This unique dwelling in the Languedoc region was built over 100 years ago by the great-grandfather of the current owner and was used until recently as a family wine cellar. The property was carefully converted into a home by your hosts. The same family has lived in this village since the 17th century.

The home is filled with interesting furniture, paintings, drawings, photos, and crafts. A terrace covered with antique tiles provides an ideal spot for outdoor meals. It overlooks the pool and gardens and has a great view of the countryside beyond. An iron lounging chair invites you to relax and take in the idyllic and restful surroundings.

The warmth of the village, the charm of the countryside, and the history of this family dwelling combined make it an ideal retreat as well as a base for exploring the many cultural and historical aspects of Languedoc. The plain unfolds through the adjacent vineyards and runs to Le Mont d'Oupia far in the distance.

Around the house, the garden abounds with a variety of flowers, trees, bushes, and a big lawn. The pool (11-metres by five-metres) is surrounded by a granite terrace and a pool house. In the orchard, almond, fig, and olive trees grow.

The village of Cesseras is not a tourist town, even though it is within a short distance of many points of interest. The village is located in the Minervois, a part of the Languedoc Roussillon region. This part of France is known for its wines, which are constantly improving in quality.

One of the latest wine labels is called La Livignière. The area is often compared to Tuscany, in Italy, because of the similarities in the regions' agro-tourism resources. Both are known for their olive groves, olive oils, a wide range of culinary treasures, vegetables, fruits, cheeses (mostly goats' cheese), and, of course, their wines.

The village of Minerve (seven kilometres from the house) was a strategic place for the Cathars and an important stopover for the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostelle in Spain during the medieval times. It was also the home of Simon de Montfort. The Fontfroide Abbey is 25 kilometres away. Carcassonne and its famous medieval castle, which has been seen in a numbers of films, has a wonderful covered market and an 18-hole golf course.

Pézenas, known as Molière's town, is the place where the famous playwright used to spend his summers away from Paris. His plays are now being performed there on a regular basis. In the town, one can find great museums, many art and antique galleries, crafts, and shops.

Further along, you can visit Le Pont du Gard, a Roman Aqueduct, and the cities of Arles and Nîmes, both graced with arenas dedicated to bullfighting also dating back to the Roman era. There is a beautiful covered market in Narbonne, which is open every day from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Many important wine cellars are scattered all around the region, and sampling is encouraged.

On the way to Béziers (20 kilometres) stop in Bizes, a small village that has the only olive cellar in the area. There you can buy many different types of olive oils, olives (black or green), numerous types of jams, crafts, soaps, and much more. Excellent restaurants abound.

Airports are located in Béziers (Vias) 50 kilometres, Toulouse (Blagnac) 140 kilometres, Montpellier (Fréjorgues/ Méditerranée) 130 kilometres, and Carcassonne (Salvaza) 45 kilometres. The high-speed train TGV can be boarded in Béziers.

An afternoon boat ride on the Canal du Midi is a must. The departure takes place in Homps, seven kilometres from the village. Returning to your port of call, please take the time to have a late afternoon drink or an al fresco dinner at one of the many restaurants right on the edge of the canal. The lake of Jouarres (seven kilometres away) is a popular destination for surfers, thanks to its strong and regular winds, while others enjoy flying their kites on the shore.

For beach lovers, the seashore of Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan are only 35 kilometres away. This is a great place for sightseeing, restaurants, and bars. Every Sunday mornings there is a terrific little market in the village of Ferrals les Montagnes, up in the mountains (15 kilometres away) where one can find lots of different types of food including bread, fish, meats, cheeses, jams, and more.
