Amazing View...

Guest: Claire (Vancouver, BC)
Date of Stay: 03/05/12 Review Submitted: 03/24/12

Firstly I have to say that the view from the cabin is utterly amazing! Like nothing I've seen before. The cabin was well stocked with everything you might need, from blankets & towels to pots/pans and condiments. Hana herself was wonderful to deal with...helpful, friendly and very accomodating. This is why I'm sad to write that I was disappointed with our stay here. We read all the reviews thought we were prepared for the road noise...we were not! While it was easier to ignore during the day while at the beach, it was impossible to ignore during the night. I was awake every morning @ 5:00am to the cars and trucks barrelling by (and we had all the windows closed). Obviously Oahu has gotten busier since some of the reviews that said it was quiet at night, it's not. It was unfortunate that the blinds in the bedroom would not roll up as I would have like to have watched the sunrise from bed since I was up. I also feel that the cabin needs a lot of TLC, lots of the dishes are cracked & broken and the shelves and cupboards are quite grimy. I understand that bugs and pests come with a tropical climate, but I didn't anticipate finding rats, cockroaches and MANY ants. I also didn't anticipate the ants following me home! I had left my empty suitcase in the laundry area to make more room in the bedroom and didn't notice until we were unpacking that they were everywhere! We are still finding them a week later. :o( While the property itself is really lovely, I have to say that for the price we paid I think this cabin is a lot more 'rustic' than I realized it would be.

Owner response:All our reviews are so favorable.. this review did not fairly assess PARADISE! We did as we always do, and that's our best, providing an enchanting beach Paradise! Just today I checked and the kitchen was clean and neat as always (the few broken dishes (I have a second plastic set) are my grandparent's that I can't part with) The location across from a gorgeous 4,000 acre ranch creates some issues, but not major; this is ant season. Traffic is explained on the website and in person. Guests in person and in reviews seem to agree that the cottage virtues far outweigh this inconvenience.

Celebrating 11-11-11 in Paradise

Guest: Elle (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 11/08/11 Review Submitted: 11/19/11

Beautiful beach cottage steps from the ocean. Very clean. Better than the photos show. Hana is an attentive owner and goes the extra step to assist her guests in planning a great vacation. Great kayaking and hiking trip to and around Chinaman's Hat. Location is ideal for those desiring the non-city life vacation but is close enough to drive to most everything. A quiet and private home except for the hwy 83 road noise (the road is VERY close to the house), which only becomes an issue if one is to sleep in living room and have the windows open for air ventilation, but something that earplugs easily addresses. The road noise didn't even register on my radar at any other time. Mornings are spectacular, so plan on being up before the sun rises. There are plenty of great North Shore finds such as the Macadamia Nut Farm, Kuuloa Ranch across the street, Haleiwa (shaved ice, farmer's markets and road-side stands for finding delicious, fresh, inexpensive food), and a rain forest hike within 2 miles. Snorkeling in the waters just off home weren't the best for us (maybe the time of year), but other locations are available. Our best hike was a three hour excursion into the mountains that just sit behind Waikiki. Take H1 E. Right at Pu'u'ikena Drive @ Kawaiku'i Beach Park. Head up hill to guard. They will direct you in or to a separate entrance for non-hawaiian residents. Don't miss this one if you're into hiking - spectacular views of the entire island! I would definitely return to "Paradise" again and again - it's just a wonderful experience. The upsides completely outnumber the few downsides: road noise, poor kitchen lighting at night if you plan to cook, and no internet service (which could have really come in handy to search for Island activities). Thank you Hana for sharing your slice of paradise! A memory I'll never forget. Elle

PERFECT VACATION SPOT!!!! WILL VISIT AGAIN!!!!

Guest: Char (Clarksville, TN)
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/08/11

The description is accurate; the photos do not do this property justice; the property was clean, homey, and had everything we needed; the owner answered all of our questions and concerns and was pleasent to deal with; I would most definitely encourage anyone to visit the Paradise cabin. We rented this cabin for one week and were not disappointed. I just LOVE the door that opens up to the ocean. This was my first time in Hawaii, and I am so happy to have chosen this rather than a busy and crowded condo. We invited friends over and BBQ'd on the grills that were provided to us on the property. The yard was well kept and all lawn furniture was clean and comfy. We very much enjoyed waking up to the beautiful sunrise and drinking our coffee out on the porch. I cannot even use words to describe how content I felt during our stay. Even when my purse was stolen and we didn't leave the key in the lock-box as recommended, the owner still went out of her way to get us a new key. We were both Active Duty Military on R&R from Afghanistan and she even gave us a discount. On the last night we were there, James proposed to me, so we will never forget our Paradise cabin! THANK YOU for everything!!!! Char and James, 24 Sept - 30 Sept 2011 Clarksville, TN (Kandahar, Afghanistan)

Nice

Guest: Jessica L. (Tacoma WA)
Date of Stay: 05/14/11 Review Submitted: 05/19/11

We were very excited about this house from pictures. I will say this: POSITIVES: the house has a nice view, fully stocked with spices,pots/pan,dishes/cups,has a charcoal and gas bbq, tiki torches, hammock tied between to palm trees, nice landscaped yard, no neighbors on either side. The whole front side of the house opens up which gives you a nice breeze throughout the house. Has tv,ipod docking station and a telephone. NEGATIVES: the road noise was very distracting to us. The main H1 Highway is within a few feet of the back of the house--we heard road noise, tour bus's and speeding cars from about 9 am to 9 at night. For me, this was a dissapointment--it was hard for me to relax and forget about the usual hustle and bustle when there were cars roaring by. Also, the bed was a little firm for both of us- not too bad but def not what we would call " comfortable". There is a public beach access point to the left of the house- we had fishermen setting up their supplies on the rock wall to our rental and kids swimming in the reef right in front of the house. We really enjoyed lighting tiki torches, bbqing, laying on the hammock, taking the kayaks out on the ocean bay--watching sunrise & the bright moons twinking off the water. Although we were not happy with the road noise, we had a blast here. There is also boogy boards there, however there really isnt any waves at this calm part of the ocean bay.

Owner response:As there is only one road around Oahu at this point, it must be noted that the road is there as I say on my website. Otherwise, PARADISE IS PERFECT. Guests who have noticed, quickly forget in light of the rest of Paradise's perfection!

Lovely place with amazing view

Guest: Teresa (Snohomish, WA)
Date of Stay: 04/04/11 Review Submitted: 04/12/11

This was a fun little place to spend the second half of our vacation! Nicely outfitted with flat screen tv and even an ipod player, but we enjoyed the yard and the lanai most - the hammock was heavenly! Cute little place, immaculately clean. The roosters in the morning ensure that you wil not sleep too late and miss any part of the lovely day! We enjoyed the kayaks and the beach, the privacy and the central location for our many adventures on the island. Had a great dinner with good music at the Crouching Lion - nice view from this restaurant, too! Our one caveat was the road noise - we found it quite distracting and actually alarming, as the speed limit is posted as 35 mph, but I don't believe anyone was actually doing the speed limit - I certainly wouldn't allow a child to cross the street without an adult holding on to them. Cars were pretty much roaring by for several hours in the morning and again in the evening. Too bad, because this is a well-maintained little cottage, romantic and with a great view and amenities if you can overlook the road proximity!

Owner response:I appreciate the great review of the cottage. Happily the road noise comes and goes and the greatest majority of guests loose themselves so completely in the beauty of PARADISE and the surrounding area that they barely take any notice of traffic.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon for 11 days (Feb 13 - 24, 2011) and it was so wonderful. The pics online only show a little of the amazing wonders that this property has to offer. Every morning we would wake up the the beautiful sunrise and drink our coffee on the front porch. There were a couple of kayaks that we used to paddle out to Chinaman's hat, only 30 mins away. We were so thankful to be able to stay here and enjoy this place for our honeymoon. I would definately recommend it to any couple!

A week in Paradise!

Guest: Married 10 years (Wickenburg, AZ)
Date of Stay: 12/17/10 Review Submitted: 02/16/11

We spent a week at the cottage to celebrate our 10th anniversary with our 2 small children. Hana was very helpful and informative in planning our trip. The cottage is beautiful and incredibly well stocked- from toiletries to beach towels to kitchen supplies. It is more spacious than we expected and comes with all kinds of fun things to keep you entertained if the weather outside doesn't cooperate (we had a couple days of bad storms)- from games to books and cable tv- we were able to relax inside while it was pouring outside. But, the rest of the week, we were outside- we particularly enjoyed using the 2 kayaks- our favorite adventure was kayaking with our girls out to China Man's Hat and then climbing to the top. The location is fabulous- beautiful beach with incredible mountains behind- close proximity to many attractions. We enjoyed the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center, touring North Shore, Waimea Bay, etc. But, there was nothing as enjoyable as just sitting in front of the cottage watching the sea turtles each morning. The only "negative" about the cottage is that a busy road runs directly behind it, so there is road noise- particularly from about 6-10pm as people are going to and from the Polynesian Cultural Center- it doesn't detract from how wonderful this location is, but we were surprised by it since no one mentioned it in their reviews. We would HIGHLY recommend this location. It is the first place that we have visited that we honestly miss now that we are home and would like to return. Thank you for a wonderful week.

Owner response:As always we are so pleased that people had the time of their lives at the PARADISE COTTAGE. We try very hard to make the cottage have all the comforts and even more! I think it is a tribute to the location and cottage itself that although people might notice evening road noise, it is so unimportant in this atmosphere of beauty and delight that no one bothers to comment on it. Come and see us, you will always congratulate yourselves for the best vacation decision of your lives...

We had a thoroughly enjoyable month long stay here. The house was as it was portrayed to be. The house was very clean and very well stocked and equipped. The owner always responded quickly to any questions. The coral gardens directly in front of the house were fabulous. Even saw a sea turtle. I would highly recommend this property.

Thanks so much for sharing your piece of Paradise with the rest of us! We found your beautiful cottage a great place to unwind for 3 nights before joining our cruise. We spent our days snorkeling, walking on the beach, and listening to the local Hawaiian radio station. We took some really good pictures of your cottage that I've posted to my flickr page (simply search under people for Tina's Flickr page). You'll see that we saw some beautiful fish just steps away from your cottage. Thanks for the tip about the grocery store and Haleiwa Joe's in Kaneohe. We had everything we needed. Thanks again! We are still married so that must be a sign. :-) We spent a week here in November 2008 and the property was great. The view is spectacular and location is awesome. We went 4 wheeling in the state park across the street. We were a short car ride from the Pipeline surf contest. We at the Shrimp Trucks. This place made us feel we were on another planet yet living like a local! I am writing this review now as we are planning on coming back later in the year and would love to stay here again. See you soon. Mike & Stacey

We just returned from vacation and are already 'homesick' for this absolutely lovely cottage. Teenage girls are fussy, but both my 14 and 17 year old daughters were in heaven. Hana has created a tropical haven in a gorgeous location, and she supplies everything you could possibly need. We would have done more sightseeing had we not been so reluctant to leave this unbelievably beautiful property. After 8 days here, we took another 6 days on the Big Island and Maui, but my daughters were never as happy as they were here. My husband saw four sea turtles while snorkeling, my daughters visited with the horses hanging their heads over the fence at Kualoa Ranch across the street, and on the morning of our last day a spectacular rainbow stretched across the mountains behind the house. We have hundreds of stunning photos capturing views from the house at dawn, midday, and sunset, and many happy memories. The sight of the full moon shimmering on the water and the twinkling lights of Kaneohe Bay in the distance will stay with me forever. Hana, thank you for your hospitality and this extraordinary cottage.

We loved our week long stay at this wonderful beach house. The views all around were spectacular and the location was perfect for venturing out to the North Shore, Honolulu or just anyplace at all on the island. We rented kayaks to use at the house and had a blast each day paddling to Chinaman's Hat, out to the surf and along the coast. We enjoyed each morning walking the beach to see what the tide brought in and my collection of sea glass & shells are my most treasured souvenirs of our entire trip! We miss Hawaii (it's so beautiful with a laid back feel) and this beach house is true paradise! We hope to return. Thank You Marillyn

Our only feedback would be to close the doors before dusk. We learned the hard way that the mosquitos can be tough. Thank you Hana for a great experience.

Dear Hana, Where do I begin? Your place is great. The location is great. The weather was great. Your beach cottage was truly "Paradise" in Paradise. The sunrises every morning were truly spectacular and I never missed one of them. Thank you for all the "extras" too like the snorkeling equipment, beach and lounge chairs, towels, soaps and so many more amenities that are usually not provided when renting a vacation home. Actually, the cottage alone was more than enough. My family and friends are in awe of my pictures taken from your cottage. I look forward to coming back to "Paradise" and hopefully it will be in the very near future. Thank you for everything Hana. It was truly a fantastic vacation. Mahalo Rich Y. Conshohocken, PA

Paradise was truly heavenly. The cottage is beautiful, full of light and directly on the beach. Every morning we were treated to astonishing sunrises and even a few rainbows. Every evening sea turtles swam right in front of the cottage. The breezes blowing through the windows are amazing. This is a great home base for exploring Oahu. The cottage was just right for us and our three children. We hated to leave and talk constantly about when we will return. Mahalo Hana!!!

We arrived in Paradise in early December and were immediately enthralled by everything around us. The house is nicely set up, there are 5 big glass doors that slide to allow that whole wall to open to the ocean. The beach is right there, less than 20' away and talk about restful sleep. This vacation was so relaxing; we both hated leaving to see other sights, and once we got back to Paradise we felt so much at home. This is a wonderful location. We have dozens of photos of the house, beach, Chinaman's hat, sunrise, moonrise. You can't go wrong with a vacation in Paradise. Mahalo, Marilyn. Ahui ho!!

We had such a wonderful relaxing time at this cottage. The gorgeous sunrises were only the beginning of our days. With coffee on the deck watching the turtles watch us and walking the beaches, talking to locals that were fishing and comparing the day's destination with other lucky renters, we were able to use Marillyn's Paradise for our home base for exploring this beautiful island. This is the absolute best way to see Oahu. We did stay in Honolulu for one night before coming out to the beach house because we arrived very late at night. One night in the city was enough for both of us. We much preferred the laid back quality on the north shore. And Marillyn makes it so easy to just step in the house and make it home by providing all those necessary small touches. This is truly the way to see Oahu.

Wow...wow...wow. The last part of our honeymoon vacation was in Oahu and we were fortunate enough to get this amazing cottage reserved for our stay on the island. When we arrived, our jaws literally dropped in awe as we enjoyed the breathtaking views of Molikini Island off in the distance. We woke up every morning to enjoy the a beautiful sunrise. The ocean right in the front of the cottage provided us with a very convenient locale for snorkeling and swimming. Several beautiful fishes can be seen right in front of the cottage swimming around the reefs. Our stay without question was very peaceful and relaxing. If you want to stay away from the bustling city life, and high rise hotels, this is the place to be for a romantic getaway all within the confines of a beautiful cottage in paradise...Thank you for a wonderful time!!!! We would love to return again in the near future. Bless You! Quoc and Lanchi Nguyen

This was our first time to Hawaii, and we feel we made an excellent decision about where to stay. What a beautiful place. If we had it to do all over again we'd come back here to stay. On the ocean, mountains behind you, a short drive to the PCC and North Shore. Or leave early in the morning and make it to Pearl Harbor or the Flea Market in less than 30 minutes. Beautiful sunrises, the sound of the ocean, cool tradewinds, and the colors of green in the sunshine. This was the perfect place to stay, in the perfect to be. Mahalo Nui Hana, Rob

WOW! What a wonderful property! As others have said, the pictures do not do justice to the wonderful cottage and the unbelievable setting. The cottage was well equipped with everything one needs for a comfortable stay. Pick up a few groceries on your way to the cottage and you may find no reason to leave it.I especially enjoyed watching the sunrise over the ocean – it was almost surreal to be that close to the ocean as the sun peeked over the horizon. We highly recommend this property and look forward to our own future return visit.

I could not imagine a more perfect place than PARADISE to spend our anniversary. It was absolutely perfect. The pictures on this site don’t do this wonderful cottage justice. With a semi private beach in front, and no neighbors to the north, PARADISE was the best place to lie on the beach and drop out of life for a while. We were able to snorkel from the beach a long way out with the water never getting deeper then 5 feet. There were many little coral reefs all around to explore. We were fortunate to see a few sea turtles hiding in the coral. The bi-fold doors made the ocean feel like it was another room of the house. The inside of PARADISE is just as wonderful and charming as it’s surroundings. It has granite counter tops, modern appliances, and its interior decorations (fresh flowers and lais!) made my wife and I feel as if PARADISE was our own. It was hard to believe that anyone had been there before. If you are even thinking of going to PARADISE, request more pictures, you won’t be disappointed. We will definitely be back (with the kids next time :-) and I highly recommend PARADISE to anyone who wants to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing vacation away from the crowded beaches.

We were not fortunate with the weather during our week there. The islands have been hit with weeks of unrelenting rainfall. But what a wonderful place to be unlucky! Even in the rain, the ocean is beautiful, and the living room is totally focused on it whether the glass door/wall is open or closed. And the view of the sky, Chinaman's Hat & Kaneohe Bay in the distance are great, whatever the weather. Several sunrises were spectacular. Lightening and occasional rainbows were dramatic. The heavier the rain, the bigger the waterfalls that would appear coming down the magnificent mountains behind the house. One day they turned the meadow across the street into a pond full of white egrets. Most days it was full of handsome cows. Even with properties and yards all over the island flooding, this cozy place stayed high and dry. It was really a lovely week, even though it wasn't quite what we were hoping for.

Thanks, Marillyn, for the most wonderful New Year's Eve ever - your beach house is so tasteful, well-equipped and perfectly located, that I can't think of a thing we missed!! (except that fish we let get away!) Seeing the turtles just off the beach was superb. We are telling all our friends, so you may get some more Aussie visitors. Aloha no, Betty & Peter Gossell

This was everyting and more and we could have asked for. It was exactly as we saw in the pictures. It was extremely clean and well furnished with lots of extras. The doors were such as added extra. The view was awesome. We had originally planned to several things but the house was so nice and we could snorkle right there, we spent most of our time at the house. We had the beach all to ourselves. I highly reocmmend this place. Please feel free to E-mail us with any questions regarding staying her. Mike and Martha.

It's a long way to Hawaii from England, but if you're looking for somewhere really special, then look no further! All the comments say that the pictures don't do this property justice and I have to agree. What a fantastic location, so close to the sea. Waking up to a beautiful sunrise it was hard to believe it was real. Thanks, Marillyn for letting us stay in your cottage:it was a really great holiday.

Marillyn, Thank you for an unbelievable vacation! Your cottage was simply amazing...from the breathtaking view of the ocean to the great mountains across the street. The pictures on the site do it no justice! My only regret is that we did not plan our entire trip to stay in your house. The noise from the street was easy to block out and was overtaken by the sounds of the ocean. The folding doors are such a unique touch...they stayed open from 6am until 11pm when we went to bed. Thanks for providing all the little "extras" and for setting up the two twin beds in the bedroom for us - it was a perfect location for our trip. You have been greatly blessed, and thanks for sharing with the rest of us! We each hope to return sometime in the future! I recommend this to everyone...wait...I shouldn't recommend it because it's gonna get too difficult for the rest of us to make reservations for your house. The drive over to Honolulu/Waikiki is not long at all, and it's a beautiful drive. Very convenient to all beaches in Oahu...not too far over to North Shore, and a beautiful drive down to Hanauma Bay. Stay here if you can - you won't regret it! Mahalo! Gregg and Drew

This was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. The folding doors offered the best view you could imagine (like noted by other guests, we slept in the living room). I snorkeled for the first time (we're not originally from Hawaii), and got to see many colorful fish & coral. A home away from home--we hope to visit again.

We leave your beautiful, comfortable and soul-refreshing spot of paradise today with many wonderfulmenories; the beautiful sunrises, ocean as far as the eye can see(and just steps away), the scenic windward coast and Chinaman's Hat, warm water for swimming asnd bathing outside and such comfoirtable and charming accommodations. Even we who call Hawaii home don't often experience what people who come in droves here do, and your place allows this for us. It truly captures what we all wish Hawaii could be like for everyone and brings to mind what our kupuna must have experienced daily. We will definitely come again. Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo Aloha, a hui hou Uluwehi

What a place! We really had a nice time. The view is so awesome. You couldn't get any closer to the water anywhere else and so private. I will tell anyone coming to Oahu to go to your spectacular place; they will not be disappointed.

I stayed 3 nights and had a most enjoyable stay -being woken by the rising sun thru the eastern windows, snorkelling amongst the turtles and fish, sleeping in the shade of the coconut palms, relaxing on the deck and browsing thru the eclectic collection of Hawaiian books. I especially enjoyed the door feature which allows the eastern wall to open up so that you feel as tho you are living outside. This is an excellent value for the cost per night and I highly recommend it. Peter Axhorn
