Dogs' perspective from Olive and Lulu
Dogs' perspective from Olive and Lulu
We're dogs but want to get a word in. Our owners called last minute wanting a nice dog friendly place and boy was it! Right away our white glove mom was so happy with how clean and well equipped the place was. All we wanted to do was enjoy the beach but mom was happy that there was a nice grassy area right outside the door to filter out the sand and have a safe and protected place for a supervised pit stop. By the way the beach is fantastic. 5 paws rating!

Owner response: We have always known the dogs love the beach at Tintagel but we've never had them tell us this themselves. Bow Wow Wow, thanks for the canine input.
In This Case....It Is About The Destination.
In This Case....It Is About The Destination.
The journey was very clearly disclosed via several types of communications with the owner. My golf buddies and I were up to the challenge of the descent/climb to our 4 day man-cation headquarters. We figured the 57 steps (imagine an out-of-order three story escalator) would be a good warm up/down for our three days of glorious golf; walking (6+ miles each day) Bandon Trails, Bandon Pacific, and Old Mac. We were in the main house and cannot wait to get back there next year. All I can say is that if you have enough life left in you, then spend some of it here. It is classic test and reward........with the reward being much much greater than the test. This house was built in 1937 and is worthy of realistic appreciation. It was clean and very comfortable for the three of us mid 50's old guys. We each had our own bathroom, the kitchen was filled with everything we needed and the view is not describable. Count the 57 or miss out!!! See you next October Dorothy.

Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to review Tintagel by the Sea. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return stay next year. While the stairs are challenging to some (our free aerobic training program) they are also a "stairway to heaven". I'm 64 and am still hauling supplies up and down the stairs....I WISH I could say I was in good shape but I'm definitely not. I need to spend more time at Tintagel. Take the best of care and I'll see you next year, same time, same place.
For some reason the other reviews for this rental have disappeared, so I hope mine makes the cut. First off, the view IS amazing. Access to the beach is fantastic but almost no view is worth killing yourself over. I stayed at this rental for 10 days. Would l do it again ? No. The 57-plus stairs are almost impossible. Carrying suitcases, groceries, up and down over and over really takes a lot of the fun out of being at the beach. I stayed in the lower unit, which is cute but lacking in some areas, such as cleanliness and amenities. I addressed these issues with the owner. She did not respond to them. It seemed to me that she believes the view is SO amazing and fantastic that we shouldn't ask for more. I work hard for my money. When I give that hard-earned money to someone else I expect them to appreciate that. I did not feel that with the owner of this rental. I also addressed some safety issues with her; and she did not respond to that either. I would not recommend this rental to anyone unless they are young; and/or in VERY good physical shape and who are also not expecting much except a fantastic view.

Owner response: We recently joined VRBO and it is unfortunate that our first review is from a guest who had some issues. I sincerely regret that she found the stairs so overwhelming that they seriously detracted from the enjoyment of her stay. We require people to call to make a reservation so that we can be sure they know that there are 57 steps down to the main house. We also require them to initial that they know there are 57 steps on the rental agreement. She mentions in the VRBO review issues regarding amenities, cleanliness, and safety but she doesn't give you specifics. Her email to me was quite lengthy, I did read it carefully, I did not dismiss it ,and I did reply to her email. Most of the email was about the stairs but regarding the amenities she didn't like the metal hangers, couldn't make the can opener work, and there were no plastic storage containers for leftovers. We've never had anyone complain about the can opener before but I will upgrade it now that I know she had a problem using it, we provide saran wrap and aluminum foil to cover leftovers as storage is limited and we use the space to provide most of the items you would have in your own kitchen. Regarding cleanliness, she found a dead fly on the bathroom floor and a smashed fly on the bathroom ceiling which I told the housekeeper about. We have rope lights that go down both sides of the staircase down to the house. She felt we should have rope lights on the short staircase leading to the lower unit and also on the stairs leading down to the beach for safety. We would like that as well but we do have motion sensor lights over each door that come on as you approach. We are not allowed to add lights down at the beach but we do provide flashlights for this purpose and emergencies. We try to be honest in our representation of both the main and lower units at Tintagel by the Sea. We promote the lower unit as clean and comfortable for 2 people or 2 people and 2 small children wanting a secluded beachfront experience. We do not promote it as deluxe but we have hundreds of people who have stayed and felt it was a great value for what they received. Please don't hesitate to call me to discuss whether it might be right for you. I encourage questions and will be honest with you. We want Tintagel to be the right fit for what you are looking for. I'm sincerely sorry it was not right for this guest.
