Pagaldegarai is an elegant palace, decorated with exquisite taste, divided in four floors, six bedrooms, five bathrooms and a toilet. In total habitable 600 square meters surrounded by 5.500 square meters of garden, that for sure will provide you a memorable stay. On the ground floor: the sports area and the parking. You will find a little Basque pediment to play squash, frontennis or Basque pelota; exercise bikes, regular mountain bikes and a dart game. At the garage there is parking place for two vehicles. On the first floor there are the most common areas: brand new kitchen and the eating room, the living room with sofas and TV, a relaxing area with sofas in front of the chimney. All of them are overlooking the splendid little forest surrounding the building. On this floor you will also have a bathroom so there is no need to use the stairs. On the second floor there are six bedrooms, two of them equipped with double bed and bathroom inside the room. Other three rooms are double-sing

We found the home to be even more than the listing described and perfectly comfortable for our three couples. It was clean and well-maintained and the wifi worked flawlessly. Joxeangel was the perfect host - there when needed, but not bothersome at all. We would recommend this property to anyone. We visited many sights in the area from Bayonne to Bilbao and everything in between. Our particular favorites among the many restaurants were Casa Camara in Pasai Donibane, Zuberoa just down the hill from this property, La Grange in Bayonne, Cafe Jean in Biarritz, Parrillada de Mariscos in Donostia, Alameda in Hondarribi, La Gastroteca De Santiago in Madrid, and Sacha in Madrid. We enjoyed the architecture of Bilbao's Guggenheim, and the tasting menu at it's restaurant Nerua was a trip in itself. Very nice that the paved hiking/biking trail up into the mountain passes in front of the house. Bakery, grocery and wine shopping is within five minutes.Owner response: Thank you very much.

We spent a wonderful 2.5 weeks at this property near San Sebastian. The host/owner was super helpful and enthusiastic about helping us make the most of our stay-including finding a wonderful babysitter. The property is close to both San Sebastian (where we did our shopping at the markets, went to the beach and ate many great meals) and Hondarribia, where you can go for tapas in the evening and also go to the beach. But there is no need to go this far for the basics as there are big supermarkets nearby as well as local restaurants, all of which the owner will tell you about. Nearby is a beautiful walking trail and the house even has bikes that can be used by guests. At the top of the hill is a bakery and a vending machine that sells fresh local milk!! It is a very secure and private spot with locking gates, so need to worry about any young children finding there way off - we were with our 2.5 year old and 4 month old. They even had a high chair and 2 cribs for us! Definitely a kid-friendly place. The house itself was in very good condition with lots of space to relax. We would definitely consider returning to this beautiful spot.Owner response: Thank you very much

My family arrived from Miami and Boston with the idea of staying in a comfortable and centrally located area of Northern Spain. The palace "Pagaldegarai" was perfect. The owner, Joxeanjel met us as scheduled at the house and welcomed us with some delicious bread and some treats to start our adventure. He was a gracious host and explained all the details of his most beautiful and comfortable and fully equipped house. There were 9 people in our group and there was plenty of room and comfort for all. We rented a car to take many trips during the week. from Oiartzun, we were a short 2 hour drive to many interesting places we visited. San Sebastian and France was only 20 minutes away. Biaritz, Lourdes, Santander,, Bilbao, the Rioja wine region, Burgos, Santillana are only day trips with time to come home for dinner or Pinxos (Tapas) and wine. After 8 great days we left the house to continue our trip to Asturias and Galicia in western Spain. My family and I loved the idea of staying in a house and taking these trips to enjoy the area we are visiting and will surely do it again. I stayed at Pagaldegarai over the US Memorial Day holiday and actually hosted my wedding at the property. We are an American couple that loves San Sebastian and decided to get married in the city. We hosted our wedding party in the house (12 of us in total) and had the ceremony on the property before going to a restaurant for the reception. The property is even more beautiful than all of the photos -- the home is immaculate, the rooms are terrific, and the views are gorgeous (especially from the terrace visible in the photo on the second floor). The home is very well furnished, with a beautiful collection of plates/glassware, cookware, tons of towels and bath products -- more than anything you would need. Joxe is a very gracious host who originally showed me the property a year ago and again came often to make sure everything was perfect. We had a wonderful family reunion at Pagaldegarai, with family members coming from Wales, BVI and Australia. The house was beautifully clean, superbly maintained and elegantly decorated, with a vast collection of plates and cooking utensils and places to sit and chat and eat. Everything is provided to make the stay as comfortable as if you are at home and the place is in top condition - from bikes, to umbrellas and a vast CD collection of music. There are huge spaces for children to play indoors under the roof and in the basement as well as outdoors- not that we had any kids! There is a wonderful walk/ bike track through the country side, very pretty in spring with the new shoots on the trees a vibrant green, and field flowers, sheep and traditional homes and vegie gardens as the rack winds beside a stream. We had cloudy weather so the satellite connection for the UK TV service did not pick up - though that did not worry us to not have TV during our stay. The listing information and photos are spot on. The internet connection worked perfectly. The property owner was very friendly and showed us the ins and outs of the place and made us very welcome. You need a car to get around and you need to take google maps with you or use a GPS to find the place. Most important is to have the street name if you come by taxi and to know that the house is just down the hill about 300 m from the nearest Restaurant : Zuberoa. We went to San Sebastian often, taking in the tapas, blossom lined streets and enjoying the spring colours in the shops and walking around the point and bay. We visited a number of coastal villages which are most picturesque – Getari to the west and an excursion to Biarritz in the east. We ate at the famous Michelin 3 star restaurant Arvaks, which was a wonderful experience. Whether we ate in our out the food was great. If you visit at Easter – Good Friday is closed everywhere in Spain – though in a short trip – beyond the airport – there is France where the supermarkets are open! This is one of the most enjoyable places we had every visited. We came two families with 3 children and we all enjoyed this palace in the hear of the Basque Country. The house is 20 minutes by car fom the center of San Sebastian. The house is stunningly elegant, and the host Jose is a wonderful man who has untiringly helped us with any enquires we had. He is trustfull man and he suggested us the elegant restaurant Zuberoa which is 300 metres far from the house, and were had a lovely night with them, a restaurant that myself I highly recommend to the future guests. The palace is very clean and the inmense garden is a perfect field to relaxe. The house is very well equiped in the kitchen and in the living room. I rate our stay with a 10. HOLA!. Recomiendo ampliamente este lugar!! Nunca pensé que el trato del dueño de está casa fuera tan humano y tan cálido. Mandé mi solicitud de reserva por curiosidad, pero desde elinstante que joxeanjel me antendió sentí su entusiasmo por ayudarme a realmente vivir la experiencia de estar no sólo en su villa sino en el PAIS VASCO. Joxeanjel nos hizo pensar en dejarnos llevar , y cambiar nuestro plan de vacaciones para tener una estancia más larga este diciembre en San Sebastián. Ayer escribi yen menos de 24 horas ya estaba siendo atendida por TELEFONO!. El trato de joxeanjel, la calidad de la casa, la accesibilidad en cuanto a la economía, me hizo sentir que vale la pena. Acabamos de regresar de pasar una semana en esta estupenda casa. Éramos 13 de familia. Ha sido una estancia extraordinaria. La casa es tal y como se puede ver en las fotos. Fantástica. Un autentico palacete, increíblemente mantenida y equipada: Las habitaciones, los baños, cocina, los múltiples salones, bicicletas, cunas, una fantástica barbacoa. Una gozada. Joxeanjel, atento y amable desde el primer mail que nos enviamos, siempre dispuesto a hacerte la estancia aún más agradable.
