Albany Court is a delightful apartment situated in-between the Royal Family's residence, Buckingham Palace, and The Houses of Parliament. This is a one-bedroomed apartment with US king bed, and an additional murphy wall bed (in the living room), directly opposite St James's Park tube station!

Albany Court is on the 1st floor and has an elevator. Located on the corner of Palmer Street and Petty France (please see the street map link below), it's situated in one of London's most prestigious neighbourhoods - the regal and historical district of Saint James's Park, beside Mayfair.

Why not take a Royal stroll alongside your London home? Saint James's Park is a magnificent sweep of open lawns, trees, and gardens with a lake at its very heart!

Once you've crossed the park, you'll arrive at the Mall - a broad open avenue that runs between Trafalgar Square, London's Theatreland, and Buckingham Palace. You'll notice Trafalgar Square and Admiralty Arch on the right, with Buckingham Palace on the left. The Mall is lined with many stately buildings.

Check to see if the "Royal Standard", the Queen's flag is flying outside Buckingham Palace - this means she's at home!

Catch the Changing of the Guards or visit the state rooms of Buckingham Palace itself or the state carriages and splendid horses at the Royal Mews.

Check the London Tourist Board's website to see what's happening (the Queen's Birthday, Lord Mayor Show, etc.). Albany Court will give you an advantage when all these events are on, as you're so close to all the action!

To the right of Albany Court are the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames and Westminster Abbey. You can literally adjust your wristwatch to Big Ben within two minutes of leaving Albany Court. At the Houses of Parliament, visit the House of Lords, House of Commons, and the "Strangers' Galleries."

Westminster Abbey is the ceremonial site of almost every British coronation from William the Conqueror in 1066 to Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Monarchs buried here include Henry VII, Elizabeth I, and Mary, Queen of Scots. Nearby is the Tomb to the Unknown Warrior and Poet's Corner, the resting place of Chaucer, Robert Browning, and Alfred Tennyson among others. Number Ten Downing Street, the Prime Minister's office, is also nearby.

The River Thames is besides the Houses of Parliament. At Westminster Pier, catch a boat to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Tate Modern art gallery, Saint Paul's Cathedral, and Greenwich to visit its Maritime Museum and Observatory. Alternatively, visit the London Eye, London Aquarium, and South Bank Arts Centre just a walk over Westminster Bridge.

You will also be surrounded by London's greatest art collections: The Royal Academy (home to Constable, Gainsborough, etc.), Tate Britain (Hockney, Turner, and British art from the 1500s onwards), The National Gallery (Van Gogh, Monet, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Goya, and Rembrandt), or take a Damien Hirst-designed boat to the Tate Modern (Dali, Picasso, Mattisse, Munch, Pollock, Lichtenstin, etc.).

For some shopping therapy, visit Pall Mall, Picadilly Circus, Regent Street, Oxford Street, or New Bond Street. Foodies will love Fortnum and Mason's food hall. To stock up on general groceries go to Sainsbury's supermarket on Victoria Street just round the corner (only 100 metres away), the largest supermarket in Central London and opposite Westminster Cathedral!

Unbelievably, Saint James's Park tube station is RIGHT BESIDE Albany Court. This is extremely convenient for all, particularly those travelling to/from Heathrow Airport.

Gatwick Airport travellers just take the Gatwick Express train to/from Victoria Train Station, which is just at the end of Victoria Street and literally a five-minute taxi journey.

The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, gas hob, electric oven and brand new Bosch washer/dryer.

The bathroom has natural light and a heated towel rail. The entire flat is bathed in sunlight as the ceilings are very high and it benefits from both south and west aspects.

There's a telephone with answering service, as well as high speed ADSL Broadband Internet Access and a brand new Philips LCD TV and Sony multi-regional DVD/CD Player, so bring your DVD collection. The TV benefits from digital freeview so expect more than the normal 5 terrestial channels, you'll have hundreds!

Rent with confidence from owners with six years' experience of accomodating VRBO-ers.

Albany Court is waiting to offer you a truly ROYAL experience!

Wonderful location, comfortable flat

Guest: Anne B.
Date of Stay: 11/14/11 Review Submitted: 12/28/11

Myself, my husband and adult son stayed here for a week in November 2011. I was born and raised in central London and was blown away by the location of this flat - so many major attractions within easy walking distance - we even got a close up look at the Queen ! The location is also very convenient to tube, restaurants, pubs, and beautiful parks. The flat itself was clean, spacious, bright and comfortable. My son is 6' 2" and was fine sleeping in the murphy bed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is really more like a 2 bedroom flat as we could close the living room door and he had his own space. The kitchen was small but nice and included everything necessary for cooking, even some tea bags and other basic items, and it was great to have the washer/dryer available. One note about the owner - we flew over from the US due to a family emergency so booked the flat at the last minute. Anita was extremely kind and helpful to us, going out of her way to help me figure out accomodations with just a couple of days advance notice. She also checked in with us offering help before and during our stay. Her kindness made a difficult situation a bit easier to cope with.

Owner response:... and I'd be there to help you out again in a heartbeat. A x

Wonderful and memorable London experience!

My 14 year old son and I recently returned from our European vacation with our last leg in London. Of all the things we did, we truly enjoyed having our convenient and lovely flat as our home base for 6 days. It made seeing all the sights of London easy and in most cases just a short walk away. The flat was exactly as described and is almost like a two bedroom flat rather than a one bedroom since the door to the living room can be closed. Anita was very helpful and the flat does have all sorts of useful information. We have already recommended this to friends and when we get the chance to come back will stay here again. One of our favorite memories was attending Evensong services at Westminster Abbey - absolutely beautiful, inspiring and moving and literally a five minute walk from the flat. Shopping for groceries was very easy and the store below the flat had any last minute item you might need. We loved our time in London-thank you, Anita!

Wonderful apartment!

Date of Stay: 05/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/14/11

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! We stayed for a week with our 2 children, ages 3 and 7, while visiting my brother, who lives not too far away. The location was ideal- we walked to St James Park often to romp at the end of our sightseeing, and were literally steps from the tube stop. A grocery is nearby, and many places to eat are within a few blocks. We were so centrally located that we walked most places, despite the convenient location of the tube stop next door. We chose this apartment based on its great central location and close proximity to my brother's place, but were delighted to find that the apartment itself was even better than stated. Most importantly, it was spotless. Really clean. And we saw the cleaning woman scrubbing as we dropped our bags off, and her attention to detail was excellent. We travel often with our small children, and frequently stay in VRBO rentals- and I usually clean the bathroom and kitchen before we all settle in for our stay. There was no need for this here- the dishes were clean, bathroom clean, and floor shiny. The bedroom has a truly giant, comfortable bed (even by US standards). The living room is separated by a small hallway, and has a Murphy- type wall bed and a leather couch. My very tall 7 year old fit just fine on the couch, but a larger person might not. The Murphy bed seemed like a typical single. There was also an air mattress in the closet that the cleaning woman offered to make up for us, if you have a child that might not fit on the couch. The kitchen was small and complete- a nice separate room with a washer/ dryer combo and everything we needed for dinner when the kids were too tired to go out. There is a little bit of street noise- after all, you are in the center of London. A fan was thoughtfully provided that gave us some background noise, and none of us were bothered a bit. The outside of the building is a bit industrial appearing- don't let that bother you, the apartment itself is clean and comfortable. Anita was wonderful to work with- everything went as advertised. Overall, we feel lucky to have found this gem in the center of London, and we will definitely come back!

Great location

Date of Stay: 05/28/11 Review Submitted: 06/14/11

My wife and I recently returned from a week and a half in London having stayed at Albany Court. We could not have been more pleased. The flat was everything it was advertised to be...clean, bright, quiet, secure and CONVENIENT. It's location is its biggest draw. Not only are you minutes from major sights like Westminster Abbey, Parliament and Buckingham Palace, among other things, but the St. Jame's Park tube station is right next door opening all of London to you. There are plenty of places to eat and Sainsbury's market is minutes away if you so wish. It was great to eat breakfast in, go out for the day and grab a light supper if you didn't want to eat out all the time. I'd like to see a hotel offer all that. WiFi made it possible to easily plan the day. Congratulations Anita and Dom for a wonderful experience.

Perfect Location - My Home Away from Home

Guest: ItsLillie (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 04/28/11 Review Submitted: 05/09/11

A short time ago (as a matter of fact, I'm composing this while waiting for my flight at Heathrow) I concluded my fourth stay at Albany Court. I'll never stay anywhere else. The flat is comfortable, and clean, and ideal for a holiday stay. It's situated between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, and adjacent to St James Park. And steps away from the St James Park underground. I love the good selection of pubs, restaurants, and shops within close walking distance. There's even a bicycle rental spot about 100 yards away. By coincidence, I happen to be here for the Royal Wedding. Not willing to fight the crowds, I stayed in and watched it on the telly - but with the glorious weather we had that day, I had the windows open, and could hear the bells ringing at the Westminster Abbey, and the crowds cheering at Buckingham Palace. I even heard the 'fly over' As with my previous stays, the owners Anita and Dom were a delight to work with, and helpful in making my stay comfortable and brilliant! Cheers to you both! See you next year!!! -Lillie

Stay here with confidence

Everything was as advertised, very neat and clean as you would like. Anita was wonderful and her prompt replies to every e-mail was exceptional. St.James Park just a short walk from the flat is a treasure and don't cheat yourself, spend some quality time there you won't be disappointed. Just opposite the park is Buckingham Palace, very cool indeed. I had my morning stroll there nearly every day nice photo ops. I have to say that along with the park and the palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament along with the Horse Guards provide enough thrills to fill a day or two and ALL a stones throw from your flat. The tube, St James Park Station is at your door step however we discovered using the buses was much more enjoyable as we were able to see the people out and about along with all the activities that were happening right before our eyes, a great way to navigate the city try it out. The Pub across the street is not an issue as far as any noise or routiness is concerned. We spent ten wonderful days in London near the end of Sept and into Oct 2010 and suggest you take advantage of the very reasonable rates and excellent location.

This is a very well located apartment for public transportation and shopping and is within walking distance to all the major tourist attractions in central London. The apartment is private and very secure. It has a good layout with high ceilings and a pleasant decor. The separate kitchen is bright and well equiped. There is a spacious bathroom and plenty of cupboard space. The flat provides good value for a most pleasant stay in London.

Wish we were still there!

We found this apartment to have all of our requirements for a ten day stay in London. Clean with a King-sized bed. Free wi-fi. Washer/dryer. In addition to those, we were very happy with the location. So near to everything and steps away from a tube station that took us off to Paddington, Kensington etc.The owner was easy to work with and she provides lots and lots of good information. We are already thinking about when we can go back to Albany Court. Keep in mind that in the UK, they use the term ground floor and then first floor. So this being a first floor apartment means it is above the ground floor. Here in the US, we would call it "second floor". (There is a lift).

The Albany Court apartment was central to everything. We were able to walk to St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, Victoria Station. All of the sights on our itinerary were either within walking distance or via a short tube ride. The flat was also convenient to grocery shopping, restaurants, and pubs. The kitchen was nice for preparing a light meal and for coffee or tea. We would definitely recommend!

First Rate: Central, Safe and Spacious!

Guest: midge255 (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada)
Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/22/10

My wife, 18 year old daughter and I stayed at Albany Court for two weeks this July; accessibility to the Tube ( right next to apt) and therefore the trains, made day travel to various cities and towns throughout England a delight. The apartment is spacious and has all the amenities listed in the brief. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is spectacular as it is within walking distance of Buckingham, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and St James' Park. Walking accross St James takes you to the West End and the National Gallery and Whitehall, if you feel inclined. A 30 minute walk to Hyde Park and Marble Arch. Because the apartment is in a office building area ( Scotland Yard, and Ministry of Justice), the area is very quiet on weekends and during the evenings. As described, access to grocery store and restaurants is within an easy 10 minute walk. We used the apartment as a home base over the two weeks and took 6 day trips to various locations all within a 60 minute train commute; this was a terrific way to travel, see great sights and be home evenings to unwind with a glass of wine - by the way, the variety store directly below the apartment has a great stock of wine and beer! We could not have been more pleased with our accommodation in London and would happily return to Albany Court.
