- Philipsburg is an idyllic town tucked up against the Flint Mountain Range abounding in outdoor activities and friendly western hospitality. Lining a historic downtown Main Street you’ll find a brew pub, incredible Sweet Shop candy store (not to be missed), Saphire Gallery with locally mined stones, restaurants, unique gift shops, a fly fishing store, antiques and one of the best thrift stores around. Within 15 minutes is the Discovery Ski Resort with a range of skiing options, Georgetown Lake Recreation Area and Granite (ghost mining town). Just outside of town you can enjoy world class fly fishing, hike, mountain bike or picnic within sight of the continental. A visit will not be complete without spotting moose, elk, mountain goats or deer. There's even a Jack Nicolas designed golf course (with black sand) only a half hour away in Anaconda....moreless

An authentic Phillipsburg experience
An authentic Phillipsburg experience
Experience rural America. The construction details, furnishings, pictures etc. This how they lived and still live in a slow paced, community focused, hard working rural Montana town. The introduction of the Phillipsburg Brewing Company with it's tasting room and warm, friendly, everyone is welcome ambiance is modern evolution of their country values and hospitality. A wonderful experience and we will be back. Thank you PBurg

We had a very enjoyable time in Philipsburg celebrating "Valley Days". The house was just as it is listed. Could use a window AC unit but had a fan and we brought a fan just in case. Nice and clean and comfortable. We were able to bring our dog as long as we paid a fee.

Great owners, perfect place to stay in Philipsburg!
Great owners, perfect place to stay in Philipsburg!
Comfortable and cute, this bungalow lived up to its description and expectations. A homey atmosphere with an artsy flair. Couldn't have been happier with our accommodations! Would loved to have stayed longer. Philipsburg's downtown area is just a few blocks away with a variety of shops to visit. Minerals, gems, antiques, clothing and a sweet shop with nearly any type of candy one could think of. We hiked from the bungalow into the hills for beautiful views. A drive to the ghost town was easy and fun to see. One regret was not seeing a moose. But there was plenty of other wildlife to see, including a golden eagle that flew across the hood of our car. Awesome! Looking forward to returning in the winter for skiing and snowshoeing.

The listing was accurate in describing the Bungalow. It was clean and comfortable and we had a quiet and pleasant stay. We really liked the location being just 2 blocks from downtown Philipsburg and near the hiking trails in the foothills behind town. These foothills have a lot of abandoned mines to explore, which makes for an interesting hiking experience. It would also be a good location to do some mountain biking and horseback riding. Philipsburg is a charming little town with a great sweet shop, which claims to be the biggest in the world, a few coffee shops, one micro brewery and a few halfway decent restaurants. A must see is "Granite" an abandoned mining town, which is four miles from Philipsburg. We hiked a dirt road up to the mining town, but we could have taken our car, which is not one of those high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicles prevalent around Montana. I think the road conditions change depending on the season though, so you should check first before heading in by car. Philipsburg is also well located to do any number of outdoor activities. We were interested in hiking and less then 20 miles way we were able to hike to an alpine lake in a wilderness area. This would also be a good location for winter sports such as skying, snowshoeing and cross country skying. All in all we had a great stay and hope to return to both the area and the bungalow we stayed in.

Owner response: We're glad you enjoyed our quiet little house, and the opportunity to do some of the many outdoor things that Philipsburg has to offer. It's great to be able to put the car aside for a while and walk to town or the surrounding countryside.
What a charming little house! This house certainly displays the old charm and characteristics of Philipsburg. Very cute. The listing is spot on in reflecting all this house has to offer. I would definitely recommend this property to my friends and family.

Owner response: We really tried to keep the integrity of the original house when we furnished and decorated it. We're glad that you picked up on that!

About the owner: We are Mike & Rita. We live at the gateway to the San Juan Islands in the seaside community of Anacortes north of Seattle - but we both grew up in the Rocky Mountains. We are busy professionals with an extended family nearby - we love travel, books, art, good food and wine and experiencing the world around us.
Why the Owner Chose Philipsburg:
Our fist visit to Philipsburg was like stepping back in time. We fell in love with the mountain setting, the amazing friendliness of the folks in town and all of the activities available around this community. It didn't take us long to decide that this is a place where we could see ourselves spending more time as we moved toward and into retirement. We found this little comfortable house filled with original charm, that was the perfect size for our needs. Just recently we decided since we have this great place that we are not yet able to utilize all that often, maybe we should share it with others who are looking for a similar experience. We decided to call our house James Croft to reflect our Scottish love and heritage.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Coming from the soggy northwest, we always rave about the light in our house. The glassed-in front porch and paned windows get the first rays of morning sun - add in a good cup of coffee and it's a perfect start to a day. The enclosed back porch similarly captures the evening light & sunset. We love the authentic Craftsman touches throughout the house - the glass french doors into the main bedroom - the built in closets and bookshevles - the wood trim throughout the house. While it's not fancy, we've done our best to make James Croft cozy and comfortable!
