Wonderful location, comfortable flat

Guest: Anne B.
Date of Stay: 11/14/11 Review Submitted: 12/28/11

Myself, my husband and adult son stayed here for a week in November 2011. I was born and raised in central London and was blown away by the location of this flat - so many major attractions within easy walking distance - we even got a close up look at the Queen ! The location is also very convenient to tube, restaurants, pubs, and beautiful parks. The flat itself was clean, spacious, bright and comfortable. My son is 6' 2" and was fine sleeping in the murphy bed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is really more like a 2 bedroom flat as we could close the living room door and he had his own space. The kitchen was small but nice and included everything necessary for cooking, even some tea bags and other basic items, and it was great to have the washer/dryer available. One note about the owner - we flew over from the US due to a family emergency so booked the flat at the last minute. Anita was extremely kind and helpful to us, going out of her way to help me figure out accomodations with just a couple of days advance notice. She also checked in with us offering help before and during our stay. Her kindness made a difficult situation a bit easier to cope with.

Owner response:... and I'd be there to help you out again in a heartbeat. A x

My wife and I recently returned from a week and a half in London having stayed at Albany Court. We could not have been more pleased. The flat was everything it was advertised to be...clean, bright, quiet, secure and CONVENIENT. It's location is its biggest draw. Not only are you minutes from major sights like Westminster Abbey, Parliament and Buckingham Palace, among other things, but the St. Jame's Park tube station is right next door opening all of London to you. There are plenty of places to eat and Sainsbury's market is minutes away if you so wish. It was great to eat breakfast in, go out for the day and grab a light supper if you didn't want to eat out all the time. I'd like to see a hotel offer all that. WiFi made it possible to easily plan the day. Congratulations Anita and Dom for a wonderful experience.

Wonderful apartment!

Guest: Family of 4 (Midwest US)
Date of Stay: 05/09/11 Review Submitted: 07/14/11

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! We stayed for a week with our 2 children, ages 3 and 7, while visiting my brother, who lives not too far away. The location was ideal- we walked to St James Park often to romp at the end of our sightseeing, and were literally steps from the tube stop. A grocery is nearby, and many places to eat are within a few blocks. We were so centrally located that we walked most places, despite the convenient location of the tube stop next door. We chose this apartment based on its great central location and close proximity to my brother's place, but were delighted to find that the apartment itself was even better than stated. Most importantly, it was spotless. Really clean. And we saw the cleaning woman scrubbing as we dropped our bags off, and her attention to detail was excellent. We travel often with our small children, and frequently stay in VRBO rentals- and I usually clean the bathroom and kitchen before we all settle in for our stay. There was no need for this here- the dishes were clean, bathroom clean, and floor shiny. The bedroom has a truly giant, comfortable bed (even by US standards). The living room is separated by a small hallway, and has a Murphy- type wall bed and a leather couch. My very tall 7 year old fit just fine on the couch, but a larger person might not. The Murphy bed seemed like a typical single. There was also an air mattress in the closet that the cleaning woman offered to make up for us, if you have a child that might not fit on the couch. The kitchen was small and complete- a nice separate room with a washer/ dryer combo and everything we needed for dinner when the kids were too tired to go out. There is a little bit of street noise- after all, you are in the center of London. A fan was thoughtfully provided that gave us some background noise, and none of us were bothered a bit. The outside of the building is a bit industrial appearing- don't let that bother you, the apartment itself is clean and comfortable. Anita was wonderful to work with- everything went as advertised. Overall, we feel lucky to have found this gem in the center of London, and we will definitely come back!

Perfect Location - My Home Away from Home

Date of Stay: 04/28/11 Review Submitted: 05/09/11

A short time ago (as a matter of fact, I'm composing this while waiting for my flight at Heathrow) I concluded my fourth stay at Albany Court. I'll never stay anywhere else. The flat is comfortable, and clean, and ideal for a holiday stay. It's situated between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, and adjacent to St James Park. And steps away from the St James Park underground. I love the good selection of pubs, restaurants, and shops within close walking distance. There's even a bicycle rental spot about 100 yards away. By coincidence, I happen to be here for the Royal Wedding. Not willing to fight the crowds, I stayed in and watched it on the telly - but with the glorious weather we had that day, I had the windows open, and could hear the bells ringing at the Westminster Abbey, and the crowds cheering at Buckingham Palace. I even heard the 'fly over' As with my previous stays, the owners Anita and Dom were a delight to work with, and helpful in making my stay comfortable and brilliant! Cheers to you both! See you next year!!! -Lillie

This is a very well located apartment for public transportation and shopping and is within walking distance to all the major tourist attractions in central London. The apartment is private and very secure. It has a good layout with high ceilings and a pleasant decor. The separate kitchen is bright and well equiped. There is a spacious bathroom and plenty of cupboard space. The flat provides good value for a most pleasant stay in London.

We found this apartment to have all of our requirements for a ten day stay in London. Clean with a King-sized bed. Free wi-fi. Washer/dryer. In addition to those, we were very happy with the location. So near to everything and steps away from a tube station that took us off to Paddington, Kensington etc.The owner was easy to work with and she provides lots and lots of good information. We are already thinking about when we can go back to Albany Court. Keep in mind that in the UK, they use the term ground floor and then first floor. So this being a first floor apartment means it is above the ground floor. Here in the US, we would call it "second floor". (There is a lift).

The Albany Court apartment was central to everything. We were able to walk to St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, Victoria Station. All of the sights on our itinerary were either within walking distance or via a short tube ride. The flat was also convenient to grocery shopping, restaurants, and pubs. The kitchen was nice for preparing a light meal and for coffee or tea. We would definitely recommend!

Everything was as advertised, very neat and clean as you would like. Anita was wonderful and her prompt replies to every e-mail was exceptional. St.James Park just a short walk from the flat is a treasure and don't cheat yourself, spend some quality time there you won't be disappointed. Just opposite the park is Buckingham Palace, very cool indeed. I had my morning stroll there nearly every day nice photo ops. I have to say that along with the park and the palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament along with the Horse Guards provide enough thrills to fill a day or two and ALL a stones throw from your flat. The tube, St James Park Station is at your door step however we discovered using the buses was much more enjoyable as we were able to see the people out and about along with all the activities that were happening right before our eyes, a great way to navigate the city try it out. The Pub across the street is not an issue as far as any noise or routiness is concerned. We spent ten wonderful days in London near the end of Sept and into Oct 2010 and suggest you take advantage of the very reasonable rates and excellent location.

First Rate: Central, Safe and Spacious!

Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/22/10

My wife, 18 year old daughter and I stayed at Albany Court for two weeks this July; accessibility to the Tube ( right next to apt) and therefore the trains, made day travel to various cities and towns throughout England a delight. The apartment is spacious and has all the amenities listed in the brief. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is spectacular as it is within walking distance of Buckingham, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and St James' Park. Walking accross St James takes you to the West End and the National Gallery and Whitehall, if you feel inclined. A 30 minute walk to Hyde Park and Marble Arch. Because the apartment is in a office building area ( Scotland Yard, and Ministry of Justice), the area is very quiet on weekends and during the evenings. As described, access to grocery store and restaurants is within an easy 10 minute walk. We used the apartment as a home base over the two weeks and took 6 day trips to various locations all within a 60 minute train commute; this was a terrific way to travel, see great sights and be home evenings to unwind with a glass of wine - by the way, the variety store directly below the apartment has a great stock of wine and beer! We could not have been more pleased with our accommodation in London and would happily return to Albany Court.

Outstanding Apartment in Perfect Location

Guest: USTraveler (Abington, PA - USA)
Date of Stay: 07/05/10 Review Submitted: 07/20/10

This self-catering apartment is close to pretty much everything; Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, The London Eye, The Globe Theater, Hyde Park, St. James Park, Trafalgar Square, Cecil Court, The Theater District, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, South Bank, etc. It included everything we needed to set up shop for a week, and was actually bigger than shown in the pictures. The apartment was spotlessly clean, and the owner promptly answered all communications. The apartment, in all respects, lived up to its billing. We had a wonderful week in London, thanks in no small measure to the wonderful location of the apartment.

Date of Stay: 06/28/10 Review Submitted: 07/17/11

My 14 year old son and I recently returned from our European vacation with our last leg in London. Of all the things we did, we truly enjoyed having our convenient and lovely flat as our home base for 6 days. It made seeing all the sights of London easy and in most cases just a short walk away. The flat was exactly as described and is almost like a two bedroom flat rather than a one bedroom since the door to the living room can be closed. Anita was very helpful and the flat does have all sorts of useful information. We have already recommended this to friends and when we get the chance to come back will stay here again. One of our favorite memories was attending Evensong services at Westminster Abbey - absolutely beautiful, inspiring and moving and literally a five minute walk from the flat. Shopping for groceries was very easy and the store below the flat had any last minute item you might need. We loved our time in London-thank you, Anita!

Location, Location, Location!!!

Date of Stay: 06/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/19/10

We stayed at Albany Court for 10 days in late June 2010. You simply can't find a better location to explore the sights. You are a five minute walk from everything from Buck House to the west to Westminster Abbey to the east. It's an easy walk as well north across St James' Park to all of the shopping in Piccadilly and St James as well as Mayfair. You are a 45 second walk to St James tube stop, so the rest of the City is but a tube ride away. I relied on all of the great comments here on VRBO concerning Anita, the owner, and she is as fabulous as advertised. We had a small challenge with the flat one morning, and she was immediately available via email to rectify the problem to our complete satisfaction. American travelers should be prepared for a typically English flat in terms of amenities. The key to this flat is location and all that brings...don't expect The Connaught or Claridge's. The money you'll save by leasing here you can spend on cocktails at either hotel! What's so incredible about Albany Court for fussy Americans is 1) a washer/dryer 2) a Sainsbury's an 8 minute walk away on Victoria Street (the fridge is college-size and if you are using it for more than milk for tea you'll need to hit the market more frequently that we do at home) and 3) (for me at least) wi-fi. The kids can have their iPad Touch and you your iPad! We had our 12 and 8 year old sons with us...one slept on the Murphy bed and the other on the sofa in the living room. It worked very well. Again, can't beat the price for a family of four...but beware, the sofa is best for under 10...it's not full length...more of a love seat. One final tip: Albany Court is surrounded by government offices, which makes for a VERY quiet area on the weekends. It's much busier weekdays. Nothing wrong with this, but be aware that the Adam & Eve pub directly across form the flat is closed on Sat & Sun. Most pubs close on Sunday @6pm, so plan accordingly. Sainsbury's closes early-ish on Sunday as well. Sunday is a great day for tea @ 4pm and then you are good for the evening!

The Best Location

Guest: Anne (North Tustin, California, USA)
Date of Stay: 06/10/10 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

This was an ideal apartment for our family of three. It is only about a 100 feet from the St. James Tube yet it is unusally quiet for an urban apartment. We expected a lot of noise from the pub across the way during the World Cup games, yet it was surprisingly quiet. It was also a nice surprise that it was walking distance to see Billy Elliot. It made for a wonderful evening of theater. St. James Park is also good for an evening stroll. Check out Londonwalks.com. They have numerous fun walking tours around London many of which are around the apartment area. We would definitely stay here again on a another visit to London. Being tall, it was a nice surprise to have a large bed...this used to never be the case in Europe. We would definitely stay in the apartment again.

The owners were wonderful. I loved the location and cleanliness of this apartment. We found it to be spacious with plenty of light. It was a quiet building, you don't hear noise from the neighbors. Upon arrival we dropped off our bags and went walking. Within minutes we were at the River Thames where we saw the house of Parliament and Big Ben, we walked past Number 10, up to Trafalgar Square. We walked all over from this apartment. In fact for two full days we never even took the tube, which is just next door! I appreciated having so much nearby like restaurants and shopping. Pizza Express came in handy one night and the large, nearby Sainsbury's market was convenient. It was great to make our own organic coffee and breakfast every morning. We enjoyed having late night tea and dessert at the hotel around the corner too. Wish we were there right now!

When booking this apartment, we were looking for a familar area to operate from. We had stayed in the same area once before and liked the area. The convience of the tube stop, the grocery store, and most of all everything was within walking distance. We could come back to the apartment and rest and then we could go out again. The park was close as was Starbucks (across the street}. I wanted a place that I could go out at night and take pictures without worring about anything. This apartment was just right, safe area. The apartment had everything you needed, fans, washer, dryer, fridge, stove, microwave, and coversion plugs. Our 14 year old grandson went with us and the fold down bed worked good for him. The next time we go to London we would stay here. The discription was accurate for this property. There was nothing misleading, it really is between Buckingham Palace and Big Ben. And both are close walking distances.

Great Location

Guest: mike and gretchen (Richmond, VA, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/15/10 Review Submitted: 07/10/10

The location is great, near tube, Victoria rail station, lots of sites. Room was fine. We had trouble (no hot water and/or very dirty waster) with the building's hot water system the first couple of days which was annoying. The owners key policy was also an issue. You deposit 100 pounds to get key but are not supposed to leave it when you leave, instead must mail it back. We're still waiting for the return of the deposit 2 months later and the mailing of the key from the USA is expensive.

Owner response:Hi Mike, Glad you liked the location and the apartment. Yes, I did call me around 6.30 am on a Sunday morning (your second day) about the hot water, I reassured you that within an hour over the weekend you'd have hot water (which you did). A communal boiler services the entire building of apartments and it is set to start heating just that little bit later than on weekday mornings. The damage deposit is not just for the keys but for the phone bill (which takes about a month to come in) plus the apartment condition. There's another set of keys at the apartment which can be used if you post the keys from the post office across the road (Caxton Street), just two minute's walk away. Most guests do this. It eliminates the need to fill in a customs form in the U.S. which unfortunately you filled in incorrectly - this was the reason why your package was returned to the U.S. by U.K. customs and why we are still awaiting the return of the keys. In my first email to any guest, we write: "Please note that the proprietor of the property does not live at the apartment nor in the block, therefore we like to send you keys beforehand. We post the keys via signed-for mail and just request you do the same when you leave (from your home country if you prefer)." Therefore, before you book the apartment, our key policy is explained and the option to return from the UK also suggested.

Guest: Jill (Colorado US)

We had three people on our stay, 1 couple and 1 single (me) and it worked perfectly! I though that I was going to be “stuck” on the Murphy bed. Much to my surprise it was very comfortable and I slept very well. The apartment was clean, well maintained, and close to everything! The location was perfect. We arrived via the train from Scotland, caught the tube at Kings Cross, hopped off the tube station with our luggage and only had to walk a few yards to the apartment! We couldn’t believe it! We experience the same with the trip to Heathrow airport, just hopped on the tube to get there. There are plenty of amenities very close by, including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Starbucks (right across the street) and many pubs/cafes too. Anita and Dominique were great to work with and were very prompt with keys and deposit refunds. We enjoyed the apartment. I would recommend this property to friends and I am looking forward to staying there again on my next trip to the UK.

I've just returned from my third stay at Albany Court

Date of Stay: 04/25/10 Review Submitted: 05/12/10

I've just returned from London, after spending 15 days in this wonderful and comfortable flat. The flat was spotless, as it had been for my previous two visits. The location is perfect, and the St James Park is just around the corner. Situated next door to the St. James's Park underground, and a two minute walk from Victoria Street for the buses, getting around by public transportation is a breeze. There are numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs within 2-3 minute walk, and the large Sainsbury's grocery store, as well as numerous other retail shops, are located within a 5 minute walk. Directly below the flat there is a convenience store, which is open late, and is ideal for popping down to pick up a newspaper, or purchase snacks, or any immediate necessities. The area is safe (New Scotland Yard is just around the corner), and quiet at night as well as the weekends. The owners are very accommodating, warm and friend, and truly lovely to work with. I'm already looking forward to my next stay!

Owner response:Thanks for your kind words, Lillie, we always aim to please. See you next year, A x

Lots of Pubs in the area. Attentive owner who allows plenty of privacy. Clean with all the modern conveniences. I'd give it an excellent, but the bed mattress was a little thin.

I was pleasantly surprised that the Murphy bed - although in the living room - could be closed off as a separate sleeping area too (perfect for a 13 year old). Anita was also great to work with. We would definitely stay at Albany Court again.

Grocery stores are a short walk away. St. James's Park (which is wonderful by the way) is right there. Just a really great location. The flat itself is nice and the ability to cook when you want and to run some laundry in the flat while you're out sight-seeing is very helpful. We had a great time and would highly recommend this flat to others.

My husband and I stayed at this apartment for a week on vacation with my in-laws. This apt exceeded my expectations. All apts claim to be in a great location but this one truly was in a great location. It's close to most tourist spots; the tube station is really next door (and no you don't hear the noise). There's a convenience store in the ground floor of the building. The grocery store is less than 5 mins walk. The apartment must have been renovated in the not too distant past. It had lots of storage space. Even though it's only one bedroom, there is a hallway that separates the living room, kitchen and bathroom. So this apt was as good as two bedrooms. The bathroom is spacious; the towel warmer adds that extra touch. The wireless internet access is invaluable. The apt has little things of great convenience like tour books, reataurant guides, umbrella and even plug adapters to work with appliances from different countries. The owner has extra-ordinary patience and is great to work with. Highly recommended. Advice to guests: Front-loading washer doesn't dry very well. You will have to hang clothes overnight for drying (there is a rack in the closet). So pack accordingly.

We were in London for a week for our son's wedding and chose Albany Court based on other positive recommendations. Everything about the flat and our stay was perfect. Its proximity to so much (including the tube station) was a double bonus---we saw the changing of the guard not once, but twice. And walks in St. James' and Hyde Parks were fun(we had lovely weather). Anita was always responsive to our questions and concerns prior to our arrival. Having all the guide books available was great. We would definitely stay at Albany Court again.

I didn't want to leave! I've stayed in various self catering properties in London before, but this has been one of my favourites. Such a comfortable and lovely flat! It's situated next to the underground station, and the location is perfect. The park is a very short walk, there are numerous pubs and restaurants nearby, as well as a convenience store directly below the flat, and a large grocery store a short walk away. The flat was spotless, with high quality linens, lovely furnishings, a wonderful new TV and DVD player, and loads of 'extras'. The owner was such a delight - very professional, friendly and accommodating. I'm already planning my next visit and highly recommend this flat to anyone considering it. :)

I couldn't recommend this place more enthusiastically. Not only was the location great, but the professionalism of the owner was outstanding. Great experience here.

A fabulous location within easy walking distance of many London sites including Buckingham Palace, London Eye, parliament buildings, west end theatres and restaurants, Trafalgar Square, Churchill’s wartime bunker, etc. Also extremely convenient access to the London Underground, shopping, a grocery store, and friendly neighbourhood pubs. The flat is comfortable, and well equipped with most of the usual amenities of home. A very enjoyable stay!

The flat was lovely and the location made our trip just that much more special. In the past I'd stayed in Bloomsbury and never had a chance to explore around St. James's Park. Until our stay at Albany Court I never knew what I'd missed on previous visits. Tube station, pub, corner store all within a stone's throw and a large market minutes away made for a relaxing stay. Having the ability to see sights during the day and come back and relax and feel as if we were in our own home made our visit perfect albeit too short.

Location of this apartment is perfect - an Underground stop 2 minutes from the door; a large grocery store a 6 minute walk and many sights (Buckingham Palace/London Eye/changing of the guard) within a 10 to 15 minute walk; a park to run/walk or feed the ducks is 5 minutes away. Airport is an hour on the Underground and train stations to get to the countryside are 10 - 20 minutes by Underground. The apartment is roomy enough for three adults, clean and airy. It has just about everything you will need from the complete kitchen with combination washer and dryer to a pile of travel books on London to a couple of umbrella to tote along. Feel free to email with questions.

My husband, teen-aged daughter, and I spend a wonderful week at Albany Court. We can't decide which part was best: the fact that we could stroll to Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, that we were at a tube station (connnected to a great line) within moments of leaving our front door (the only days we used cabs were to take our luggage to and from the airport), that everything was so accessible that we could stop by, change clothes, eat something and run out again without sacrificing precious vacation time, that the apartment itself provided everything we needed and more. Needless to say, it was very clean, well-appointed and there was plenty of space for the three of us. We hope to return soon.

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay in June. The apartment was spacious, clean, comfortable and perfectly located so we did a lot of walking to/from various sights(Buckingham Palace, Westminister Abbey, London Eye, Trafalgar Square etc). Amenities were also close by - supermarket, convenience store, tube, Starbucks coffee shop. Having 2 young kids, we made good use of the TV/DVD, kitchen and washer/dryer facilities. We'll definitely recommend the apartment to any friends/family visiting London and hope to visit ourselves again soon.

My friend and I stayed here for 8 days in April, 2007.Perfect location! Within walking distance of Westminister Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye. A terrific pub is across the street, the tube is around the corner, a small convenience store is directly below the flat. What more could you want? The owners are in the process of upgrading the television and remodeling the bath. Should be absolutely brillant! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

A wonderful apartment--light, airy and (for London) amazingly quiet with double-glazed windows in the bedroom. St. James Park is only a short block and a half away--a beautiful respite when the city becomes too much. And great internet connection for your computer. We'll be back!

My family of 4 stayed in this apartment. The location is great. We're a family of runners and we were able to start each day with a nice jog around St. James Park. Inside, the apartment is clean and comfortable. I would definitely consider staying here again if we return to London.
