Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
We stayed here in August 2013. The house was even better than advertised! It was obviously recently renovated with care, and had nice landscaping. Everything from the paint job to the appliances was brand new, and the inside was nicely decorated. The dock was really new, and had a picnic table on it. It was great to be right on the water! There was also a picnic table in the back yard. The kitchen was stocked with everything we could have needed, and then some. There were a few board games that we had fun playing. There was wifi available, but we didn't test it out, as you have to set up an account and pay for minutes. Cell phone & internet connections were a bit spotty but manageable. Cambridge is about 12 miles away, and has a nice selection of restaurants. We pretty much focused on everything crab, and we were not disappointed. I had originally thought we'd end up going up to Easton or St. Michaels, but there was no need, as there were plenty of restaurants to choose from in Cambridge. Yelp & TripAdvisor have good reviews for local restaurants. We were looking forward to trying Soft & Salty Seafood, which is a market a few miles from the house & was recommended by the owner, but unfortunately, they were closed on Sunday. There's a nice visitor center by the Route 50 bridge, where you can get all sorts of brochures for things to do. There is a playground, and a walking trail along the water. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is a short distance away, and has nice walking & biking trails, and will have a new visitor center soon. Layton's Chance Winery is also not too far, but we didn't have time to make it there. There are a variety of cute shops in Cambridge. Although there are also a lot of empty stores, there were also a lot of signs showing the shops & restaurants that are coming soon. There's a new brewery there, but we didn't stop in. A Few of My Favorite Things is a cute coffee/ wine/cheese /candy shop that also sells the famous Smith Island Cake, which is now in my freezer, and I can't wait to try it. The owner was friendly & helpful, and answered my questions quickly. We were thrilled with the cottage, and really don't want to share it with anyone else!

We had a great time at this place. It is a cute little corner house with it's own pier. We had a wonderful time fishing, crabbing and watching Jelly fish from it's pier. There were tons of birds to see as well- Herons, Bald Eagles, Ospreys etc from the house and pier. There was an Osprey nest near the pier and we had fun observing the Ospreys feeding their babies. The famous Blackwater Nature Reserve is a twenty minutes drive and has many birds for the kids to enjoy. The owners have thought about everything in the house. We had a great view of the water and marsh area from the house. They have TVs in all rooms (although we didn't have much time to watch it). The owners are long time residents of the area and are very nice and helpful. They hooked us up with a great guy for a fishing trip where we caught many Rockfish. They also own Soft and Salty near the house and we had delicious crab cakes, home made ice cream and soup and cakes from them. They sell steamed and raw crab cakes as well. They gave us a tour of their crab factory which was fun and educational for us to see. We would love to come back to this house again.
