Homer is The Halibut Capital of the World. We are chiefly a small fishing community at the end of the road on the Kenai Peninsula. By car, we are about 215 miles south of Anchorage while a plane flight from Anchorage takes about 45 minutes. Homer boasts fine eating establishments, churches, grocery stores, sporting goods stores, and much more, all focused on serving the community and our guests (see “Homer Activities” below). Destinations such as Anchor Point, Kenai, Soldotna, Clam Gulch, Ninilchik, Happy Valley, and Seward (home of the SeaLife Center), are all within a day's drive.
You’ll find much to do in Homer. Some of the activities include
• Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitors' Center
• Pratt Museum
• Pier One Theatre
• Art galleries
• Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies
• Gourmet Coffee Roaster
• Infamous Salty Dawg Saloon
• Mead Brewery (offers tasting)
• Farmers' Market
• Fishing Charters for Halibut and Salmon
• Flight Seeing
• Beach Combing
• Bear Viewing
• Marine Eco Tours
• Bishops Beach, Halibut Cove, and Seldovia
• Souvenir hunting at the many quaint shops around town and on the Spit
• Photographic opportunities abound: the volcanic mountains of the Alaska Range, a whale breaching in Cook Inlet, otters floating on their backs, eagles soaring overhead, and moose peacefully grazing.
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We are both retired nurse practitioners and have lived in Alaska since 1980. The 2013 season represented our first year as innkeepers. We love Alaska and look forward to sharing the sights of this beautiful area with visitors and - who knows? - perhaps future residents!
Why the Owner Chose Homer: Our home is on 4.6 acres, nestled in spruce, alder, fir, and cottonwood trees; a large meadow in the back affords a spectacular view of Kachemak Bay, the snow-capped Kenai mountains, the glaciers of the Harding Ice Field, and the Homer Spit. Our home seems as though it's in the country, yet we are within the Homer city limits and are just a short drive from town. The Homer Spit and harbor are only minutes away.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment: Enjoy the serene setting of this vacation rental - a secluded, peaceful, one-bedroom apartment. The window view of Kachemak Bay, mountains, glaciers, and the Homer Spit is spectacular, day or night. You never know when you might spot eagles, moose, black bear, or other wildlife, right outside.
