Ukiah cottage description
Originally built in the 1950's as a vacation home for a family looking to escape the bustle of San Francisco, this charming house has recently been restored as a vacation rental in the heart of wine country in Mendocino County. Located halfway between Ukiah and Hopland, the cottage is nestled next to a vineyard along the Russian River and offers a magnificent view. There are two bedrooms, a complete bathroom, a compact kitchen, a comfortable living room and an adjoining dining area. The large deck overlooks a small vineyard and the riparian area of the Russian River. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck and observe the many birds that live along the river, take a day trip to the Redwoods, dip in the river during on a hot summer day, and visit some of the famous wineries down the road. A quiet alternative to Napa and Sonoma.

We were in town for a wedding and needed a place that was dog friendly (for well behaved pooches of course). We certainly enjoyed ourselves at this property.

Very nice and very comfortable.
Very nice and very comfortable.
I just completed a two night stay at this rental. The house is very comfortable and has everything anyone could ask for. Kitchen was well equipped as was the bathroom and bedrooms. There was nothing I needed to have a great stay. Nice walk along the river with deer, quail and turkey. Owners were very accommodating and made sure everything was taken care of. A great place and beautiful view.

This cozy cottage just outside of Ukiah, CA was a nice place for us to relax for a week and have our own space while visiting relatives. The view was wonderful from the deck as well as the living room with the mountains as a back drop and the vineyards at our feet. The deck was a wonderful place with multiple seating options and the bed in the back bedroom was very comfortable. There is a hot tub, but we didn't use it. However, there were a few disappointments, the first thing is that the interior of the house is a little dated with paneling on the walls and worn out furniture. The kitchen is so tiny that only one person can fit (we cooked almost all of our meals there) there is a grill, so that helped. I had to wash all of the dishes before we used them because they were dirty or covered in grease (hand wash, no dishwasher) There were light bulbs burned out, we read in the journal where another guest thanked the host for helping them when they locked themselves out of the bedroom and then we noticed that the door jamb had not been fixed. There was an old, dirty, cracked bar of soap in the soap dish in the bathroom. Because of the water system we were asked to conserve water (no problem, but made us a little nervous to use the water, (time of year) and told to drink water out of the bottle in the kitchen which was pretty much empty. By a river, does not mean on the bank or that you can even see it, and it was almost dry after the walk there, so again, depending on what time of year you go. There may or may not be wood to burn in the fire place, we didn't have any and for the chilly nights, would have been nice. The drive way is difficult getting in and out of. Over all, it was comfy and cozy and suited our needs and purposes, just a little bit extra care and attention to details would have been nice.

Owner response: This review was a surprise because most people have a delightful time. They are charmed by the authenticity of a 1950’s vacation home and comment on how clean and well kept the place is. The small kitchen creates closeness for a romantic weekend. We are in the middle of a serious drought in California so there’s not a lot of water in the river and we have to be mindful of our water use. It doesn’t rain here every day, like it does in south Florida. We always provide bottled water if people let us know they are low.
What a wonderful stay and I'm excited to plan our return. Bedrooms nice size and house was very clean. We loved sitting on the deck and watching the first fall storm come in over the hills.
