Blowing Rock cabin description
Welcome and thanks for considering us!
Our rates range from 93$ per night for two guests, up to 213$ per night for your large party of 14. Email owner for quote, as nightly rates & cleaning fees are calculated based on the number in your party.
New! We now have high speed fiber optic internet access, plus free local & long distance calling. Your laptop will connect immediately to our WIFI, no password required.
This cabin is centrally located for visiting Blowing Rock, Boone, Lenoir & Leatherwood, plus many NC waterfalls, parks, hiking, biking, and fishing, riding ATVs or riding your horse! Your own home away from home, this mountain home will welcome you after a day of sight-seeing or attending local events, especially events in Leatherwood!
The home is ideal for:
1) secluded get away
3) bible study
4) family reunions or other family fun
5) visiting the local attractions in Blowing Rock or Boone
6) relaxing & enjoying nature & family
7) attending Leatherwood events: weddings, organized runs, horseback riding or eating at the Saddlebrook restaurant on the weekends.
This home is a joy for families & pets alike, it is spacious & homey, with pine paneling throughout. Parents with small children LOVE the gated, covered wrap-around deck, as do dog owners.
The Cabin is situated in the Deer Crossing Community, just off of state road Sampson, on Little White Rock Mountain, near the boundary of Watauga and Wilkes counties. Rain or shine, the views from the cabin are incredible, esp. in the fall or when the mist moves over the treetops.
The distance from the home to the Blue Ridge Parkway is 7 mi, 9 mi to Blowing Rock city limits, 11.6 miles to Tweetsie Railroad, 13.5 miles to Boone, 13.5 mi to App Skiing, 13.1 miles to Kilwins for ice cream, 15.5 miles to great food at Daniel Boone Inn & a visit to App State, Mystery Hill 13.5, Tanger Outlets shopping 12.2, 6.1 miles to horseback riding or trout fishing at Leatherwood (Darby).
We have 2 ways to get to Blowing Rock and Boone:
1) The quickest route is to take Sampson to the Parkway (right on parkway), then left on Aho which dead ends on 321. Sampson is a gravel state maintained road. There is 6 miles of gravel road from the home to the one mile paved section that connects to the parkway at Aho. It takes us 18 minutes to traverse this, if not accustomed to mountain driving, add 5-10 minutes. But you might be rewarded with wildlife sightings! Each time we travel the road, we see Deer, wild turkeys & we even saw a bear! Sampson is a typical mountain road with curves but the scenery is outstanding!
2) A guest has found an alternate way with minimum gravel road travel by taking Sampson (turn left out of Deer Crossing) to Elk Creek road (right on Elk Creek), then take Buffalo Cove road to highway 268 to 321. Takes longer but is mostly paved except for the part on Sampson you need to take to get to Elk Creek road. We don’t have the mileage for that route.
Once you have paid the deposit, I will send all the info that you need to access the home, plus amenities & info for attractions.
Our guests love that we furnish so many things in the cabin. They all say that you only need to bring your meals & yourselves. Everything else is there. We take pride in making our guests feel welcome. The views are amazing & there are many things to do in & around the home. The property is wooded & nature is a few feet away. The community is great for walking, for your comfort out & about, we have a can of Off! in the laundry room cabinet. Note, if you are hiking in less traveled wooded paths, wear long pants & before coming into the home, brush them off & park muddy boots outside the door.
Our guests do spelunking at Linville Caverns, hike, bird watch & boat at Julian Price Lake along the Parkway, white water raft at Wahoo, bike on Railroad Grade rd then tube at Todd while others do trout fishing & horseback riding at Leatherwood. Some guests have found Wilson Creek to be good for canoeing & hiking.
There are directions to these locations in the binder inside the home. You can take one of the pages out, go on your adventure then return the page to the binder for the next visitor. The Blue Ridge Parkway area has many Birding sites. One is located at Julian Price Memorial Park; another is located at Elk Knob near Todd. Check out North Carolina Birding Trail org for more info!
There are wonderful long range layered mountain views from the deck, upstairs balcony & from inside the living room.
We have 4 bedrooms, 2 upstairs bedrooms each with a balcony that comes with two double beds & share one bathroom, the master & basement bedrooms have a queen bed & ensuite bathroom. All linens and towels are sanitized in preparation for your arrival. The master will be made up for you, but the remainder of sheets will be left out for you to choose the bed in the room that suits you.
You will enjoy preparing meals in the well equipped kitchen & grilling on the huge gas grill. Everything you need is at hand! For those not helping in the meal preparation, there is high speed internet WIFI, PC games & loads of things to check out on the internet. If you have a laptop with a Netflix account, you'll have no trouble downloading at this new high speed! If you find something new & different, like looking for precious stones, print the location directions on the printer to take with you. We hear western NC is a fabulous place for that kind of thing. Good luck mining!
Later, watch Satellite TV, get on the internet or watch a DVD. For that romantic touch, turn on the fireplace with the remote, watch the flames & pulsating embers, while enjoying the long range layered mountain views.
After a day of hiking, you may want to wash your duds then play a rousing game of Pool, Darts or Foosball. For the family that enjoys various activities, we have 3 DVD players, 2 TVs, & a large basement with space for games (a 3rd TV and VHS player can be placed in any of the upstairs bedrooms, but please put back in the basement before you leave). Some of the guests have named the basement 'The Kid Zone'.
The home is great for reading & relaxing. It is so quiet & peaceful. Or just sit & do nothing on one of the 4 swings on the covered & gated, wrap around deck. So many things to enjoy!
This lovely home has features for everyone! Fabulous views and wonderful breezes! The home is very welcoming, decorated with horse prints, photos of Italy & includes some of the photography of artist Margaret Denny. We have several antiques in the home that you will enjoy. The antique dining table has several leaves, allowing it to seat 1-8 comfortably. Check out the coffee table, read the inside! There is also an antique book that is fun to page through.
Outside the home, you'll find a reflection bench, a swing surrounded by daffodils in season with long range views. There is a fenced dog run for your favorite pooches, but can accommodate 2 horses (that get along well).
Bring your ATV, cycling, canoeing or fishing gear, the pull through drive way accommodates 5 or more cars, or car & trailer (motorcycle, canoe, horse or 4 wheeler).
There are multiple bird feeders next to the home, come watch the birds! Small supplies of bird seed is provided in a black can on the deck, or bring your own. We also have sugar to make food for the two Hummingbird feeders (during the summer)! Feeders are located in the shed, along with a spare tank of gas for the grill.
This secluded home has irises, daffodils, mountain laurel & rhododendrons. The night time views are spectacular; with the stars so close you think you can touch them. We have a star book to help you identify constellations, plus a pair of binoculars.
Just off the parkway, the kids will enjoy Tow-Mader in Coffeytown. It's fun to see that character where you'd never expect it! We recently spotted it at a gas station after you turn off of Aho road onto 321. He gets around!
You will love your day trip to laid back Blowing Rock, Kilwins ice cream shop is a must do, as is Tweetsie for the kids (April-Nov). Boone is famous for App state & Mast General Store, plus, Daniel Boone Inn, where the food is terrific! The Saddlebrook restaurant in Leatherwood is open on weekends for some tasty fare. When out shopping, don't worry, buy what you want & protect it in one of the Styrofoam coolers we provide. Or, take one with you on a day trip to keep sandwiches & drinks cool. You can even take one of the Styrofoam coolers home with you, we have 4 and often bring up replacements.
There are guide books at the home to find the less-traveled hiking paths along the Blue Ridge Parkway & the locations of waterfalls in the area.
We have granite countertops now, hardwood flooring, new carpeting & flooring in the basement. You & your party are very important to us, so we try to make the home comfy & inviting with everything you need.
We ask guests with dogs (regardless of their type of coat) to vacuum any carpeted rooms that they enter. We provide & ask that you use sheets to cover fabric furniture as they can leave hair and dander on fabric furniture; this also helps future guests who have pet allergies. Otherwise we will deduct a 50$ pet fee for cleaning.
In the mountains, any cell phone coverage is spotty, especially traveling the Parkway. Keep this in mind while away from the home. At the home, we have a network extender that allows Verizon phones to work. Other cell phones may work at the top of the hill just past our property (reported to me by past renters). There is no cell phone tower in the area, but you can also use our landline for local & long distance at no cost to you.
This is truly THE place to unplug from the hustle and bustle of life! Just you & nature & your loved ones! Let our home be your sanctuary, protected from all the trials & tribulations of your hectic pace!
Again, thanks for your interest in our home and Welcome!

Home is located in the mountains just 7 miles from the parkway, 9 miles from Blowing Rock and 13 miles from Boone, in the Deer Crossing gated community just off of Sampson road. Home has great mountain views from back deck, upper balcony bedroom & from inside the living room.
(Note, some maps may show us as being near Deep Gap but we are NOT. We are on a state maintained road called Sampson between Boone and Blowing Rock).
Home is also 6.1 miles from Leatherwood for horseback riding or fly fishing! This resort offers many activities too!
There are many fun activities in the Blowing Rock Boone area. Search for a site that explains 67 things to do in the Boone Blowing Rock area.
Near the home there are loads of state stocked trout fishing sites, horse back riding at Leatherwood. Visit Linville Falls. Many of our visitors, go there to hike & take photos. Alternatively, there are many relaxing things to do at the home. Hike the community, bike the hills nearby, take a deep breath & commune with nature. This is THE place to totally unplug and get away from the hustle and bustle of life & reconnect with your family!
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: My husband is an avid cyclist and I love to ride my paint horse. We love our family and friends and love to entertain them and have fun! This is a vacation home, our main residence is in Pleasant Garden, NC. We were relocated to NC from Illinois, where we both grew up. I'm originally from Sandy Springs GA. We met over a pitcher of beer after a softball game and have been together now for over 24 years. My husband is so much fun to be with and we love it here in NC. My son and his wife live in Oregon, Wisconsin, a very long distance for a mom to endure! We love our visitors and will go to the nth degree to make your stay wonderful!
Why the Owner Chose Blowing Rock:
We chose this property because it accommodated both our interests! For my husband, the proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and all the cycling opportunities it offered, the cooler temps of the mountains and the ability to keep my horse at the property and sometimes trailer the 6.1 miles to Leatherwood for a day of riding. Plus we really love the mountain area. The photo shown here is of a day trip we took to Elk Knob. Elk Knob has a 1.9 mile hiking path to the heavens with heavenly views!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The biggest benefit of this home is that it is very quiet. It has wonderful mountain views, is spacious enough for the whole family so that everyone can do what they please without impacting the others. Proximity to Leatherwood is a real plus! 10$ and a coggins gets you a full day of trail riding! Another sensational feature of the home is the gated wrap around deck. There are 4 swings that allow you to take in the views, the breezes and the pond with waterfall. A favorite is the upstairs bedrooms with private decking. Sit and read or gaze out at the long range views from the back bedroom, or listen to the waterfall below from the front bedroom. The main floor master has access to the deck and has an ensuite bathroom. The basement bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, yet is private. Home includes washer and dryer. The views can be shared from the living room with a french door leading to the deck. With all the windows open, there is rarely a day you need to turn on the AC, but it is at the ready. The home has a wonderful wood stove in the basement and a wall heater, plus an extra refrigerator for those times you have guests for meals. The fenced in paddock will accommodate a horse or your favorite pooch! Also, featuring photography and music by VividPeace.com (Margaret Denny and Jim Pearson) See their site for photos.
