This townhouse is a real home away from home. It has three large bedrooms with great furnishings including a modern kitchen with clean modern appliances. It is located between kay and catherine streets in newport and has the advantage of being in the center of newport with access to restaurants, bars, shops and the harbor but at the same time located in a quiet neighborhood. You can walk to the beach is five minutes or being sipping a cocktail in one of newport's many waterfront restaurants in the same five minute walk.
The bedrooms are located on the second and third floors and all beds have new quality mattresses. There is plenty of storage and all linens and towels are furnished. There is a washer and dryer in the basement for your convenience as well as a patio and outside grill for al fresco summer dining.

Sadly, upon arrival, the home had numerous ladders and scaffolding surrounding it. Paint cans covered the side porch. The smoke alarm on the 3rd floor was beeping due to a weak battery. A phone call was placed to the owner and a voice message left. My freinds and I went to purchase a replacement battery and I replaced it. We also encountered issues with the keys. The owner did respond with this call, bringing new keys and excuses for painters actively working on the property. We tried to rearrange the furniture in the backyard to make use of it only to return in the evening to find everything moved again for the comfort of the painters, who left windows open in our absence. The owner's wife was apologetic but no offer was made to offer a discount for the week long inconvenience.

Owner response: We do our best to keep the house in top condition and regret any inconvenience these maintenance projects may create. In this case, the contractors were scheduled to be finished with the painting several weeks prior to this party's arrival. We can only apologize but maintaining a property in pristine condition so close to the ocean requires ongoing care. The new paint job is great and should last for four or five years.

We rented this townhouse for a week during mid-August. It is located very close to one of the main streets in Newport which made it very convenient. The townhouse is spacious and tastefully decorated with a large living/dining area and very nice kitchen. There is also a cute little backyard with a patio table and barbeque, which was very enjoyable. Everything was extremely clean and the beds were very comfortable. We would highly recommend this townhouse to anyone who is looking for a vacation rental in Newport!

My family of four stayed in the townhouse for one week. We found the description accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. The location was convenient and the owner was very helpful. A few suggestions I would offer are: -Replace the mattress and box spring in the master bedroom. They provide little support and make you feel like you're lying in a hammock. -Replace the ceiling fan in the second bedroom. It makes such a loud noise when operating it was not useable in the evening. -The top half of one front window would not stay shut unless the entire window remained closed and locked. Suggest installing a couple of window a/c units to lower humidity and cool the house down during summer. -Unless we missed it, we were unaware of the day when trash and recycles would be collected. Would've been happy to take them to the curb. -The four of us felt at home in the townhouse, but if there were more in our party, think the level of comfort would diminish and sleeping arrangements would be a problem. The 3rd level was not really useable. Thank you for your hospitality.

Thanks for the feedback it is always welcome. As for the mattress in the master bedroom, I am sorry you found it uncomfortable. It is brand new this year and is called a "comforpedic" which I believe is a combination of a standard mattress topped with a tempurpedic type foam. My wife and I find it helps with our lower back pain and most guests have found it quite comfortable.

We had such a wonderful time in this amazing home. The house was in a perfect location, right in between the beach and all the great shops and restaurants onThames St. You could walk everywhere yet still felt you were off the beaten path. The house itself was charming, a beautiful garden to have your morning tea and read or a glass of wine after a fun day of activities. The decorating was welcoming, the space gave off such a warm and positive feeling; great to have laundry downstairs, especially if you have children. The kitchen was new, with top of the line appliances and all the amenities you need for a night of home cooking. I especially liked and appreciated the owners welcoming, helpful and laid back attitude. We really felt at home and cannot wait to return again!

About the owner: My wife and I are native Rhode Islanders. We have three grown sons of whom we are proud. In the summer, we spend a lot of time sailing and thus have the opportunity to share a Newport home with guests during the summer season. Although I am supposed to be retired, I find I am still working and teaching at NYU. My wife Judy is a registered nurse and specializes in hospice and palliative care.
Why the Owner Chose Newport:
We have always loved Newport and are avid sailors. So, a few years ago we set out to find a house in Newport that we could move to in our retirement and also keep us by the sea all year round. We wanted a cozy place, close to everything and all of Newport's Historical charm. We certainly found the right place with this townhouse and I know you will find it a home away from home if you choose to spend time with us as guests. The house also has a Navy connection for me. Back in the late 1890s, the Navy built a cluster of houses for senior officers and their families. Our neighborhood has six or seven of these houses (all restored) of which ours is one. I spent a number of years in the Navy and found this connection something of a link to my youth.

You can walk to everything. The rear patio gets wonderful light from Noon to sundown. The little garden is secluded and relaxing. The house has so many bathrooms that if all your guests had to use the facilities at once, no one would have to wait. The house just has an air of peace about it almost prevents you from doing anything else but relaxing.
