly developed, so it still has that island charm. The condo is clean and bright and very well equipped. I was worried about no air conditioning because I'm from Alaska! But there is great through ventilation and three ceiling fans so it was quite comfortable. One of my favorite things to do on a Hawaiian vacation is have breakfast on the lanai and look at the ocean. This unit has a roomy lanai and a full view of the ocean and the sun coming up behind Maui, gorgeous!! The pool and cabana are great places to hang out and the grounds are beautifully kept. It is a little tricky to walk around that end of the island because the roads are so narrow and have very little shoulder, but drivers travel slowly and they seem to watch for walkers and give plenty of room. We did make great use of a few nearby trails recommended by the owners and enjoyed that. The owners were very helpful and friendly, it is obvious they care about this property and love to share it with others. I highly recommend this condo!

This was our first time to stay at this facility. We have been to Molokai several times before, but stayed in different facilities. We had a great time and really relaxed. (That's what we like about Molokai!!!!!) The unit is in a great location, with ocean front view. Can lay in bed and watch the sunrise over Maui. The unit is nicely furnished with a fully equipped kitchen and lots of utensils and eating and drinking ware. It is nice to have the second bedroom in the back. The photos and description do a nice job of describing the unit. We would definitely come back to this unit and recommend it to relatives and friends.

About the owner: We live in Mendocino county and work in education and legal agriculture (pears, apples, wine grapes and walnuts). We visited Molokai during a three week Christmas holiday in 2001. We were impressed by the friendliness of the family we stayed with and the pace, as we perceived it, of Molokai life.
