Location: Venasque, Provence, France, Europe (Venasque is 10 km from Carpentras, 24 km from Avignon)
Accommodations: Townhome, 5 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths (Sleeps 10-11)
Keywords: Village townhouse
Our home-actually two apts-is situated in a 16th century stone house at the center of Venasque (population 150), voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. On a quiet cul-de-sac, the house is private yet within walking distance of a boulangerie, a small grocery, and three fine restaurants. Both apartments have individual rooftop terraces overlooking a valley of vineyards with spectacular views of Mount Ventoux. The two adjoining apartments have separate entrances and are located around a small courtyard. They can, however, be linked and rented as a larger unit or shared by two families vacationing together.
Both apartments offer comfortable Provencal living year-round. Venasque, known for its cherry orchards, is a perched village surrounded by ancient, Saracen walls. Each morning, we go around the corner for our morning croissants and then follow one of 10 hiking trails from the village through glorious countryside.
The larger apartment (Bouche Trou) has a big kitchen/dining area, spacious living room, three bedrooms (two Queen, two single beds) and two baths. The second apartment (Kubikle) has a kitchen/dining area, two bedrooms (Queen, two singles), sitting room, one bath, courtyard dining.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1993
My husband, Padraic, an ardent cyclist first visited Venasque when he came to follow the Tour de France with his sons. Once we discovered this gem of a village, we came back often, finally buying our home in 1993. We love the around-the-corner boulangerie, the hiking trails, the markets, the morning light, and all things Provencal.
Why the Owner Chose Venasque
The most beautiful village in Provence. Private, quiet, an easy drive to the vineyards of the Rhone Valley, Avignon, and surrounding hilltowns. We love being in the village with access to a good croissant and three lovely restaurants.
The Unique Benefits of this Townhome
Dinner on our rooftop terrace overlooking Mt. Ventoux. Heaven.

I wanted you to know how thoroughly we enjoyed Bouche Trou and our two weeks there in June. The house felt like a real home, to be lived in, and to return to and settle back in. I loved the kitchen. I happened to have been supplied with some lovely onions and garlic, as well as all the sugar, salt and flour one could ask for. That’s how I left it. It’s so nice to have a sense that the cooking goes on and on. The cookbooks are great too. Your pots are good; your stove works very nicely. These are excellent things when one is in the land of beautiful vegetables…and yes, it was cherry season. We ate them everyday. I loved the walk you can take from the village. We had drinks on the roof terrace every evening and felt we needed to pinch ourselves as Mt. Ventoux changed colors with the sunset. …The boulangerie is fantastic.

We bless you for your recommendation of late April. We arrived on the 17th and the first morning took the circuit walk along the Rte d'Appie down to the D4 and up the front road. All the cherries in full white blossom, with that fleeting moment of pale green on the trees coming back into leaf after winter. Less than a week later the white blossoms were all gone and early summer had started. We arrived at just the right time. After three weeks in "if it's Thursday it must be Cordoba" Spain, we really enjoyed the small town experience of Venasque, where I asked Peggy the first night, "What can you hear?" and she replied, accurately, "Nothing." We did some of the obligatory tourist things: Avignon and Arles and Orange (I'm a classicist), but we also did St. Didier--sat next to, at dinner at the cafe-restaurant opposite the Mairie, a classic Hollywood break up between the ageing British scholar lady and her dark and handsome peasant lover of the winter, complete with tears and classic lines) and Le Beucet and La Roque sur Pernes and even St. Gens. Jerome and Martine were unfailingly charming and helpful. We enjoyed two meals at Les VB. Their more traditonal cooking has a real charm. But what can one say about meals where every greasy spoon harbors budding Escoffiers and every half-acre produces a diffferent and wonderful wine? Thank you again for making this beautiful experience possible for us.
