Alberta Arts District house description
The perfect house for family or friends, centrally located in the perfect Portland neighborhood. Diverse, rich in culture, excellent food and drink, on transit lines and totally walkable, you won't even need a car here...but we have off-street parking if you do.
You may not host events including more than twelve people here.
Awesome clean beds and pillows, and a clean, comfortable, well appointed, great-smelling house in a vibrant neighborhood..with central air! We LOVE to make our guests have the vacation or short term stay they want.
We may negotiate rates if certain dates are not booked, or for a smaller party (2-4).
This is an urban neighborhood. It's diverse. Most, but not all, of the houses have been restored. You may encounter a panhandler or people with petitions. If these things alarm you, it's not for you. You may want to look in Irvington or in the suburbs. For us, there's everything to love about the Alberta Arts district. Creative and cool, friendly neighbors, fabulous food, flat, walkable, and bikeable. We have Alberta's 'Last Thursday': the divine arts fair on the last Thursday of every month, when they close the whole street and the artsy spirit of PDX is in full bloom... Fall in love with Portland here.
We restored this 1970's ranch in 2012 to give it a geometric, clean, inviting style. Everything in it is new: furniture and appliances (except the fridge). Quiet, solid bamboo floors run throughout the house, and every appliance is Energy Star. The front porch is a great place to watch the neighborhood walk by, and the big back yard has a beautiful gazebo.
We have free parking (up to three cars can fit on the driveway, but you'd better know who's leaving first : ) Free wifi. Dish Network. Fully equipped kitchen with such staples as sugar, spices, and oil. A private code for each party in the internet-controlled locks. Two bikes. A charcoal barbecue grill.
It's SUPER important that you realize how much we value the quiet and peace of our neighbors. Quiet hours are 10PM to 8AM.
Public transit is just half a block away!

Let me start with a review on the house itself, the house was wonderful, full 4 bdr, 2 bath, so much space! It had open concept which was great, everyting was modern and well stocked. It was nice that it had a keyless entry so we did not have to worry about everyone having a key on them. I love that the house had a modern/retro feel to it, just beautiful. I wish we were there in spring or summer because it had a lovely backyard with a great gazebo for lounging and a garden. We were tgher during christmas and Amy actually had the home decorated for the holidays including a christmas tree! Which we were so excited about so we decided to host christmas brunch there which was roomy enough for 12 people. All the bedrooms were quite comfortable, again all well stockes with the baths. The heater did go out our first night and was a bit chilly but she brought over two large heaters which worked great, thank you again for that! We knew there were two bikes in the shed, sadly we did not get to use them on this triip. The neighborhood could not have been better we were within four houses to Alberts st, which is where all the restaurants and shops are, right on the cornere is The Tin Shed which was featured on Food Network along with Pine st biscuit, again could not ask for a better location. So much to do there! A larger market is maybe a mile away for larger items, also downtown was only a five minute drive, if that, which was so convenient. There is a mall maybe a mile or so aw where we caught the train to see other areas, but really everyting is walking distance to this home. Try petit provence! Maybe three blocks and kennedy school all within walking and biking distance, again perfect location! We went to zoo lights again, maybe five miles from house.. I hope to go back again this time in the summer to enjoy the garden! This is perfect for families, singles, really anyone.

Owner response: Thanks Carmen, great advice in this review! I am so pleased that your Christmas family holiday was a success, and we look forward to hosting you again when it's warm and sunny. And if it gets TOO warm and sunny, the house has air conditioning. I love all the places you mentioned. Love Petite Provence, the Tin Shed on the corner, (with the Spicy Passion - a vodka drink with passion fruit and jalapeño!) Fuel Cafe on the other corner of our street has great breakfasts too. Thanks so much, see you soon!
Great location and house!
Great location and house!
This house was a perfect fit for our family (my husband and I, baby, and 2 older kids) - it's at a great location in the Alberta Arts district, was spacious enough for us (kids could each have their own bedroom, and there are 2 rooms in the back adjoined by a common bathroom), was very comfy and clean, and kids liked the ability to get wifi/hulu/play ipods via the receiver. While we spent time in other parts of the city too, we really liked that it was within walking district of many great restaurants and shops - including the ever-popular Salt & Straw (easy access to the line), amazing coffee, a record store, and Grain & Gristle. The owner, Amy, gave us a great info sheet about the surrounding businesses and was very responsive to our questions. We hope to come back to this house when we are in Portland again next summer, and I'm sure it will be even more enjoyable when the back patio is done. Thanks!!

Owner response: Thank you so much Aarthi; and thank you for being excellent guests. Everyone raves about the Salt and Strawn ice cream shop....I'll have to go! We're working on the patio this week; pavers going in today, so you'll have that to enjoy next summer. We think we need to put a canopy of some kind - it can get hot on the west side of the house. We look forward to your return visit, thank you!
Perfect Place to Stay!
Perfect Place to Stay!
This is a great place to stay. I stayed here with my parents, husband, and 22 month old son. House worked well accommodating all of us. Great place to bring your child to. House had toys for him to play with, and a pool to splash around in on the hot summer day. House stayed cool in the hot temps with the a/c! Walking distance to great places to eat. Public park is only a 5 min drive or 1+ mile walk (one way).

About the owner: Hi, I'm Amy. We've been in Oregon 17 years and we love it! We live in a suburb just south of Portland and have two teenaged sons. We bought this house in 2011, gutted it, outfitted it with the greenest solutions we could (solid bamboo floors with a quiet layer of insulation underneath, Energy Star heat and A/C, high efficiency appliances. We love to spend the night here too!
Why the Owner Chose Alberta Arts District:
If you know Portland, you know this is the spot. It's diverse, colorful, safe, friendly and fun. You can walk to either corner in the morning for an awesome cup from Fuel Cafe or Extracto, spend a great day in and around Portland, and at night, amble home from the Tin Shed or any number of other establishments within walking distance.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We chose this property for its location. The house is not grand, or deluxe, but it is super inviting with its clean lines and beautiful finishes in the kitchen. We followed that aesthetic in remodeling the front patio with geometric blue stone path and patio, and a trellis. The back yard is now landscaped with a covered patio.
