No Bank Beachfront Home on Private Beach - Keystone Sand Spit
- Minimum stay:2-5 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
This private beach house is located within the Ebey's Reserve National Reserve Park area and is situated on the west side of Whidbey Island on its own private beach. The home is in the middle of the Keystone Spit in a national park adjacent to Fort Casey State Park, yet the Beach House is just four miles from the historic town of Coupeville, a Red Apple grocery store and Whidbey General Hospital. The home is surrounded on three sides by public property and only has three neighbors to the west. This home is not stacked and packed into a large development of beach houses but instead is part of a small in-holding within and between State and National park areas. You will really enjoy the privacy.
You can relax in 2800 + square feet of comfort in this fully equipped home. The large private fenced backyard goes almost all the way to the high tide line of Puget Sound. Since several people have asked, our property is on the water and it is private waterfront. There is over 2 miles of State owned beach to the east of ours, but it is pretty quiet and rarely used. An adjustable forced air heating system will keep you warm in the winter and the AC will keep you cool in the summer.
Enjoy wonderful water, mountain, and shipping views from almost every room in the house. A huge deck with four foot tall, one-quarter inch thick safety glass walls is perfect for dinner and drinks. We are immediately adjacent to almost two miles of publicly owned 'Ebey's Reserve' beach so our location feels very private. Puget Sound is due south and the Lake Crockett bird refuge is due north across the street, so there is a lot of water views in almost all directions. There are so many different views of the site that you should request a link to more photos so you can get a better idea.
One of my favorite views is to the west right before sunset of the Colonel's house in old Fort Casey. I have some great pictures of this and will forward a link upon request.
The Beach House is only a five minute (flat) walk to the Keystone Ferry with service to Port Townsend! The ferry leaves from very close by and lands right in the heart of the waterfront of the beautiful town of Port Townsend, so no car is needed to enjoy the fine restaurants, shopping, and other amenities available there.
Outdoor activities abound here, with fantastic salmon fishing and crabbing, wonderful kayaking or world class diving from your backyard. The public boat launch is next to the ferry terminal and is less than one minute by car. The home is bounded by Fort Casey State Park on east, Puget Sound on the south, and Crockett Lake on the north. Whidbey Island is the home of Naval Air Station Oak Harbor. The aircraft, ships, subs, and parachutists can appear at anytime. The aircraft and parachutists have been seen flying in most areas, including overhead.
This smoke-free home is located in the middle of the main waterfowl flyway of Whidbey Island. For you runners, the distance around the lake is 5.6 miles. An excellent training area for both running and biking. A wise choice for the family that wishes to be close to the cities, but maintain their privacy.
This home is 90 minutes from Seattle (including Ferry) and 75 minutes from Bellingham by car. The local airport is 15 minutes away and air taxi can be arranged with Kenmore Air 866 435 9524. The 25 minute trip from Seattle is scheduled 4 times a week.
The Beach House is equipped for 8 persons in four separate and quiet bedrooms and is kid friendly. There is also one additional semi private sleeping area not including the great room with a King sized Murphy bed. One of the ground floor rooms with a king bed also has a large window seat that can also be utilized as a sleeping area.
The home has DSL internet and a wireless router for easy use by guests. Each bedroom has two cat5 ethernet jacks to connect to the network too. DirecTV service is provided on at least 2 TV's .
We recently added a gym quality LifeFitness 9500 Elliptical training machine.

Winter at Whidbey Island is a great time of the year to stay at the beach house. The windows on the top floor have a practically unobstructed 180 degree view of ocean and shores of Admiralty Inlet that really makes winter storm watching a great pastime, or a great accompaniment to reading that great book or novel that you have been putting off for lack of time or competing “must dos”. What really makes it great is the house we stayed in, Tom’s Whidbey House, is warm, clean, and roomy letting everyone have their own space to do their own thing without interference and yet has enough open spaces for socializing, playing games, and otherwise enjoying each others company. A really neat thing about the house and its location is that it is right across the road from Crockett Lake which is a great Bird Viewing area. In fact because it is so close to the house we had Bald Eagles swooping past our windows and even had a Blue Heron as a guest who stayed for quite a while at the bottom of the back steps. There are still many places we have yet to visit on Whidbey, so we know that we will be back. Truthfully, it was hard to have to pack up and leave!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

We had a fantastic time at your beach house! We appreciated the warmth and space - it was perfect for our family to relax and reunite with our son who had been in Ethiopia for two years! The skies were dramatic and the waves were crashing on the shore - so nice to look out the windows and enjoy the scenery from a cozy view point. We were all surprised to see the ferry come in the first night - we jumped up and ran to the window! The following morning, an eagle circled above the backyard a few times - amazing! We appreciated the emails from Tom that contained maps, directions and specifics about the house. The beach house was perfect for our family reunion! Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

This is the second time my family has rented this property for a family reunion. The house is a wonderful place for us to gather and enjoy all that Whidbey Island has to offer. The house is comfortable and well maintained. The second floor "great room" (living room, dining room, kitchen) has a fantastic view of Admiral Bay and Puget Sound. There is a large fenced yard for young ones to play in while adults relax on the upstairs deck and watch the water traffic in the Puget Sound. The no bank beach is just outside the fenced yard, and provides endless hours of fun. A lovely ferry ride to Port Townsend is within walking distance from the house. There were 10 of us all together, 8 adults and 2 children, representing 3 generations, and we all fit comfortably with room to spare. We loved the time we spent here, and plan to return again soon! Thanks Tom!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

Having spent too much time working this year, it was time for the family to make a break for it and getaway for some time together. This beach house provided exactly what we needed. Just far enough from the everyday, as we live just north of the border. Upon our arrival, we immediately loved the location. A perfect blend of nature with parks, trails, and miles and miles of beaches to comb. Our little one particularly liked exploring all the rocks and shells on the beach. A favourite sight was the curious seal who popped up to see what we were up to a few times. We really liked how spacious the beach house was. A great big kitchen that allowed us to whip up some of our favourite meals together. Great open windows gave us expansive views on the ocean...something we couldn't find elsewhere. A worry-free fully enclosed deck so our little one could play. The owner was responsive to our requests. Very friendly. We would defitinetely recommend this place to our friends and family and anyone who reads the reviews, That's why we chose this place, after all. Can't wait for a return visit!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Our group of 6 had a wonderful time at this truly waterfront beach home. The house is very large with spectacular views. Convenient to Coupeville and the Port Townsend ferry. It is situated in the middle of a bird sanctuary with all kinds of different species. If you are golfers "The Gallery" golf course in Oak Harbor and a great course to play. The owner was very responsive and easy to deal with. A great time was had by all.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Everything about the house was fantastic, and we got amazing weather to boot! The proprietor was very communicative and helpful. Highlight was a sunny 12 mile beach/bluff walk up to Ebey's landing and around Parego's Lake and back from the beach house. I would absolutely recommend this vacation rental.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

We just enjoyed a long weekend at this lovely home. There were 5 adults and 2 small children and we all had a fabulous time. The property is well maintained, the kitchen is very well equiped. Comfortable beds and jacuzzi tubs were enjoyed by all. The beach is great; there are two fire pits with seating around them. We will definitely be going back.Did you find this review helpful? We were two families reuniting for a weekend, and this house was the perfect place for all of us. We spent hours on the beach building with the driftwood and playing with the round stones. It was quite therapeutic actually, to be so close to nature, and for the kids to play with all-natural elements. We walked over to the ferry landing, and crossed over to Port Townsend for an ice cream treat and a stop in a toy store. The weather was amazing and we had views of the snowcapped mountains. The whole scenery made me terribly homesick for my home country, Norway, where I grew up in this type of landscape with ferries passing, snowcapped mountains, the sea, the landscape, everything. I understand why Norwegians settled in this area when they emigrated to the new world. The location of this house, being the last one before the park was really great. A couple of people had amazing jogs in the morning. You can get coffee from a cafe at the ferry landing in the morning, or do a quick drive into Coupeville for groceries. Very convenient. And the way the house is built gives you great views even while cooking or lounging in the sofa! The kitchen was great, the baths and bedrooms comfortable. Check-in and check-out easy. We would love to go back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: We are busy professionals in Seattle (mom is a pediatrician at Ballard Pediatrics and dad is a mortgage banker at Westwood Mortgage) and we wanted to find a place out of the city for our family. Our boys love the beach (don't all kids) and Whidbey Island is beautiful with the peacefulness of the San Juan Islands but with nearby services like a Hospital right up the road. Since we are very busy and can't get up to this property as much as we desire, we have chosen to share this home with you. We hope you can create some great memories with yoru friends and family like we do.
Why the Owner Chose Coupeville:
This home is located in a small sliver of private property of 7 homes surrounded by park property, wildlife refuge, a Washington State Ferry Terminal (Coupeville to Pt. Townsend), an underwater dive park (Keystone Underwater Park) and both fresha nd salt water. So, how often can you buy a beach house inside of a Park? Central Whidbey and Ebey's Reserve is like the San Juan Islands without the 5+ hour journey and lack of services. Our relatively isolated home sits within the Ebey's Landing National Reserve Park and feels a lot further away than 1.5 hours from Seattle. There is great Salmon fishing right on our beach. Our house is on the east end of the seven homes and it is adjacent to over two miles of State of Washington owned beach and park area.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Wonderful walks on the beach collecting beach glass and various other things that wash ashore, piles of driftwood, sunrises and sunsets, happy islanders, and a generally relaxed feeling. We can't get enough. Our family and friends love to visit. This house is not scrunched up against a long row of homes, you can have some quiet privacy. Switch this Google map to satellite view and see how much open space you can enjoy when you are here. Watch ferries come and go all day long from the beach or the deck.
