Directly on the Atlantic Ocean, this very comfortable, well-appointed, one-story home is surrounded by lush landscaping for privacy and seclusion. The view is toward the southwest, featuring vivid sunsets, and Sombrero Key Lighthouse in the distance, marking the coral reef. White-sand Sombrero Beach is just across the water to the west. You can walk, swim, or kayak across in minutes.
Our house is in the heart of Marathon, only two miles from the center of shopping, dining, and attractions, yet is quiet and secluded, since it's on a little island. The house is spacious, light and airy, with ceiling fans in all rooms, tile floors throughout, and a rare coral-rock wall in the living room. The large windows and glass doors seem to bring the ocean and the tropical landscaping inside.
The large master bedroom looks right out onto the ocean. You can watch the stars and the ocean from the king-size bed. This room has a living area (like a family room) and separate dressing room as well. The second bedroom has a queen and a twin, and the third has two twins. The dining table seats six comfortably. The kitchen and breakfast bar, which seats four, look out onto the ocean as well.
Our boat basin is ideal for kayaks, and can even provide a 'sandy beach' at low tide. Walk down the ladder and you can wade around, or swim, or launch kayaks. Please note: our boat basin cannot accommodate motorboats.
Sometimes dolphins swim into our view, and manatees come close to the seawall to dine on the seagrass early in the morning. The oceanside patio is pleasantly shaded by coconut palms and a native silver buttonwood tree. You can enjoy coffee in the morning, or a drink at sunset, and watch the sea life go by. The landscaping has been enhanced with about 80 species of native trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers, many of which are favorites of the birds and butterflies. |
