Balboa Island Elegant Cape Cod 2-Story Home
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Balboa Island
I spent my first summer on Balboa Island when I was 12 years old. I never forgot the wonderful experience - the beaches, charming houses, boating in the harbor, and the wonderful weather. I always dreamed about owning one of the beautiful houses. And one magical day my dream came true!
The Unique Benefits at this House
One of the greatest things about vacationing on the island is that you don't need to get in your car. That was my husband's criteria when we were looking for a vacation home. We love to spend our time biking, walking around the island, and crusing the harbor in our electric Duffy boat. Our house has been described by previous guests as one of the warmest and most comfortable houses that they have ever stayed in. I appreciate the opportunity to have other people enjoy themselves so much during their stay, love to read their entries in our guest book, and work hard to think of everthing that we could do or provide to ensure that our guests have a memorable vacation experience.
Owner's Map of Balboa Island
My husband is a cardiologist, and I am a real estate professional. We live in Phoenix, AZ. We fell in love with the house from the first moment that we saw it. There were already 3 other purchase offers submitted to the seller of the house. We put in our offer at the list minute and crossed our fingers. The rest is history, and we ended up with our dream vacation home.

This home is a wonderful beach house. Very lovely, extremely well maintained. Frankly, it was cleaner than most hotels that I have stayed at. The owners were easy to deal with. You can tell the moment you step inside that this home is loved by it's owners. The upkeep and decor are all first rate. Everthing was very nautical and beachy. My kids loved the life size pirate statue as well! The house is perfect for a large family, and had all you needed to cook in and to entertain. We enjoyed having friends visit us. We went there for Fall Break visiting from Arizona. My kids loved taking the ferry to the beach, just a short walk from the house. We also enjoyed walking to the retail part of Balboa Island as our daily walk. It was just a short drive to Disneyland and to visit Socal friends in the area. I would rent this home again in a heart beat. This was my first time renting a home on VRBO and I am sold! For my large family of 4 children this is a much better way to go than a hotel. Thanks R & S for all the wonderful memories we made at your beautiful beach home.

We (myself and 5 friends from all corners of the world) thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay in this beautiful, well appointed home. It was immaculate and well located--I would certainly recommend it to anyone seeking accommodation on Balboa Island. We were only sorry that, of necessity, our stay was so short (4 days) and very much look forward to our next opportunity to visit Orange County and take advantage of being able to stay in this lovely home. Kudos to the owners for providing such superlative accommodation.

My wife and I rented the Cape Cod home for my kids spring break (2 teenagers), my wife’s parents also joined us. The home was very nice and clean, perfect for 6 people with plenty of room for everyone. My in-laws spent much of their time exploring the island and reading on the front porch. We brought 4 beach cruisers with us and my wife, kids, and I would take the ferry over to Balboa and bike to Newport and Huntington beaches along the endless boardwalk, stopping for lunch, coffee, shopping, or just to explore. It was a nice and relaxing vacation and the weather was perfect. The home is located in a quiet area but you’re not far from all the action, so you have the best of both worlds. I would highly recommend this property.

As we did, especially coming from as far as Tokyo, Japan, you've probably looked at a lot of potential places to rent and you are hoping you pick the right place. Sometimes where you stay can make or break the relaxing vacation you had planned; you keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best. The Heuser's Balboa Island beach house really made this vacation what we had hoped it would be.The house is big, beautiful and very very clean; it surpassed all expectations on every level! With the exception of the food we picked up at a local nearby supermarket, the house lacks nothing. Whether it was the granite counter-top stool seating for our two children to make eating and clean-up simple; the fantastic high-end barbecue; the jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom; or the beach toys provided by the Heusers, it all came together to make an easy vacation. Balboa Island has a circular path that we walked at least twice a day. The kids collected seashells and other treasuries, while we relaxed on the seawall and watched the ever-changing mixer of boats go about their business. We saw some awesome sunsets in the evening and met some really nice islanders on our walks. The house is located a few minutes walk from the ferry that crosses the channel to the coastal beaches, Balboa pier and the Fun Zone. You can also pick up the morning paper and snacks here at the minimart. I could go on about both the house and the Island, but rest assured when we return we will be renting the Heuser's beach house again, without hesitation!! Enjoy, The Browns from Tokyo, Japan

Hi Shari, I am sorry we haven't sent you a note earlier, because we all LOVED the house and our vacation! The house exceeded our expectations. Your furnishings are beautiful, and we loved all the details that make this house relaxing and comfortable - great showers, sound system, very comfortable beds, and a great kitchen. My sister loved the Pirate, and insisted on pictures with him. Thank you for the welcome gift - it was unexpected and very sweet. Thanks for leaving beach toys available - we used them daily. I didn't know how usable the Balboa Island beaches would be, but the beach really close to your house was perfect for a three year old. Oh, and our new favorite breakfast place - Wilma's Patio. I think I gained at least 4 pounds, and I have to blame the shakes at Ruby's...oh well, they were delicious. I could go on and on.... Thank you so very much for a fantastic vacation in a beautiful house. It was so wonderful. Sincerely, M. Walter

Oh my gosh, what a beautiful place you have in Balboa. The pirate was the "hit" - right up there with Disneyland with the three kids. We had such a wonderful time - everything was perfect. We throughly enjoyed your home - it is so comfortable and beautifully decorated - there was absolutely NOTHING that we wanted for. We ate all of our meals there - inside - outside - all around. Thanks again so much.

The week at your beautiful Balboa Island home was wonderful! You have thought of everything for your guests. The home is gracious, beautifully decorated and outfitted, in a wonderful location. My family loved it. Even the "graduate" who thought we should be closer to the ocean decided I had made a great choice. Thank you for sharing your home!

I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your beautiful home. It is very well equipped (the toothbrush was especially thoughtful), incredibly spacious, and so nicely done. It was perfect for two families. We had a wonderful time and especially enjoyed the fabulous weather. You truly have one of the nicest houses on the island. Lucky you!
