Charming and wonderful
Charming and wonderful
My family loved their stay at this home. It was comfortable, clean and charming. Could not have asked for more. The owners were responsive to our questions and there was obvious pride of ownership. Too bad there are any negative reviews. We found the entire stay perfect. Thank you for a terrific experience.

Shame on the Owner
Shame on the Owner
This house was truly misrepresented in the ad on VRBO. We arrived after an 8 hour flight only to find the house a pigsty. After calling the owner three times, he finally called me back and did make arrangements for my family to stay in a nearby hotel. We are currently at the home and want anyone who decides to rent this place, to reconsider. There is only one shower - not two. The air conditioning consists of a window unit downstairs and a standing unit upstairs which is useless. The toaster does not work. When we arrived, we found two dozen eggs in the basement that were dated back to January 2013. There were dirty towels and linens found throughout the house. The sink in the kitchen looked like someone vomited in it. The floors were filthy. The stove was filthy and the refrigerator was not cleaned out from the previous tenants. The owner did come up with a story that the cleaning lady was not aware of our arrival date - I only had this place booked 4 months in advance. The pool was filthy - the vacuum was in the pool, the filter was not working. The yard is unkept and the garbage was full of dirty diapers and garbage that had not been emptied. The ice maker does not work on the refrigerator. The pilot light was out when we arrived and the entire bottom floor smelled of gas, to the point that we all got headaches and got nausea and had to sit outside to get air. The outdoor grill is filthy and we were told there was a 9:00 p.m. curfew - but it is currently past 9:30 and the neighbors are screaming at the top of their lungs. I am 5 days into my vacation and am still awaiting the Security Department of VRBO to return my telephone call. If you have reservations, please reconsider - this house is certainly not worth the rent and is totally misrepresented in the add. I will never go through VRBO again. The owner should be ashamed.

Misrepresented, with no help in sight
Misrepresented, with no help in sight
My girlfriend and I arrived to the property to find an empty pizza box in the middle of the driveway. A cursory inspection of the house seemed to reveal nothing unusual, but then we saw the backyard and the pool. The backyard was overgrown and unkept, and the pool was dirty, cold and the filter was not working. There was no property manager present, nor was the owner. As we contemplated what to do, a pool person arrived, and started cleaning, but told us she dodn't know how to fix the pool. It was supposed to be a heated pool, but she didn't have a clue as to how to make it filter or heat. My girlfriend then called the owner, who returned her call. He tried to talk me through the process of making the filter work, but that was unsuccessful. Disappointed, my girlfriend and I left to go to dinner, hoping that the owner would be able to reach the main pool guy. While at dinner, the main pool guy called, told us that he had everything working, but that there was no way we could expect the pool to get warm, unless there was a massive heat wave in the coming days. My girlfriend had asked specifically about the pool being heated for us to use day and night, and the owner assured us this would be arranged. Well, it wasn't. Upon our return from dinner, we noticed how hot the house was, and went to turn on the central air conditioning, only to learn none existed. The 'air conditioning" consisted of a window unit in the downstairs living room, and a portable unit in the upstairs bathroom, with the exhaust tube duct-taped to the bathroom window, all to cool a large two-story house. The three bedrooms had no air conditioning, only overhead fans that basically circulated the heat. We realized that we weren't going to get much sleep that night, and ended up taking a few things and staying with some friends in the area. Subsequent attempts to reach the owner failed; other than the one call, he never returned our calls. The next day, we went back to the house, gathered our bags and left, hoping to salvage our vacaton elsewhere. The saddest part in all of this is that the owner seemed to not care at all; he already had our money (a decision I sorely regret), and didn't look to make anything right. We are currently in negotiation with VRBO to try and right this situation. For anyone staying here in the future, be careful what you are getting into. I wouldn't recommmend it. The property looks good in pictures, but is totally misrepresnted. Renter beware.

Owner response: The Parish House has a 35000 gallon pool in a park like setting. The pool is solar heated. Typical temperature for the pool is 76-80 deg. Pools are designed to be comfortable, not a hot tub. Yes the backyard has a park like setting. This means that the trees are big and we have shrubs for privacy purposes. As a owner WE STRIVE TO MAKE OUR GUESTS HAPPY. If any guest has a complaint we do take it serious and we typically have it resolved in an hour. Our pool man was out to dinner with his wife when he got my call. He ran to the Parish House to look at the pool. His report back was that the pool was 78 deg. We strive to make everyone feel at home. We understand that there may be times that we can't please everyone but we do our best. Remember this is our home, not a four star hotel although we try to make it that way.
