Jasmine was built about 120 feet up the tropical hill that overlooks the beach and harbor at Great Cruz Bay. The house is nestled into a hillside garden that includes bougainvillea, hibiscus, jasmine, periwinkle and other continuously blooming tropical flowers. The gorgeous 180 degree view sweeps over Great Cruz Bay and the Caribbean to a necklace of distant Virgin Islands that include the St James Islands and a slice of St. Thomas. Jasmine faces south and west so it gets plenty of sun, and gorgeous sunsets in the early evening, and at night island lights sparkle in the distance. Jasmine is ultra convenient, being less than a 5-minute drive to the restaurants, bars, groceries and shopping in the delightful town of Cruz Bay. You should rent a jeep, but because you’re only a 5-8 minute walk down to the four star Westin Resort, with restaurants, beach bar and a taxi stand, this is one of the few villas where you could get by without a jeep.
This is an intimate 2-level, 2+-bedroom, 2 bath home with central a/c (in the upper level only) and a pool set in a tropical garden. You park on the upper level and enter into the great room with the living, dining and kitchen areas. The great room opens to a sun deck, and both have lovely views. The pool and pool deck are on the lower level, surrounded by tropical gardens.
The 3 bedrooms are all on different levels. The master bedroom/bath (king bed) is off the great room and the guest bedroom/bath with a/c (2 twins) is on the pool level and is accessed by exterior stairs. The loft third bedroom is accessible by interior stairs and contains two twin beds. In the great room a bar/countertop separates the kitchen from the living room. The living room contains honey rattan furniture that is accented by colorful rugs, lamps and artwork. The entertainment system includes a 32” flat screen cable TV with DVD and an AM/FM stereo with CD and iPod capability. You can dine inside in your cozy dining room at a table for 4-6, or dine outside on the deck at a table also seating 4-6. The kitchen is well equipped with a 4-burner electric stove, GE refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, blender, toaster and coffeemaker, cookware, server ware, utensils and attractive dinnerware for 6. About: Jasmine is one of four villas that we own in Great Cruz Bay, all with 1-2 bedrooms. The four homes are all neighbors but there’s hillside land and tropical vegetation between them, so they’re mostly hidden from each other’s views. We had planned on buying one home with 4-5 bedrooms, but we noticed that most of the 1-2 bedroom villas in Great Cruz Bay have vanished and have been replaced by 3-5 bedroom homes. So instead of buying one large house, we bought four smaller homes. Jasmine is one of the most private of the four villas and it also has a unique floor plan with 3 bedrooms located on three different levels, giving Jasmine the preferred bedroom privacy of a much larger villa.
Why Great Cruz Bay: We especially love Jasmine for its great views and the pool and deck that are neatly carved into a hillside garden. All four homes have lovely views of spectacular Caribbean sunsets, boats floating in the harbor and islands on the horizon, but we think Jasmine’s view is a little lovelier, although guests at Hawksbill, Rosebay or Periwinkle might disagree. The comments we made for Hawksbill re Cruz Bay are also true for Jasmine. We’re big fans of Cruz Bay. It’s a small Caribbean village that has a warmth, friendliness and fun personality like no other place we’ve traveled; it’s always just so delightful. The Caribbean music and liveliness is the essence of the welcoming and fun loving Caribbean spirit. So we really wanted to be located close to Cruz Bay, without actually being in the town itself. Instead we’re about 5 minutes away on a quiet hillside overlooking a much quieter and more tranquil harbor – it’s the best of both worlds
The Unique Benefits at this Villa: As we’ve mentioned, there is one thing that certainly makes Jasmine unique. Jasmine is one of a family of four villas, all within an easy walk but all pretty much concealed from view from the others. For couples and families you can have togetherness when you want it, and privacy when you need it. Jasmine’s pool is also certainly unique, located in a hillside setting surrounded by flowering plants and palm trees. Although one and two bedroom villas are not unique in this preferred neighborhood of premium villas, they certainly are becoming quite scarce. As we said for Hawksbill, with the harbor views, sunsets, privacy, convenience and affordability, this is a pretty neat package.
