We were two adults and two kids (8 and 2), and we absolutely loved this condo. It was so nice that it was hard to get ourselves to leave each day. It's very well thought out, nice and clean, just wonderful. If you want to impress someone by bringing them to a special place, this will do it! Highlights: The best deck ever -- The oceanfront deck was unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. It gives you a 180+ degree view of the ocean -- you actually have to get close to the edge to look over at the sand, it's that close. It's safe for kids and heavenly for grown-ups to watch the sunset, and it really feels like you have your own beach right there at your living room. Unforgettable. Living room with ocean at your feet and fresh air -- We kept the windows open most of the time, and it felt like we had the best air on earth. Big, comfy couch and TV hidden by armoire doors when you want to forget about it. Yay! Quiet bedroom -- The bedroom is spacious with a nice big closet and safe, and it's away from the sounds of the waves and wind at night. I thought I'd want an ocean view from the bedroom, but it was better to have it at the back where it's quiet. Very comfy bed! Great kitchen -- It had everything we needed and more. The cook can enjoy the view along with everyone else because of the open floor plan. We made fresh fruit smoothies every day. Stock the fridge with Maui Brewing Company Coconut Porter, and you're set! Oh yeah, and check out the Farmer's Market sore in Honokowai for the best deli and grocery deals if you like healthy food stores. It's great! A couple of really minor tips for improvement -- This condo gets an A+, 100% score on any test, so these suggestions are really minor compared to the really wonderful qualities. First, the hide-a-bed mattress on the couch was kinda thin and springy for grown-up bones, and a newer one would be great! Or, it's definitely OK for kids who can sleep anywhere comfortably. Also, the gears on the can opener don't work, but that gave us a chance to unleash our inner pioneer spirit in finding creative ways to open a can of beans! And, it's easy enough to pick up a new one for $7. But, compared to the top-to-bottom greatness of this condo, those things didn't hinder our fun. In fact, we think you will want to stay forever. Highly recommended! Thanks, Bonnie!

Your condo was fantastic. It has great views, comfortable bed, huge deck and easily the best equipped kitchen we have ever used on a vacation. You are a pleasure to deal with and the late checkout was definitely a bonus. Thanks for a great week Bonnie.

My husband & I have been coming to Maui and staying in 201 since 2006! The condo truly does feel like home! Bonnie has an amazing eye for detail and she doesn't disappoint here! When we walk through the door, we feel the weight of the world melt from our shoulders and we breathe a mutual sigh of relief!! The closet in the bedroom has ample drawers, shelves and hanging space, so it makes easy work of unpacking and stowing your luggage. The bathroom vanity also has several drawers complete with small baskets so you can put all your toiletries away, and thereby eliminate operating out of a bag of any kind, again, just like home!! The kitchen is beautiful and well appointed and the living room very comfortable, but the best feature of all is the amazing lanai!! We start on the lanai in the morning with our coffee and watch the whales, sunbathe and read during the day, and then watch the beautiful sunsets in the evening! We love walking the miles of beach (a little exercise to ease "the guilt" of being so laid back for 2 weeks!). There is plenty to do on Maui (if you want to) and over the years, we've done and seen a lot, but Maui Kai 201 makes it really easy to RELAX and do nothing at all, if that's what you want to do! Bonnie is great to work with and is close by if you need her. Our daughters have also rented from Bonnie, one honeymooned in 201, and the other celebrated an anniversary over Christmas in Bonnie's smaller, but still beautiful 202. Maui Kai isn't the biggest or newest building on the beach, but it's extremely well taken care of, and we can't imagine staying anywhere else! ALOHA!!

Well appointed unit, clean and every bit as advertised. The roof top lanai is an absolute bonus! Close proximity to grocery shopping, restaurants and the walkway make this an ideal location. We saw whales, turtles and a monk seal from our lanai so the beach front location is a bonus. Although the pool is small, the amenities in the pool area are fabulous and the area is protected when the wind picks up. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in 201 and hope to return soon!

The condo is really really nice; with great kitchen, view, furnishings; and a comfy king bed.. The deck is large -- view from the condo were wonderful. Just go down the stairs one floor and you are already outside. I think the area is very nice; convenient to Lahaina town -- restaurants you can walk to down the beach or drive very easily. Great Pub called Dollys in Kahana area for a local flavour and great pizzas. Weather was abit cool and rainy but we still enjoyed it all!! Thanks Bonnie; I am also a travel agent so I will definitely recommend your great unit; the Maui Kai is a very very sweet property; simple and quiet yet close to so much should you desire. Sincerely, Laurie and Gary

As someone who lives upcountry here on Maui, it is always enjoyable to stay down near the ocean every once in awhile. The Maui Kai property has always been my favorite as it is quiet, right on the ocean with plenty of places to eat & shop just a short walk away. This unit blows them all away! From the private large lanai to the exceptional, contemporary furnishings, this unit is a GEM! The kitchen was impressively stocked with pots, pans and dishware. Everything in the unit is in tip top condition, large comfortable bedroom & bath with great water pressure in the shower. The property's hot tub was always toasty warm! Our stay was a wonderful treat!

It is difficult to go beyond all of the 5-star reviews - THIS CONDO IS THAT GOOD! The credit goes to owner, Bonnie Chadwick. Her attention to detail, high quality, and innovation is exemplary. There’s no need to say again what others have re: the shopping, pool, beach etc. – it was wonderful. Our comments are just to add more highlights from our perspective. I am a very good cook so kitchens matter - this kitchen is outstanding: high quality modern appliances and utensils, excellent layout & top quality materials made this place a joy to cook in (study the photos). We ate most meals here because we value our privacy and treasure quiet time; over 5 days I prepared at least 12 meals plus snacks – I gave the kitchen a workout and it performed flawlessly. The bedroom is at the back of the unit, away from the ocean, with a very comfortable bed and quiet. The bathroom is large, modern, and bright. There are large closets in the bedroom and hallway so storage is not an issue. We came to Maui to relax and not see the sights so the incredibly spacious lanai was great; it allowed us to turn the lounge chairs to catch the morning sun, sit under the patio at mid-day, and turn the lounges to the west as we watched the ‘green flash’ and saluted another perfect day. The lanai also features a very large glass dining table and chairs for ‘any time’ dining. Off to one corner is a very convenient shower to rinse and cool off instead of heading inside to the bathroom. This unit is particularly large because the small lanai that most units feature has been incorporated into the interior space giving residents a great deal more space inside and a gigantic space outside. We stayed in another unit here for 5 days earlier in our vacation and while the lanai was comfortable, it can’t compare to this at all. Bonnie is warm, attentive, and close at hand should you have questions or needs. Please feel free to contact me for further information (boehler@accesscomm.ca).

If you are looking for a nice quiet place to stay in Maui, with a perfect sunset every night, then the Maui Kai is your place in paradise. But also, the condo is extra special. It has a great rooftop lanai that is perfect for morning coffee, where you can see both Lanai & Molokai, and outrigger canoes out for a morning ride. It is even better for that sunset glass of wine with the sun setting between the two islands. We even saw turtles & manta rays from the deck. Then inside the condo, it has all the comforts of home, with a well-stocked kitchen & bath. You don’t even need to bring a beach towel. Everything is there for you and the place is decorated very nice. I am very much keeping this condo at the Maui Kai in mind for my next visit to Maui. Thanks Bonnie! Mark & Elena, San Jose CA 9/2011

WOW! I just returned from an 8 day stay at Maui Kai and I am already online looking at dates to return! This unit exceeded my expectations and I truly had the best vacation of my life. After having a HORRIBLE experience with a Florida condo in September 2010, I emailed Bonnie and expressed my concerns that sometimes things aren't as they are advertised; she told me she lives 5 minutes from the condo and assured me she would make anything right that I found a problem with. I was blown away when I walked into the condo; it was immaculate, everything was as stated on the website and it was truly one-of-a-kind condo! There were days when I went from the lanai to the beach to the pool (and could have just stayed on the lanai all day). The views from the lanai were breath-taking (we saw whales and sea turtles) and the sunsets were simply amazing! Bonnie has gone out of her way to make the unit perfect! The furniture was extremely comfortable (and not that cheesy cheap beach furniture people seem to put in beach condos). The kitchen was completely stocked with everything you could possibly need. I truly could not find one thing wrong with this condo! I felt like I was home away from home (except the unit was much cleaner than my house...LOL)! Thank you Bonnie for helping create a truly memorable stay for us...this was our first "alone" vacation in four years (no kids, grandkids, dogs, sick/dying family members) and we are ready to come back!
Owner response:Aloha KIm, thank you for your great review, i am all ways pleased when my guests enjoy the condo. this is by far one of my personal favourite units!! Just can't beat the view and the roof top deck, i would spend my whole day just hanging ther myself. I hope to see you return, I have many repeat guests stay, they all love this unit!! I am happy we finally were able to get your review posted!! Mahalo! Bonnie

Let me start by saying this is a fabulous unit and you will be hard pressed to find a nicer unit for the price in Maui. The pictures and listing are 100 % accurate with the possible exception of the wi-fi Internet which the unit didn't really have. There were a number of wi-fi connections available to the unit but none seemed reliable and all had very poor performance. The Cable Modem worked well but I actually ended up buying a cheap wireless router at office max and setting that up for the week. The unit is spacious for Maui and the unit is well stocked. It could use a few smaller frying pans and some sharper knives but those are tiny nits. There were plenty of towels, dishes, extra pillows linens and really everything else you need for your stay. The unit was also immaculately clean. The property itself is an older property. (They had 40th anniversary celebration pictures and news articles in the lobby). This comes with the good and the bad. The good is that it is actually more spacious than most new units. The bad is that the building itself is showing some signs of age with some visible cracks in the walls and peeling paint on the ceiling that the private lanai looks out onto. The old cinder block construction of the building itself and the outside steps also give it a bit of a "motel" feel on the outside. It would also have been nice if there was a power outlet outside on the lanai. That's all the negative I can say. The unit itself is amazing. The views from the lanai and the living room are simply breath taking. Western facing it gives you some of the best sunsets and moonsets on the island. One of the high-points of my trip was getting a professional masseuse to come in to give me a massage while I listened to the waves crash onto the shore outside. The unit itself is pretty spacious with very comfortable couches and a comfortable bed. The unit is relatively disability friendly with the unit being close to the elevator, though navigating the entryway door before the door into the unit itself would be a bit difficult for someone wheelchair bound. The Lanai also has a step up that would benefit from a grab bar as would the shower. There is a nice supermarket right across the street so easy enough to stop there after checking into the unit. Bonnie was also a pleasure to deal with. She responded quickly and was extremely helpful. I highly recommend this unit to anyone staying in Maui.

My wife and I were blown away from the moment we opened the door of this beautiful condo. We did some sight seeing but it was always great to back to this great condo. . We felt so at home here I have to say it was the most relaxing vacation ever. The kitchen is so well equipped that we even created a few great meals and enjoyed them on the amazing roof top deck. It was our first trip to Maui and it took me months to decide where to stay. I spoke to Bonnie on the phone and knew right then and there this was the place for us, she goes above and beyond. We do plan on returning to Maui and I would not even consider staying anywhere else. . Thank you Bonnie.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful place! My husband and I rented this condo for a short 4 days in February 2010 after a vacation in New Zealand, a dream vacation in it's own. The building is wonderful, everything you need and more is here. The roof top deck was my absolute favorite for a private place to read and sun bathe ... So Relaxing... My husband and I enjoyed wonderful dinners on the deck and stared for hours watching the whales and even sea turtles from the balcony. Forward a year later, we want to return! So much so that we moved our trip out a month just so we could rent this condo. And this time we will be staying for more than 4 nights!

Bonnie, 25 years PLUS 2 weeks in paradise MINUS the kids = an unforgetable anniversary!! Thank you so much for the warm welcome and Maui Kai 201.... the champagne was so awesome to drink watching the sunset our first night here. Your place is so amazing, the views, the location, the accomodations all FIRST CLASS! We really enjoyed our time here and are soooo glad that we were able to stay 2 weeks. We can't imagine trying to so all that we did in any tme less than that. Napili and makena were our favourite beaches. We are going to miss the waves and the sunsets as we head back to chilly Ohio. We hope that we will be back in 2009, but until then we will teasure the fabulous memories at Maui Kai!

Mahalo Bonnie! We very much enjoyed our relaxing honeymoon in your beautiful condo. breakfast on the lanai, snorkeling in the ocean - we even saw a whale and monk seal! Your thoughtfulness and attention to detail were very much appreciated. We took trips to Haleakala, Kihei, Wailea, Kapalua and Lahaina and of course Whalers Village. Although we didn't dare venture the road to Hana, we have enjoyed exploring the beautiful island. Lastly, we went to the Feast at Lele last night and it was a romantic end to our stay here. We envy the fact that you live here year round and hope to return one day to your Maui Kai #201. With much thanks.

Past renters have put it well - to stay here at the Maui Kai is great! 201 was like home to us on Maui and staying here with the kids was so much nicer than staying at one of the hotels. Although it was rare to stay "in" with all the available restaurants and activities, those were some of our favorite times while watching the water and the whales and the sunsets. Thank you for the little things that were above and beyond - like the gift basket and the boogie boards & sand toys. When we return to Maui, we will definitely stay here again!

It is hard to believe our week in paradise is over. We loved our stay here at 201. We did lots of research on where to stay and it paid off! We toured kahana, Kaanapali, Makena and Wailea, and at each, we gave ourselves kudos for choosing Maui Kai. No crowds, no obstructed views, no parking problems - and an absolutely beautiful condo to call home during our stay.We enjoyed breakfast on the lanai each day, watching for the usual complete rainbow between Lanai and Molokai, then seeing the rain showers move in from the channel between Kapalua and Molokai. It never rained for more than a few minutes though and other than some pretty stout winds, weather was terrific all week.Saw many whales in the distance. Thanks for providing those great binoculars - I sent at least an hour a day with them. Thank you Bonnie, for thoughtfully stocking this condo with all the comforts of home, plus some added little luxuries that made our stay even more enjoyable. To future renters: Go north of the condo for excellent snorkeling and body surfing - Honolua Bay, Slaughter house, ect. The road to the blowhole is awesome. Our favorite beach away from the condo was Makena. Great sand, o crowds and we saw a sea turtle! Star Market has the same prices as Safeway and is less crowded. Paradiso Pizza is Okay for takeout. Canoes in Lahaina was absolutely perfect and has great sunset dinning. Avoid “Mixed Plate”. Pacific Whale Foundation was great (2 hour trip for whales) even though we only saw about 10, they were pretty close. The Road to Hana is long. My husband drove expertly, but even so, it was stressful and most waterfalls were to dry for good photos. We enjoyed the Pools, the Black Sand Beach and Lava arches and the nice Falls before Seven Sacred Pools. You can pay one park fee at the pools and get in for free to Haleakala within 3 days. The “loop” is still closed past the pools, so you have to come back the way you came. Leave enough time to get back to Paia before dark. All in all, this was the most “beautiful” vacation we’ve taken. We enjoyed it tremendously and hope to return someday soon.

We have had a delightful stay in Maui kai 201. Thank you for the welcome basket of goodies etc.. The condo is great - nicely decorated, well stocked, and has many special touches! classy china, and glassware, pillows galore, beach toys, mats, chairs a cooler etc... well done!!! We spent lots of time on the wnderful deck, relaxing, eating, whale watching. We saw whales everyday! You can't get any closer to the ocean than this. This was our first trip to Hawaii and we loved everything about it. The surf jpunding outside the window was a constant reminder wth we wer NOT in Ohio. Hopefully we will return someday to this piece of paradise...

Thanks for a wonderful month on Maui! The condo was true to your advertizing and all of the great reviews on tripadvisor were absolutely correct.. The condo was absolutely gorgeous and very comfy which made it a great home away from home. We loved the deck where we could watch the whales all day and the great sunsets - WOW!! All the little details are what set this condo apart from the rest - it was well stocked, well furnished, and well equipped. The welcome basket was a fabulous extra touch! We hope everyone enjoys Maui as much as we did in Maui Kai 201!! Mahalo Bonnie!!!!

Wow! What an amazing 10 days here in Maui. Love the condo, Bonnie doesn't miss a single detail.... couldn't have felt anymore like home! Snorkling was great! We took a trip to Molokini island with the Maui Dive Shop ( the earlier trip the better) We stopped and got to see at least a dozen turtles there - very cool! Close by, the snorkeling couldn't be any better than Black Rock. The drive to Hana was beautiful, something we won't repeat on a return trip - too much time on the car winding around. Saw tons of whales just off the roof deck. Loved shopping in Lahaina. Mama's Fishhouse is worth the drive for dinner, need reservations..a must do! Our last evening we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Roy's. The kitchen if center stage, so in addition to a great meal, you also get the dinner show! We can't wait till our next trip to Maui!! Bonnie - thanks for everything!!!

Wonderful stay in a very tastefully, comfortably decorated condo - It couldn't have suited us better! Whale watching was much better from the roof deck than on the whale Cruise. Ride to see the sunset at Haleakela was a mystical experience and not to be missed. On the other hand, the ride to Hana is a tedious, stressful 7 - 8 hr ride - didn't see the sacred pools as we had had enough by the time we reached Hana. Resturants we enjoyed were I'O, Roys and Mala ( thanks for the tips on these ones Bonnie) Look forward to a return trip and would definitely rent this condo again. Mahalo BOnnie

Dear Bonnie, This condo is outstanding. What a view of the ocean and the tastful interior has really made us feel at home. We have enjoyed every minute of your vacation thanks to this. We have seem plenty of whales passing and jumping and athe snorkeling outside the condo has been lovely. To spend X-Mas and New Years here for us Swedes had been very lovely.

Dear Bonnie, you outdid yourself furnishing your condo!! But best of all was your hospitality and friendly manner. You took responsibilty for us and for the onset of the surrounding builders which none of us expected. Thank you for accomodating our needs and being so gracious! Our welcome gift was a lovely surprize and quite delicious. the closeness to the ocean and wonderful setting of the patio make this space a gem. We also loved the heated pool and spa. Although we didn't see whales or dolphins, as others did, we hope to try again and return soon to your slice of paradise!
