Fish Bay villa description
Elysium is located along the south shore of St John on the south facing side of the hilly peninsula that separates Fish Bay from Reef Bay. To get to Elysium you drive along the south shore and take the right fork off the dead end road that goes to Reef Bay. As the photos show, this is a very private and natural setting, with picturesque views overlooking Ditliff Point, Fish Bay, the Caribbean Sea and the hills of St John. The villa faces south-southwest and is blessed with gentle tropical breezes and all day sun.
Much of the Reef Bay/Fish Bay peninsula is part of the National Park, and an interesting 5–10 minute hike from Elysium and through the park and along the shore takes you to a small secluded white sand, national park beach where you are usually the only people on the beach, or anywhere in sight. If the surf is moderate, you can snorkel and swim in turquoise waters where it’s just you and the sea turtles and tropical fish, and then hike back to your luxury villa for some lunch and thirst quenchers. This tranquil location provides enough privacy for “tan all over” sunbathing and very peaceful and relaxing days, and a 10–15 minute drive will bring you to the bars, restaurants and always enjoyable nightlife of Cruz Bay.
Elysium is an attractive 2300+ sq/ft, 2+ level villa built into the side of a hill. You park on the upper level and enter into the great room, which houses the kitchen, dining, and living areas, plus a (3rd) full bath. Screened sliding glass doors from the living area open to a wrap around antique brick deck with colorful views of Fish Bay and beyond. Exterior brick stairs lead down to the lower level where there are two king bedrooms, two marble baths and another wrap around brick deck. The 20’ x 12’ pool is six steps below the bedrooms and is surrounded by a 400 sq. ft. coral stone (non skid) sun deck with deck furniture, a 4-person hot tub, and sun from morning to late in the afternoon. This is a great villa for sun lovers, but the covered decks on both levels also allow you to relax outside in the shade and gentle breezes and enjoy the serenity.
The bedrooms both have king beds, a/c, ceiling fans, and a tiled bath and marble shower. Both bedrooms open to decks and the slightly larger master bedroom enjoys a charming water view.
The living room and the two dining areas were recently refurnished, and the new furniture definitely enhances the richness and livability of the living/dining areas. The living room is equipped with a 32” flat screen TV/DVD plus a stereo/CD.
Elysium offers dining on the covered deck at a table for four, and interior dining at a mahogany table for four.
The handsome kitchen is just off the living room and it has marble floors and countertops and is fully equipped, including a stainless steel (s/s) 4-burner gas stove and oven, s/s refrigerator/freezer, s/s dishwasher, microwave, blender, toaster, coffeemaker, cookware, etc. There is also a washer/dryer.
Our guestbook indicates that Elysium is very popular with honeymooners and lovers, as well as two couples and small families. This is a very private and romantic location, so I'm not surprised that Elysium is a popular destination for couples seeking a bit of adventure mixed in with pure relaxation.

Relaxing vacation on St. John
Relaxing vacation on St. John
My husband and I stayed at Elysium for a week and had a nice, relaxing vacation. The kitchen was well-equipped and had everything we needed. The furnishings are tasteful and modern. We especially enjoyed the pool and hot tub in the evening. It was nice to have air conditioning in all rooms and not have noisy window units. The Fish Bay location is only about 15 minutes into Cruz Bay, but far enough away that is quiet and very private. We ate dinner in Cruz Bay most nights and especially enjoyed Asolare, ZoZo's, La Tapa, and a new restaurant, Virgin Fire. The villa is managed by Caribbean Villa who was extremely responsive to some concerns we had. The villa is listed as having access to a beach, but the neighbor's dogs closely guarded the path (although it wasn't on the neighbor's property) and prevented us from getting to the beach. We advised Caribbean Villa's management and they have taken steps to ensure beach access for future guests.

Why Fish Bay:
When we bought Elysium in 2009, St. John had just gone through a building spurt and many neighborhoods weren’t as private as they were only 5-10 years before the growth phase. We were looking for a traditional St. John location where there is plenty of privacy, one with no traffic noise, a place where tranquility and nature reign supreme. We wanted an out of the way, off the beaten path hideaway, but we didn’t want to be more than 10-15 minutes from the fun nights and great food in Cruz Bay. We also wanted this secluded hideaway to be new, modern, upscale, cozy and romantic, with all the luxury features we like, such as full a/c, marble floors and counters, a pool and hot tub, and handsome styling and design. To make our task really difficult, we also wanted to be on the edge of the national park and within walking distance of good snorkeling and swimming at a national park beach. This all seemed like an impossibly tall order, so we were floored when our broker told us that there was a villa for sale that met all our requirements, and then some. When we first viewed Elysium you could have knocked us over with a feather. You can imagine our surprise and good fortune in securing the house that was the fulfillment of what we were told was “an impossible dream”. Elysium met all the “you’re asking for too much” specifications that we were looking for. It’s got excellent privacy in a serene and tranquil, underdeveloped location, sun all day, full a/c, modern and handsome baths and kitchen, a clothing optional pool and hot tub, stylish furnishings, and amazingly, it’s a short walk from one of St. John’s most secret national park beaches. We love this villa, and looking at our reservation calendar, so do a lot of St. John travelers. We bet you will too.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
We have mentioned above the unique qualities of Elysium, but they're worth repeating. We like the concept of being in an undeveloped and natural tropical environment, yet we also like the comforts of a luxury home. We wanted it both ways, and fortunately, we got it. With it's abundant use of antique brick and marble, comfortable and attractive furnishings, and the four must have amenities (pool, hot tub, a/c throughout, walk to a NP beach), Elysium meets the definition of a luxury villa in a private and off the beaten path location, yet it's also convenient to town. It's a neat combination that meets our needs to a T. Like most St. John villa owners that we've met, we bought this house because we love St. John and wanted to own a part of it; but we also love this particular house, on this magic island.
