Sea Ranch house description
Marvelous classic Sea Ranch home. Vista Grande is wonderful, with sweeping white water views of Black Point. This three bedroom house features stunning architecture, lots of natural wood, a beautiful stone fireplace, a hot tub and a sauna.
This home has an open and complete 'cook's' kitchen with a spacious eating area that has a beautiful ocean view. The large table in the eating area is a natural gathering place to talk over a cup of coffee, read the newspaper, listen to your favorite songs on the CD/MP3 player or have a poker tournament. In addition to the spacious kitchen/dining area, there is a separate formal dining room.
The fireplace in the living room warms the serene reading areas. Curl up in the window seat with a book or pair of binoculars to look for whales or watch the hawks, rabbits and deer that pass through the beautiful meadow.
The master bedroom features a California King bed, wood burning stove, CD player/radio and views of the ocean. The second bedroom has a California King bed and the third bedroom is a comfortable loft with a Queen bed and ocean view. Enjoy the view from the hot tub or relax in the sauna. There are two decks, which are nice places to sit and watch the sunset as the waves crash over Black Point.
Designed by Donald Sandy Jr. and built by Helmut Emke in 1968. Vista Grande also features two additions over the years, both designed by Obie Bowman.
Children of all ages welcome. Please honor the no pets, no smoking restrictions.

Year Purchased: 1974
About: In 1968, Mary Osborne bought the piece of property that is next door to this house (closer to the road) with the intention of building a house on it and retiring there. She wanted to retire near her good friends, Abe and Eve Crittenden, who ran the Plantation Farm Camp for Boys and Girls on Cazadero Road. Abe and Eve eventually retired at Sea Ranch and spent their final days there. Mary, who had been widowed, however, got married for the second time and moved to her new husband’s home in Halifax. She sold the property to her daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Carl Smith around 1973. During that time, there was a moratorium on building on the California Coast. Carl and Phyllis knew they wanted a house, but weren't going to be able to build on that property right away. As they were searching for another house at Sea Ranch, the house next door (Vista Grande) went on the market. In 1974, Carl and Phyllis Smith bought this house. This was one of the first Sea Ranch homes, built in 1968.
Why Sea Ranch:
If you have been to Sea Ranch, you know what a magical place it truly is. This is a place where memories are made -walking along the trails to Black Point, sitting on the beach watching the waves roll in, picnicking under the Redwoods by the Gualala River, sipping a glass of wine & eating cheese and french bread for happy hour as you watch the sunset. It is a great place to reconnect with your family and friends - playing games at the kitchen table, sitting around the fire at night talking and laughing.
