Mission Canyon house description
This gorgeous, custom-designed home is the perfect hideaway in Santa Barbara, offering complete privacy in a lovely natural setting, yet is only minutes from downtown.
The large, four-bedroom, 3200 square foot home is located on a half-acre wooded, creekside property and is walking distance to the Santa Barbara Mission, Botanic Garden, Natural History Museum, and some of Santa Barbara's best hiking trails. Surrounded by towering oak tress, meandering native and woodland gardens, large lawn, entertaining patios, and an organic garden, this home offers a complete indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
The mid-century rustic design features post and beam architecture, walls of windows and open-beam ceilings along with modern luxuries such as a brand-new gourmet kitchen, open dining room and huge upstairs great room.
The newly remodeled, high-end, chef's kitchen features a 6-burner Viking stove, new stainless steel appliances, All Clad cookware and large L-shaped granite island where guests can sit and socialize. The spacious kitchen island separates the chef's area from the open dining room with a decorative fireplace and views to the bamboo forest in back and garden to the front. The open, formal living room is adjacent to the kitchen for easy entertaining and offers a beautiful garden view.
Upstairs, the 1000+ square foot Great Room affords a magnificent treehouse view of majestic oak trees through a wall of windows. The great room is warm and inviting with a large sectional couch, love seat, upholstered chairs, play area/reading area and second large dining room. French doors open from the great room onto the upstairs outdoor patio and dining area which floats in the treetops.
There are four, generously-sized bedrooms total - two bedrooms downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. The first downstairs bedroom has a queen size bed with a private window. The second downstairs bedroom has a full size bed, twin daybed and view of the front garden. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a California King-size bed with a new, organic luxury mattress, Pottery Barn furnishings, built-in desk, French door and a private treetop window view. The fourth upstairs bedroom is a child's room with a twin bed and desk that can be configured with children's toys or a queen size Aerobed. The two bathrooms both have showers and extra-large tubs. Linens, bath towels, and beach towels are included.
The outdoor gardens are truly magnificent at this property, with birds and crickets chirping and frogs croaking. Deer walk through the back hillside and white cottontails can be spotted in the early morning. Drink coffee on the upstairs treehouse patio in the morning, sip wine on the lounge patio in an adirondack chair in the afternoon, and dine on the eating patio next to the vegetable garden in the evening. Swing on one of the two tree swings - thrilling for adults and kids alike! The property is also a child's natural wonderland with a zip line, bamboo teepee, wooden rocking boat, outdoor sports toys and a children's picnic table. Boogie boards, soft top surf boards, beach chairs, beach umbrella, sand toys, and beach cooler are available. The home is only minutes to the beach, downtown shopping and Santa Barbara sights, but you may never want to leave.
* This home is great for families and groups of responsible, adult couples. Primary guests must be age 25 or older.

- Mission Canyon is rich in Santa Barbara history, and a section of the century-old Mission aqueduct still exists on the property. You can also catch a glimpse of Cathedral Peak from the lawn - looking up one of the most dramatic canyons in the Santa Ynez mountains. Hikers will love the easy access to some of the best trails the area has to offer, including Rattlesnake, Seven Falls, and Inspiration Point trails. Cyclists might try the nearby famous Gibraltar Climb, called the 'Alp d'Huez of North America' by some, or can choose easier routes along Mountain Drive - complete with Channel Island views. Naturalists will enjoy a quick walk through the Botanic Gardens nearby. City and beach goers will appreciate that this seclusion is only minutes from downtown and some of the beast beaches and surf spots in the world. While there is a bus going to the Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens on the weekend, you will need a car during the week. There are parking spots for up to four cars. This is also bike-able location - only 15 minutes to and from downtown....moreless

One of the Nicest Vacations We've Had in Years!Guest comment entered by owner
One of the Nicest Vacations We've Had in Years!
"We had an amazing stay at Seven Oaks and were very happy with the house. We have been traveling and renting houses in the US now for many years and never had found such a beautiful and tastefully furnished and decorated place. The colors and pictures are so beautiful. The garden and the magic trees were worth a stay by themselves. The level at which the house is appointed is such a pleasure. From the sharp knives and the entire cooking equipment in the kitchen, to the quality of the towels and linens, the amazing choice of nice toys for the children and the number of the beach toys, the access to the washer and dryer. We also found the beds very comfortable. There was even a nice welcome bag left for us. We all agreed that we would move into this house immediately! The location of the house is a big plus, since the nights there a incredibly quiet, that the proximity to the canyon gives you warm evenings that you can spend on the terrace or in the garden to do star gazing (we saw some incredible shooting stars) and makes for sunnier and warmer days. Also the architecture of the house with its large windows, the green surroundings combined with your decor and furnishing and the weather create such a light filled, calming and cheerfully welcoming atmosphere that everybody in our party felt immediately at ease and on vacation upon entering the house. I would say it was one of the nicest vacations we have had in the past years and the house and location played a big part in that."

The house is comfortable, very clean, and set up perfectly for a rental. The kitchen is freshly remodeled--big, new, and very well equipped and organized. It even has a large pantry. Two bedrooms up and two down make it a good house for two families. Upstairs there's a large play room with a tv and lots of games. Kid heaven! The house is nicely set in the oaks, with attractive landscaping, a lovely vegetable garden, and productive fruit trees. We saw lots of hummingbirds and butterflies. Outdoor areas are perfect for peaceful morning coffee or an evening cookout. Our kids loved the rope swing and zip line, and we hosted friends in the outdoor dining area. The beach gear--chairs and boogie boards--was handy and well-organized. We used it several times. We loved the location. It's very private, but also close to downtown, the beach, or the mountain trails.

Wow, did we ever love staying at Seven Oaks. Rustic Santa Barbara living at its best. Right up the street from the Mission, tucked away in its own private neighborhood sits this beautiful rustic home. As a creative person, I loved how every bit of this great home was aesthetic. From original paintings to great quality homey furniture that made me feel like visiting a friend, absolutely everything on our wishlist to enjoy a relaxing vacation was there. Airy space, comfy beds with plenty of room for our two families to have shared space and personal space. Boogy boards, beach towels, outdoor candles for the table, books for every age and interest. One night we made a chocolate cake from scratch and every pan, measuring cup, bowl and mixer we could have wished for was there and so organized. Thank you for amazing hospitality. This is a truly special place that made a great memory and we look forward to our next visit.

BEAUTIFUL, WARM, and INVITING!!!!
BEAUTIFUL, WARM, and INVITING!!!!
First and foremost, this is an incredibly beautiful and WARM home. The minute that we walked in, we felt like we were home. It is an organized, inviting atmosphere with EVERY essential possible that made our stay easy and perfect! Although the photos on VRBO are beautiful, they do not convey the warmth that you will feel the moment you walk into this home! This lovely home is on the most beautiful piece of property where we felt very private but discovered that we were VERY close to everything. The yard is as beautiful as the home, with seating and dining areas, tree swings, and a zip line! Thank you to the wonderful owners of this property who made our visit to Santa Barbara the most wonderful experience that we've ever had. We hope to be back next summer!

You can't do any better than this!
You can't do any better than this!
Everything about this home is wonderful. The owner had fresh flowers, wine, candy and a bottle of water waiting to welcome us when we arrived. The house is in the most lovely neighborhood - there are only a few houses on this quiet street. There is a beautiful view from every window! The house had absolutely everything that you could ask for in the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms. My kids had a wonderful time playing in the yard - on the swings (a really cool long one from an old oak tree), the zip line, and in the vegetable garden. It was probably the most relaxing time I have ever had in Santa Barbara. (We come up every year for the summer solstice parade... ) The owner has decorated this house in a palette of beautiful beach colors. From the art work on the walls to the sweet quilts scattered around the house, to the sweet birds everywhere, the house is a treat to discover. I would recommend this vacation rental to anyone!
