Hello Robin and Jim, Just returned last night from your beautiful cabin. I couldn't believe how quiet and peaceful it is yet so close to everything. The cabin is the perfect base location to explore Pigeon Forge, Smokies and of course Gatlinburg, which is only a few minutes away. Only a short drive to any of the other locations. We had such a wonderful time! Explored Gatlinburg for a few hours, went to the Arts and Crafts community, and hiked in the Smokies. Of course we had to go to the Outlet Mall in Sevierville. :) We did eat at the Park Grill and it was delicious. Also, ate at Calhouns which was really good too. The days flew by too quickly!! Thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin and we hope to return. Joy and Steve Taylor

We recently stayed for four nights, Sunday through Thursday, and had a great time. The cabin is clean, quiet, and provides a lot of nice amenities (hot tub, surround sound stereo). You really feel secluded here, it is toward the top of the mountain (bit of a steep drive up) and has a great view from the deck. It's close to downtown Gatlinburg, about a 5 minute trip down the hill. We didn't walk to town like some people said they were able to do. We weren't huge fans of downtown Gatlinburg, honestly, just too much of a tourist trap. Our best times were spent in the National Park and exploring other areas. No bear sightings for us at the cabin, but we were lucky enough to have two sightings elsewhere - one at Cades Cove and the other on a hike to Grotto Falls (highly recommend this if you like hiking!). Thanks for the great place!

My sister and I came to Gatlinburg to celebrate my 50th B-Day. We rented this cabin after viewing it on line and it was just as nice when we arrived at it was on the website. We really enjoyed the peacefulness the cabin offered after a day of walking in town it was nice to come back to the cabin and relax on the deck and watch the sunset over the mountains. The black bear sighting one morning at the cabin was exciting he was just there a moment then went back to the woods. Our vacations was great and really hated to leave the peace and quiet of this place and go back to the City. We had and awesome time. We will definately remember this place and come back. Thank you for the use of your beautiful cabin.
Owner response:Nancy, Thanks for taking the time to send in the review. Robin and I are so glad that Bear Pause was everything you had hoped it would be. We would love to have you back again soon . . . even if it's not your birthday!

We had a wonderful time at "Bear Pause". The cabin was very well maintained, and great view of the lights of Gatlinburg at night. We actually saw wild turkeys, and got some great photo's of them. The drive up to the cabin is a little steep, but well worth it when you arrive. The master bedrooms king size bed was so comfortable, we both slept great every night. Loved the pool table, and the hot tub was perfect after a day walking around Gatlinburg. The stereo system was so nice to have, and we could turn on the outside speakers, and just sit in the rocking chairs, and enjoy! No Bears at Bear Pause, but lots of relaxation, and views.

Our family of 3 just spent a long weekend in Gatlinburg and very much enjoyed our stay at Bear Pause. The location was perfect! Very close to the park, yet away from the traffic and craziness of Gatlinburg. The hot tub was heavenly after long hikes in mountains. And with a full kitchen, there was no need to wait in long restaurant lines for dinner. We'll certainly be back to Bear Pause when we return to the Smokys!

My family of four (two 7 year olds) LOVED staying at this cabin! All went smoothly from the time of reservation to check out and the conscientious owners were great to deal with. Ideally located for all the region has to offer and minutes from the busy Gatlinburg - Pigeon Forge area, but still far enough away to enjoy the serenity of the mountains. We even had a visit from a family of bears! The cabin was comfortable and had all the comforts of home and the kids loved the pool table. Everyone had a great time, we will definitely be back. Thanks Jim & Robin!

When you read this review you will think i must be a family member or friend of the owners and am not! Our small urban family of 3 drove 10 hours from Chicago to this wonderful cabin in Gatlinburg and were a bit nervous. We are not used to vacationing in the south and really didn't know if we would be like fish out of water. Driving through Pigeon Forge made me think I had made a horrid mistake until we entered Gatlinburg and more specifically...our cabin! Location..location..location. I cant say enough about how this cabin is situated and this was the most important thing to our family. There were more expensive cabins we had looked at...but were piled together...yuck! Size wasn't an issue for us. It was all about location and the cabin facilitating an exceptional experience for our family. This is somewhat of a secluded cabin that truly feels like you are away from it all but you are so close to everything. Not only that, it is outfitted/designed in a high-end 2nd home type way with great kitchen items, a huge dining table w/view, great sofas, beds and more. Each night we sat on the porch rockers listening to the sounds and taking in the beautiful view while our 12 year old lived in the "very clean" hot tub. He became country very quickly and loved running up and down the VERY STEEP entry way to the cabin at dusk with our Chiwawa and going immediately to the back porch to eat breakfast when he woke in the morning. These moments we will treasure the most and the cabin facilitated these authentic, unique and exceptional experiences in a way that I dont think many other cabins could. Also, I need to make mention of the bears! One morning we saw not one but three bears..baby first..then mommy and pappa from our back porch when my son threw a piece of cantalope for our dog and missed. I think we took about 50 pictures. Lastly, we were fortunate to have done so many activities like white water rafting, horseback riding and hiked over 4,000 feet during our stay. What meant the most was comming back to this heavenly place, opening a bottle of wine, enjoying our family and everything that is cabin had to offer.
Owner response:Deanna, Thanks so much for your gracious review. I'm so glad that Bear Pause met and even exceeded your expectations. How nice that mother nature accommodated you as well with the visit of the three bears! We would love to have you back anytime!

Our family spent 5 nights at this beautiful cabin. It was beyond perfect for a family of 5 needing down time. Very clean and convienient to Gatlinburgs main strip...walking distance! Easy trip Down the mountain..great exercise walking back UP :) The hot tub on deck, gas grill, pool table, Dish TV, surround sound, and of course 2 visits by a bear! Perfect touch...almost staged. He wondered on the deck looked around and wandered back up the mountain. We will definately be back !!!!! Mark, Linda and Family

My son and I stayed in your cabin for a week. We had a terrific time. I looked at a number of cabins before selecting this one. This was the only "true" cabin that we saw both before our arrival and after. We were so comfortable here. Getting here was easy. The owner was very kind and didn't forget our christmas tree. We had everything - great appliances, clean bathrooms, great fireplace. The driveway was easy to navigate - not too long, nicely paved, and easy to enter and exit. An added bonus was the close proximity to Gatlinburg, a picturesque and quaint little town offering plenty to do. Looking forward to a return in the future, with memories to hold until then.

Dear Jim, Just wanted to say.....WOW! Your cabin provided the perfect "home" for our vacation! The cabin was beautiful and just great to come back to after a day of hiking, rafting, sightseeing. We really enjoyed the hot tub, view and pool table! The road to the cabin made me a little nervous but luckily we only had to pass by 3 cars during the week. The location was great too - just what we were looking for. Easy enough to get to the park but close to dowtown Gatlinburg. We really enjoyed a restaurant that just opened earlier this year that is close by on 321 - Ogles Brick Oven Italian - just in case you are back to enjoy your cabin. I hope we have the opportunity to rent your beautiful cabin again! Julie, Patrick and Danielle Lusk

Jim and Robin,We enjoyed our visit at Bear Pause on November 19-22, 2006. The cabin is very comfortable and just like the pictures on the internet portray it. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub while looking at the lights of Gatlinburg. It snowed during our stay, which we really liked (after we stocked up on food and drink). We saw a black bear and a couple of deer right outside the cabin during our stay. Boy, when you say the cabin is up the mountain, you aren’t kidding! The sign at the road going up the mountain warned that it was steep and narrow and I must say that no money was wasted on that little sign! Our visit was so quite and peaceful we came back rested and relaxed just one should following a wonderful vacation.Phillip & Doris Lord, Hull, GA

Jim and Robin, My family and I just want to say "WoW". Your log house on the mountian over looking the smokies was everything and more of what we were looking for. It made our vacation so much more enjoyable than staying in a hotel. Thanks again and we will be back sometime in the future.

Jim, Your cabin was beautiful! My family and I enjoyed everything about it!! The views were breathtaking and the the amenities you provided were just like being at home, but better! While we were visiting, we decided to cook breakfast outside on your grill(which my husband fell in love with). After we were all seated at the dining table, we spied a black bear coming down from the mountain looking for HIS breakfast! The kids loved it! So did the adults. The bear wasn't too pleased to hear my small children yelling "A BEAR!!" Mr Bear walked all over the drive in front of the cabin and then went back up into the mountain to escape the toddlers!! The hot tub was great...the stereo was great...the pool table was very entertaining and we just can't wait to get back up there! Two nights was definitely not enough! We will be back!!

Dear Jim and Robin, We really enjoyed your cabin this past weekend. We will be contacting you again, only next time we will make sure to have at least three days available because two is not enough. My wife and I arrived Friday afternoon in the daylight hours, which made driving up the mountain much easier. Your directions were to the tee. Our kids made it up after dark but ahead of a bad thunderstorm. We watched a brilliant light show come over the mountain from the west. Staring out from your front deck, we watched the lights of OberGatlinburg disappear when the rain began. Our plans were for the youngest two and me to go hiking, but your cabin was so comfortable, we could not leave until around 1:30pm. After an eight mile hike, the hot tub was exactly what the doctor ordered. We really enjoyed the pool table; played by flashlight when the electricity went out briefly Friday night. To sum it up, we really enjoyed this past weekend. It is a great place to escape the rigors of work. The cabin is remote yet extremely close to Gatlinburg. It is well furnished, and I can only speak for the master bed but it is extremely comfortable. You'll be hearing from us again.
