Yet, only a short drive to Southwest Harbor or Bar Harbor. Also, there are 4 separate lakes and swim areas within 3 miles! The high cathedral ceiling of the main room and many windows open to the south onto a large deck and an expansive lawn secluded from the sound of traffic. The house sits on a 2 acre lot and is very private with woods on all 4 sides. Located nearly 800 feet from the nearest road, the sound of birds is all you will hear. A large, southern facing living room and dining room with a sliding glass door provides lots of sunshine and easy access to the front deck. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, large refrigerator, and all the typical kitchen appliances and supplies. The two bathrooms compliment one another: one is a self-contained bathroom with the shower, sink and toilet all in one room. The other bathroom has a washer/dryer and sink in one room with the walk-in shower and toilet in an adjoining room. This allows more people access to getting ready, do the laundry, etc. The walkout basement is fully furnished with 2 futons, a 49' flat screen TV, books, games for the whole family, and a recumbant bike. The 5,000 square front lawn provides plenty of space to play wiffle ball, horseshoes, run around, and generally enjoy the Maine outdoors, while the side lawn is fenced in and great for young children or pets. A covered brick patio offers a barbecue area.

Much of what we listed for attractions is found in the nearest town, but within 12-14 miles is the whole Island of Mount Desert - 3 golf courses, whale tours, airplane rides, tons of restaurants and bars, small shops, museums, beaches, hiking ---really, more than you could ever fit in within a week!!!
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I grew up on Mount Desert Island. I was born in Bar Harbor and lived in Northeast Harbor with my 4 brothers and sisters and two parents. Now I live in Somesville, a small village in the town of Mount Desert. I am the principal of a small K-8 school on the backside of the island. My school has 120 students and is one of the best schools! I have two grown sons and a husband. I love the island and living on it. It is a beautiful place but even more that that, you can do so many things: swim, fish, climb mountains, walk on carriage trails, go boating, kayaking, canoeing, lots of places to swim in both fresh and ocean water, and most of all, it is simply one of the most beautiful places you could ever see.
Why the Owner Chose Mount Desert: My husband and I bought our property with one of my sisters. The original acreage was 4 acres so we split it right down the middle. She built her home at the mouth of the driveway and my husband and I built our home at the very top of the driveway. We designed our home and I decorated and chose all of the paint colors and furniture. We wanted a property that was quiet and opened into the outdoors. Trimmed in pine with pine tongue and groove ceiling and large pine beams, the main room is the perfect invitation to the great outdoors, whether you open all the windows and let the breeze blow through and up through the sky lights, or look out at the dew upon the pines and flowers, we hope you'll enjoy things as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this House: One of my favorite attributes of my home is the location. It is centrally located on the island. I can drive to all sides of the island and off the island in about 15-20 minutes. This is a huge benefit! As I mentioned before, our home is surrounded by woods but we are minutes away from an Art Gallery, a small museum, and the town library. Tall pines sway in the summer breezes, and large oaks thrive just down the hill from the house. Along with this, I love the huge windows that face out to the lawn, trees, and blue sky. Every one who visits us always comments on how nice and airy our home is.
