Well... what can I say... this place is absolutely spectacular. The property is in amazing shape; pool, grass, studio, dishes... everything! I have stayed in homes, villas, studios everywhere and quite a few in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Your studio stands out as the best, it lacks nothing. The landscaping is beautiful and keeps the property very private, the pool is crystal clear and at a perfect temperature. My girlfriend and I had one of the best getaways we ever had. THANKS!!!

Villa Malibu, Suites on the Beach, in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste was our choice for a special anniversary. Having been to Costa Rica before, we wanted to rent somewhere as close to the Pacific as we could get. This rental unit filled the bill. Walking down the stairs across a lovely lawn, past the palapa with enough stools for four, through the gate, across the sand, we were IN the ocean. The water there is the warmest I've ever been in and the gradual slope let us swim and walk as far as we wished. There is also an almost infinity pool beside the palapa that's big enough to swim in. The Sol suite, though it's the smaller of the two, was certainly big enough for the two of us, containing the sleeping area, a table and chairs, full kitchen and bath. Janet lives in the lower level and she and her friend, Luis, were always available to help if we needed it. She lent my husband Bob a bicycle from the unit to ride around in the villages and those close to it. The little grocery in Potrero was handy for quick pick-up items because you can walk or bike there. Our favorite full size store was SuperMassai in Playa Flamingo. The restaurants we liked were Nabinni in Tamarindo, Lola's (though only available for lunch) and if you want something more touristy, Hacienda del Sol was just a short walk north on the beach. The owner, Laura, was always available to answer questions we had prior to our visit and if she didn't know an answer, she'd check with the Special Places of Guanacaste staff in Playa Flamingo. You'll have the cell phone number of one person from that staff; we worked with Yeudy, who was terrific. The only negatives we had were the lack of cell service, the heat (something no one can change) and the lack of multiple airlines flying into Liberia, and the unpaved roads around Potrero. That said, rent a four wheel drive if you have that option. And enjoy.

I spent three weeks in Costa Rica, this was my first stop and I found it ideal for getting used to the climate and culture. I signed up for a week and ended up adding on time at this property. Incredibly relaxing, right on the beach, the pool is fantastic. Had some shade to it, so it was very nice being in the pool and looking out over the bay during the heat of the afternoon. Lots of wildlife everywhere, it’s a delight to sit around and see what cruises by. Janet is very nice and keeps the property in great condition, and her cat is a crack-up. The unit is comfortable and everything has a brand-new feel to it. The a/c is good, great little neighborhood, and a fresh produce mart is not far down the road. Well-stocked kitchen, the manual juicers were a thoughtful touch. Very home-y too, and great just lying in bed enjoying the view. Sunsets were world-class. As a solo traveler I spent a lot of time driving around, picking up local hitch-hikers and subjecting them to my version of Spanish, and after thoroughly seeing the area, I knew that I had a really good thing going at Villa Malibu. Got lots of ooh's and ahh's from fellow passengers on my zipline tour bus when they dropped me off and the electric gate slid open to reveal the beautiful grounds and pool/cabana area. Highly recommended for your time in Guanacaste, well-located. Near some tourist-y areas, but far enough away where you feel you’re part of the local commiunity.

Carol and I enjoyed our 15 night stay at the villa Malibu Sol suite very much. Being able to sit in the pool while reading, relaxing, watching the sunset was a real treat. We enjoyed the walks on the beach. The barbecue got used almost daily. We recommend it highly.

Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

Perfect place to discover Costa Rica

Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to stay at the Luna suite at Villa Malibu. We thought the accommodations were fantastic. Our first impression was how secure we felt with the gate at the entrance to the driveway. The grounds were taken care of very nicely. Not a thing was out of place. The pool was nice as it was actually a swimming pool. A lot of others we saw were more like pools to wade in or sit in but you could actually swim laps in yours, even if they were short ones. The pool furniture was nice too. The cushions on the lounge chairs made them very comfy. And the shower and bathroom by the pool made lounging outside so much easier. Even if someone thought the pool was to small there is a little thing called the Pacific Ocean just on the outside of the fence to swim in as well. The location was great. Once we stepped into the studio we were impressed as well. Once again, spotless. The housekeeping and ground staff do a great job. They were always available if we needed anything. The kitchen is well appointed with all the normal stuff for cooking. My wife found everything she needed to make the meals we did in the suite. Plenty of room for two people to sit, eat, and chill out. We spent one week in a larger house earlier and realized that all we really needed was a studio like yours to be happy and still enjoy our trip. Just the right amount of space. The free Wi-Fi was a great bonus as well. I appreciated the books you have on hand if we needed one. I contributed a book to your collection for someone else to enjoy. I can only read a book once. We enjoyed your Villa very much.

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at Villa Malibu in January. The infinity lap pool is beautiful to gaze upon, superb for your daily laps, or a cool refresher from the heat. In the Luna Suite, the King bed was comfy, the bathroom spacious and nicely tiled. We appreciated the well-appointed kitchen, with ample trays and non-glass items to transport our daily breakfast outside to the palapa bar. We ate the best papaya ever, purchased at the local market. The privacy of the unit is a bonus, though if both units are occupied, the shady spots by the pool may get taken. Since we did not rent a car, we walked to nearby restaurants and markets for provisions, lunches and dinners. The concierge staff (especially Aylen Ruiz) at Special Places of Guanacaste is ready to graciously help you book local excursions and tours, with transportation to/from the Villa. We would return to Villa Malibu and recommend it as a beautiful, well-maintained beach home. And oh, that gorgeous pool! Gracias!

Relaxing and Beautiful

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Villa Malibu! It was relaxing and quiet and the grounds are as beautiful as on the website. We spent most of our time going between the pool and the beach in front of the property and some time exploring other local beaches. We went into Tamarindo one day and were so glad we didn’t stay there because it was so crowded. The suite was equipped with everything we could possibly need for our stay and the bed was extremely comfortable. The caretaker and her family do a fantastic job of maintaining the grounds and the office staff were great at helping us line up a couple of excursions. As much as it was nice to have the place to ourselves for the first 4-5 days, the couple who moved into the Luna suite were a lot of fun to spend time with and we even went for dinner with them a couple of times. I would absolutely recommend the Sol Suite to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday. It is off the beaten path but there are restaurants and stores close by so you have everything you could possibly need.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A great time at Villa Malibu

This property is in great shape. It has all the amenities needed to have a great time. There are restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. Laura and her team made the arrival seamless. Walking from the garden right into the beach was awesome. Playa Potrero is a nice beach to swim and walk. The swimming pool provides a great place to relax with a magnificent ocean view, and the perfect place to watch the sunset. I wish I could stay longer. We will definitely go back. I highly recommend Villa Malibu

This is a wonderful property on a beautiful beach on the Pacific in Costa Rica. The lodging is clean and comfortable with lots of amenities. We prepared our breakfast and ate it pool side every day. We swam in the ocean, sandy bottom, and lounged at the pool and pool side. When we had a problem with the plumbing, the property manager responded immediately. The onsite caretaker cleaned every day and freshened out linens as needed. This location provided the rest we were looking for.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

First of all let me thank you and congratulate you for the amazing property you have over at Potrero, the property's even better looking than in photographs (which were absolutely amazing). The property is obviously well taken care of, everything's clean, well maintained and just perfect. The caretaker was extremely nice to us, cleaned the suite everyday and left everything spotless. We had an amazing time, this truly is one of the best properties I've ever been to in this country and will certainly be going back as soon as possible. I have recommended the property here at work (Guanacaste is highly visited area amongst Costa Ricans as you may know) as well as to my friends and family. Once again, congratulations on your property and thank you very much for a wonderful weekend.

Villa Malibu was perfect!!!! The pool was so nice, the view from the room was stunning. My husband and I loved the location because we did not want the hassle of renting a car which was no problem as we were close to several restaurants and markets and took walks to other beaches around the rocky points at low tide. The condo was immaculate and had all the supplies we needed for making meals and cocktails. The air conditioned room was a luxury in the afternoon when we wanted to take a break from the sun for a little while. We had plenty of clean towels included big, fluffy beach towels....which is not always the case with some rentals. The groundskeeper and her family were so nice and so respectful of our alone time at the pool, etc. Swimming in the ocean in front of the condo was very good....water was calm on most days and the beach was clean and often secluded. The management company was very nice upon our arrival. My family had contacted them from home to give me a message upon check-in that my father was very ill. They made me feel much better and calmer with expressions of concern and offer to use the phone in the office to call home when needed. My husband and I hope we are lucky enough to stay at Villa Malibu again. It was a very relaxing and romantic destination.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Your place is perfect for a romantic beachfront getaway. We loved it and enjoyed the hammocks and the infinity pool right on the beach. We will definitely be back and will bring some friends. This is a perfect hideaway on the beach. Love the privacy of only one other suite and the caretaker was wonderful. It is nice having someone on the property at all times. Thanks again.

This was our very first visit to costa rica and also using vrbo and much to my surprise, the experience could not have been better. The owner, the housekeeper and the property management company excellent. The suites were clean, the beds comfy, the property and pool well maintained. Our days were blissful starting with waking up to the sounds of birds and the ocean, having our first cup of coffee while watching the pelicans, walking the large beautiful beach with hardly a soul on but local fisherman in the ocean, enjoying the lap pool with the local iguana and birds who stopped by for a drink. In the evenings the sunset, the breeze and then all those stars were remarkable. The neighboring dogs and wandering cows made it fun too. Our days were busy as there are many beaches to see with our favorites being playa la penca, playa flamingo, and playa conchal. One of the thrills is riding the local buses. You can easily get to Tamarindo-very touristy, and Brasilito which we really enjoyed. Loved seeing the locals riding their horses. One tip, if you do not get a direct bus to your location, Huacas is a connecting point. We even took a day trip to Liberia with the bus trip being almost the highlight. We surfed with Point Break Surf, Matt and Natasha, they were amazing, and we surfed playa grande. We rented a scooter and toured the area on our own including going to Santa Cruz. We went to get gelato at Flor di Pacifico in Potrero. We shopped at Super Wendy around the corner and found it to be fairly good. Grocery stores are very different here. During our visit, on Thursday afternoons a truck would come by the suites to sell melons and oranges, which tasted fabulous. Or you could catch them throughout town. Mangos are fabulous here. Because we were vacationing for nearly three weeks, we had the fortune of learning to hear the monkeys, and once you recognize them, you can find them. They are in the neighborhood. Seeing them naturally was way better than seeing them thru a tour. As you can tell, we would highly recommend Villa Malibu. It was beautiful, peaceful, restful and allowed us to be still, to truly enjoy the moment. But amazing how fast the time went. There were lots of restaurants as well but we loved our time at home in the Sol suite. We were able to acquaint ourselves with the Ticans. Pura Vida.

Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Wow! Just looking at the pictures makes me long to be back. My husband and I began our honeymoon stay in the Villa Malibu for 4 nights and everything about it was perfect! The layout of the studio is great and the king size bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean and well taking care of. Marta, the maid and grounds keeper, was very kind and helpful. Not to mention that the view is breathtaking and the sunsets were stunning! We were the only guests at the time and we stayed in the Luna Suit, which is the bigger of the two. We had the infinity pool to ourselves and used it everyday while marveling over the incredible beach and ocean right in front of us. At night the crabs and frogs would come out and it was fun to watch them. If you are not into walking a whole lot to get to restaurants or attractions then we would definitely recommend having a car or getting a taxi. We didn't have one, but we didn't mind walking around. We really enjoyed hiking around and exploring the beautiful surroundings. We did take a taxi a couple of times at night. It is not hard to get a taxi, they are not expensive, and the drivers are very nice. El Castillo is a good restaurant that is close to walk to. We also walked to Playa Flamingo a few times, which is a good trek. If you go to Playa Flamingo make sure to go to Mar y Sol! It was the best happy hour and dinner we had while in Costa Rica. It was outstanding and one we still dream about! The customer service with the Villa Malibu was stellar. We would hands down recommend this studio to family and friends. It is ideal for a romantic getaway. It was the perfect beginning to an unforgettable honeymoon!

We absolutely loved your place. It was such a nice retreat from the normal hotel stay. Your new swimming pool is incredible. No beach needed. We will be sending you some photos once we get home. Martha and Mike were awesome. The two of them do very well keeping the property clean, safe, and serviced. Even though we do not speak spanish it was fairly easy to communicate with them and they were just very nice people to have around. I would recomend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful place to relax. Can´t say enough about how incredible that pool area is, perfect. Thanks again
