Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1999

I am a photo-based artist, naturalist and avid gardener migrating between Brooklyn, NY and the catskills. Between my work and my ten year old son life is full and adventurous.

Why the Owner Chose Cooperstown

This location is rural while at the same time convenient. I fell in love with the cabin and its surroundings right away. (So much so that we recently bought a farm up the road.) The cabin holds a very special place in my heart. It's is a handmade work of art with its own spirit and personality. A rare find which is also decorated with rare finds. The surrounding countryside is mostly open farmland and rolling hills which appeals to my inner grace and sensitivity to good fresh local farm food. There are many farmers markets and farm stores that sell amazing ingredients to what I consider one of the most important pleasures in life, a delicious responsible meal.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

As I mentioned before the accessibility to the food of many small family farms. The convenience of nearby Oneonta for other supplies and the choice of never leaving the cabin and experiencing solitude at its best. In the summer my son enjoys the Franklin free pool and art and literary workshops at the Bright-hill Center in nearby Treadwell and of course the impeccable performances at The Franklin Stage company.

Girls Getaway!!!

Guest: Carol (Lebanon Township, NJ)
Date of Stay: 09/25/11 Review Submitted: 10/26/11

My friend and I stayed at the cabin for a week in September of 2011. We brought along my dog Bruiser who enjoyed the peacefulness of the cabin as much as we did. Both of our daughters came up on our first night at the cabin, they brought my friends grandson who was 7 months old....we all had such a GREAT TIME!!! We went for a hike across the stream to the top of the hill, just beautiful views from up there!!! We had so much fun looking at all the items and decorations throughout each room of the cabin......we were always finding something NEW to look at!!!!! The Cabin has a great porch, where we would sit and chat or enjoy the quietness of the area. The stream next to the house has a deck where dangling your feet in the water is just one of the many peaceful places to spend your time. My friend and I also went for walks up the dirt road, where we had a picnic to watch the sunset. This Cabin is quiet and charming and we can't wait to go back for another week!

Absolutely Stunning Cabin

I booked the cabin in the hopes of surprising my girlfriend for her birthday; when we got there, she was amazed at everything from the setting to the cabin itself. The location is extremely peaceful, with the added bonus of a small stream right next to the site. Granted, it rained for the two days we were there, but we spent our time relaxing by the fireplace and cooking up feast after feast in the rustic kitchen. I'd recommend this place to anyone I could.

Perfect setting for a snowy weekend

Guest: Bram (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 02/11/11 Review Submitted: 06/18/11

We had a lovely time in this quaint, clean, cozy home. The setting was perfect for a weekend away -- quiet, great views, great walking and hiking. And we made full use of the kitchen stocked with all the implements we needed for every meal. I can't recommend this place strongly enough. After many weekend trips upstate over the past several years, I've found a place I will be returning to!

amazing!

We have been staying here for years in all seasons and it's fantastic. Dana has a real gift in making a unique space that is full of peaceful warmth. The cabin is a real treat for a city dweller like myself...I am transported to another era as soon as I drive up the forested road to the front door. Dana's plantings in spring and summer (and fall) add so much to the property. And the sound of the babbling creek as you lie in bed at night is magic. Sitting on the front porch, staring at the fireflies and the stars...I can't imagine any other place I'd want to be. Can't wait to go back!

Utterly Magical!

Guest: Hands Four (Philadelphia, PA)
Date of Stay: 08/21/10 Review Submitted: 02/16/11

The cabin is something out of a folk tale. The cabin and grounds appear, on first viewing, to have been constructed by a great number of faeries with very eclectic tastes. The interior smells like woodsmoke, in a very comforting, rustic way, as though the place has been well lived- (and loved-) in. We fell in love immediately, delightfully exploring the cabin’s strange and wonderful details. The only thing that would make the cabin look more like some sort of fantasy would be if it were made of ginger bread and candy canes. It's a beautiful log cabin, sitting on a nice large lot. Lots of trees... a few flower beds... A creek near by, with laid stone statues. It's a warm place. The light streaming through the windows onto the bare log walls that were adorned with a most eclectic sort of decor put you at ease, and gave you the impression that there were lifetimes of happy memories here.

Rare beauty and immaculate taste

Guest: Omer (NYC)

It is an aesthetic privilege to be staying at such a gorgeous cabin. Me and my wife take cabin's upstate regularly and this is by far one of the most beautiful one's we've seen. The attention to details, uniqueness and coziness here are incomparable. we came in the dead of winter with beautiful snow all around and cuddled up by the fireplace, cooked and stayed inside 95% of the time for 3 nights and did not even begin to explore the wonders of this house. Highly recommended.

Thank you Dana for sharing your beautiful cabin. We especially enjoyed the serenity of the babbling brook and the walks in your Hemlock forrest.. The children loved building fairy huts. You have such a beautiful collection of artwork and the fireplace was very relaxing. We cannot wait for our next visit. Such a peaceful and relaxing vacation respite. The Taylors

Dana- Judy's husband drove the three of us from Kingston to see the real McCoy...and it's more amazing even than in your great photographs. The guys who have it over the weekend were very nice when they spied us looking from the road and invited us to look around the grounds and to explore inside. The whole thing is like a wonderful mini movie set. I think it may be the original Archetype for cabin-in-the-woods.

Dana, The dust and the trip have finally settled and it is about time I wrote you to say how pleased my daughter and I were with your cabin. It was more than I hoped for. The weather was dreadful by my Texas standards but then we get cranky with more than three days without sunshine. We thus enjoyed the cabin even more. Professionally I particularly admired your effective balance of providing ambiance and function for paying guests while preserving a home for you and your son. I trust you or your obviously responsible caretaker found all in order after our departure. There may be the better part of a bottle of wine left in the refridgerator but we turned the scary rodent-be-gone noise makers back on and turned the thermostat to 50 and I'm pretty sure the damper was closed. Great reminder note placement, by the way. Thanks again

The cabin was way more than we expected it to be. I wish we could had taken Dana up on her gracious offer of a free sunday night stay but we had obligations. Honestly we never left the cabin. We cooked, relaxed and played games around the fireside. It was a magical experience for us.
