Our peaceful home overlooks one of the more serene and dramatic landscapes in the Aspen area. In this tranquil hideaway, the glass curtain wall brings the outside indoors to offer an ever changing landscape and wildlife.
While inside, rich calming colours and textures echo the hues of the natural surroundings. With its proximity to the lake, guests are treated to up-close sightings of the incredible number of animals and birds that wander through the alpine meadows.
Red Table Mountain rises dramatically above the wildflowers and Aspen groves while the lake, Ruedi Resevoir, lies below.
It is situated 34 miles from Aspen, 15 miles up the Gold Medal Fishing of the Frying Pan River from downtown Basalt, Colorado.
Our lodge offers a uniquely American Western experience drawing from contemporary safari living in a completely glass-walled Great Room with beautiful 'eagle's nest' views from all aspects.
It is: 4 bedrooms, 5 baths 3450 sq ft. contemporary glass house sitting at 8200 feet above sea level & designed to take in a 360 degree view of 11,000 ft. White River National Forest mountains and 13 mile long Ruedi lake.
The first floor has a mud room, and four bedrooms including en suite full bathrooms. Master bedroom has king size bed, two other bedrooms have a queen size bed and a double bed.
Three bedrooms open out onto the downstairs deck.
It sleeps 8 people comfortably. The second floor is a great room and kitchen and has 18 ft. high full glass, floor to ceiling windows, as well as two 12 ft. rollup glass doors that open to an 8 X 54 ft. deck with BBQ grill and furniture.
The deck sits 18 ft. above ground level with a spectacular open view of the mountains and lake down below.
The great room is 1759 sq. ft., and includes Mies van der Rohe designed furniture, Louis XVI antiques, a walnut live edge dining table, zebra rugs, fur throws and a see through fire place in the middle of the room, bathroom, walk-in pantry, as well as a dining room table that seats 8 people.
The house includes wireless high-speed internet on request for 10 per day. The open kitchen features large counter tops, 2 dishwashers, 2 wine coolers, 2 sink areas, double oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, Nespresso machine, refrig,and freezer.
The back 16 ft by 44 ft. glass wall overlooks owner's 3 acres of seeded wildflowers and the surrounding White River National Forest mountain peaks.
Area wildlife includes: mule deer, fox, mountain grouse, chipmunks, blue birds, humming birds, elk, coyote, bighorn sheep, bald eagle, osprey, and peregrine falcon.
Spring brings an abundance of wildflowers. A garden with 'in season' fresh vegetables each summer is available for guests. Hiking trails are a few steps away.
A few minutes away are scenic drives along the Ruedi high country lake and Frying Pan river. There is excellent trout fishing on the lake and the upper and lower Gold Medal rated Frying Pan River and on back country lakes. Various lake and streams are either accessible by car or by hiking and riding trails. See the forest map for complete information. Auto excursions can take you up-valley to historic old railroad towns, lime kilns, RR tunnels, Hagerman Pass, back country outfitter for horse back rides, camp grounds and recreation areas. And of course there are miles of trout fishing waters. 25 to 45 minutes away is the historic town of Basal, El Jebel, Carbondale, as well as Aspen and Snowmass, for more recreation, entertainment, arts, shopping and amazing restaurants.

Our peaceful home sets at the base of Red Table Mountain, some 8000 feet (2500 meters) above sea level, high above Ruedi Resevoir and the town of Basalt, Colorado.
The two-storey, 4 bedroom home features four en-suite bedrooms [all with private baths] and sits in a quiet 34 home area on large lots isolated and surrounded by millions of acres of high mountain natonal forest near many streams and lakes.
With its floor-to-ceiling windows in all rooms, our home embraces the spirit of the West.
The Great Room with its soaring ceiling affords an unobstructed open views across to Red Table Mountain and below to lake Ruedi.
The two suites include a king size bed, en-suite bath, with deep-soaking tubs sitting on radiant heat floors, with additional glass enclosed showers and water closets.
Our cancellation policy is strict and non-refundable upon deposit. Cell phones do not work at the house; there is no TV reception and internet satellite is slow and available at an extra charge of $15/day.
Bud and Sandy Mulcahy are involved in clean water projects in Kenya [ www.africawaterwells.org ] and African mounts are present in many rooms.
The kitchen is designed with entertainment in mind and private dining can be enjoyed on any of the three decks.
Our home is at the western edge of the Hunter Frying Pan Wilderness, a huge expanse of mountains and Alpine meadows, rivers, wildlife sanctuaries. The house is 34 miles from downtown Aspen and its four skiing mountains comprising the Aspen Skiing Company:
Aspen Mountain [Ajax], Buttermilk [easy], Snowmass [the highest vertical in the United States], and Aspen Highlands. Winter highlights include skiing, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, and sleigh rides.
In summer, the surrounding wilderness areas and their rich and varied ecosystems offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, 4 wheeling, hunting, flyfishing, and nature safaris.
Our home has its roots in the American West, in the ranches that wind through the Gold Medal flying of the Frying Pan River, and in the Rocky Mountains that rise up as a backdrop to the wide open Alpine Meadows it sits on.
