comfortable furniture warm wood floors, mountains around 6 am TV next to FP
Location: Snowshoe, West Virginia, USA (Base of Snowshoe WV 4.5 hours to Washington DC)
Accommodations: Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
Ski Snowshoe, West Virginia, the best east coast skiing south of upper state New York. But, don’t spend your time cooped up in a small condominium, or in a worn out house with furniture that looks like it came out of a College Fraternity House. And do you really feel comfortable when it comes to laying on the floor or rugs, or watching your children rub their faces in the rugs or furniture. If those comments strike a cord, then take a look at our home, Breathless Views. This is a family owned and managed single property located on the first mountain just under two miles north of the 219 and 66 interchange. Immediately on the west side off 219 just north of the Rail Road bridge that passes over 219. We’re on the first ridge overlooking the Ski Barn and the Exxon Station on 66.
To our west we can see the Snowshoe resort as it runs along the ridge of their mountain. Our cabin’s living, dining and kitchen areas all look south through the large two story windows that almost span the width of the cabin. So we get the sun rising over Snowshoe in the morning to our east, and beautiful sunsets over the mountains to our west. And remember that in the winter the sun is lower on the southern horizon so we get great sunrises and sunsets. At night we get fantastic views of the stars in the east coast’s highest ranked, “dark area”. In the mornings we enjoy having a cappuccino and a healthy breakfast before heading for the slopes.
Our cabin has a Stone Fireplace, floor to ceiling windows, large spacious rooms, wrap-around decks, custom kitchen, 2 luxury baths and 3 spacious bedrooms including master with Jacuzzi tub for one. 1700 finished sq ft and 1000 unfinished in the basement (2700 sq ft total), lots of windows, majestic views, and a great 3 acre lot for exploration.
Use that 4 wheel drive as it was meant to be used. 4-wheel or all wheel drive is required at our cabin in winter! If you don’t own one rent one and enjoy the freedom. Arrive at our house in the day light if you can as it makes finding the place much easier and you get to take in the views. Our roads are plowed, but we strongly recommend (95% of our guests take our suggestion) that you arrive before 9 pm, that’s the last run by the plow truck and after dark the temperatures plummet refreezing anything that melted during the day. Once in the cabin you’ll find that it is much better than the pictures. Non skiers love relaxing in the home and taking in the beauty.
The base entrance to Snowshoe resort at 66 and Snowshoe Drive, is a lovely scenic 2.7 miles from the cabin. Time flies on the short drive to slopes with views similar to those on the lifts at the top of the mountain. Just drop your gang and gear slope side in 10~15 minutes via your warm vehicle, then park free (at Silver Creek and Top of the World) and meet them. By the way Snowshoe’s new back entrance further up 66 is a quick way to Top of the World. In mid winter we get lots of snow on top of what’s already on the ground. Even though Snowshoe opens on Thanksgiving, our rates remain low through December 11th!
No large groups of singles under 27 yrs please, with the exception of: extended families, kids welcome then all ages, or groups of married couples then there is no age limit!!
No Smoking and no pets!!
Check out COSTCO for low price lift tickets and check with us for discounts to our local favorite restaurant, the Elk River Inn (a lovely 5 star restaurant about 4 miles south on 219).
Further Cabin Details:
Enjoy the stone fireplace on cold nights, even from the gourmet kitchen. The kitchen features custom cabinets, a large cook-top, and incredible views, so the chef can also enjoy the ambiance. Cooking for your family becomes part of the fun and the table extends to seat 10 [please no more than 10 in this home (we recommend 6 to 8 adults with the rest children, rounding up to 10)]. Hi LeAnne! We ALL really really enjoyed our summer stay at your Snowshoe home and were so very comfortable and relaxed. My mom wasn't sure about staying so high up on a ridge but when she entered your home, she ABSOLUTELY LOVED your tastefully decorated rooms and was very pleasantly surprised that it was just her style. She wants to come back for vacation every year and so do we! The spacious open main floor plan of kitchen, living, and dining rooms is a perfect backdrop to the gorgeous and jaw dropping views seen out the enormous front windows. I can imagine the winter view to be just as spectacular as the summer view and may make the winter trip one year. We loved the porch off the kitchen/dining room....a great place to have a cup of coffee in the morning, just taking in the valley view. I woke one morning at 6am to a view of the valley covered in misty fog....THAT was quite a scene! Breathless is definitely a well fit description and time passed peacefully as we sat on the porch each day (and evening!) enjoying our visit. As I looked out the kitchen window I saw deer in the neighbor's yard, a sweet picture of wildness to add to the morning.

per her email to me... Dear LeAnne, Thank you so much for making the stay at your house in the Snowshoe area possible. The house and surroundings remind me of the quote "Almost Heaven, West Virginia." You have the perfect name for the place---Breathless Views. My whole family was awe struck when we spotted it from the base of the mountain and the excitement increased at a rapid rate as we steadily climbed up the dirt road. Words cannot even come close to expressing what goes on in the soul as every waking hour draws one to view God's creation at its finest. Without a doubt, God has given my family precious moments not just with each other, but to experience such views and know He is the Lord and Master of all. The three crosses meant sooooo much. And the neighbors, Julie and Cliff Weaver were like a special gift to us. They are a fine couple and you are blessed to have them as neighbors. I wanted to tell you too that one of my nieces didn't get to come because of a new job, however, my Uncle and his son came for one night. My Dad has emphysema and had forgotten his medication so they brought it to us. That's a total of 9 people, but only for one night. The rest of the time it was just 7 of us: Mom, Dad, Sis, her daughter and two children and myself. Everything was in order and clean upon arrival and we did our very best at leaving the house in the same condition. I broke one clear juice glass. My niece noticed a little damage in one of the screens downstairs in the basement, but I didn't see it myself. The water well did great—we did not run out of water at all. We followed the instructions at the house and hope we received a good report. On a final note, I have to say that after sharing my photos with the women at work and seeing their surprise and shock at the beauty (pictures can't really do it justice), I've been asked more than once for your Web Site. Perhaps others will follow our foot-steps right to your doorway. Thanks again. Cindy Salyers

This comment was in our Rehoboth Rental property by accident. I have cut and pasted to the correct second home. These are my guests comments: We had the most marvelous time at your wonderful house. Thank you so much. It exceeded our expectations, and the luxury was particularly appreciated after a few nights spent camping! We found it a great location and went on the Cass Railroad and to see the Radio Telescope, as well as the Cranberry Glades and the nearby waterfalls. We loved the view and watching the deer walk by the end of the deck. Our trip up the mountain was no problem. It was steep, so it was good to have been warned about it (i.e. it met our expectations!). We arrived at 8 pm and found your directions very good.
