Nuevo Arenal house description
****SPECIAL START-UP PROMOTIONAL RATE $125 PER NIGHT*****
Come stay in a breathtaking new home, custom built to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings while still having every comfort. Enjoy views of the majestic volcano, the tranquil lake complete with wind turbines on the horizon, rolling pasture lands, and the lush rainforest.
The house is modern Bali-style architecture, and is brand new. Construction finished in 2013. It is a gorgeous combination of steel and sharp angles with natural stone and wood. The whole house is furnished with custom-made furniture and cabinets made from the most beautiful local hardwoods. The ceilings are vaulted and 20 feet high. There are two bedrooms, one with a view of the lake and mountains, the other with a view of the volcano. The bathroom has an oversize slate shower and double vanity. The kitchen is fully-equipped with new appliances, and we provide the basics- salt and pepper, paper towels, soap, etc. The living room has an oversize double sliding glass door which opens wide to give the sensation that the deck and the living room are one in the same. Without a doubt, the best feature of the house is the exotic wood bench and bar that runs along the entire length of the covered deck. Guests can sit and dangle their feet in the air with a drink or meal, and take in the majestic views below.
Also offered for your enjoyment are a brand-new hot tub, a beautiful fire pit with formed-benches, and an immense grill. Play with horse-shoes, badminton, or our dartboard. Try your skills with a kite or a Frisbee. If you just feel like staying in, we offer satellite TV, high-speed WiFi, a large selection of DVD’s, and board games.
A delicious continental breakfast will be provided daily. If you know you will be too (happily) weary to cook after a long day of sightseeing and adventures , we can provide a wholesome, home-style dinner for you at a reasonable cost. Plan ahead only please. A menu can be provided upon request.
The house is located in a spacious gated community 10 kilometers up the mountain on a country dirt road from the town of Nuevo Arenal. The road is not always in perfect condition depending on recent rains, but is always passable. A rental car is a must. The development is secluded, yet still close to town and all the local amenities. Being higher in elevation, you will always enjoy a fresher, crisper, breezier climate than 'down the mountain'- between 5-10 degrees difference on average. Unlike many beach areas in Costa Rica where it is always the same weather-hot and humid- here you can experience a refreshing mix of sunshine and heat with rain, clouds, mist, and cooler weather.
It is a perfect place to connect with nature. Our guests will enjoy the marvels of all the local wildlife right at their door-step. The call of the 'congos' swinging through the trees, gigantic toads, a myriad of brightly colored insects and butterflies, bromeliads growing all over the trees, exotic flowers. Bird watchers will be in heaven here in overlooking the treetops at the toucans, hawks, vultures, hummingbirds, parrots and more.
Our family lives on the property as well with our 3 large dogs. The two houses are separated completely, and we will never interfere, but are glad to be of any assistance if needed. We also have two young horses named Daphne and Chestnut. They are friendly and sweet. Curious visitors can learn what it takes to care for them in our stable.
When you venture out, we are a 15 minute drive to do some spelunking in the Venado Caves. La Fortuna is 45 minutes away where you can visit natural hot springs, go canopy jumping, horseback riding, four-wheeling, visit the snake and reptile zoo, indulge in a spa treatment and do some souvenir shopping. Other day trips will take you to magical waterfalls or the crystal-clear blue water of Rio Celeste. As a bonus, our guests may feel free to load up our 2 kayaks and go down to the boat launch in town, where they can explore Lake Arenal and look for artifacts along the shorelines. The entire area around Lake Arenal is a cyclist’s heaven, with excellent roads and trails to navigate. There are so many activities to enjoy in the area, and we are happy to help book activities and recommend our favorites.

What a view !
What a view !
Unfortunaly because of plane delay, we had to reach the house at night time. We did not see the area driving up there. The suprise was a blast when we look outside in the morning, a fantastic view of all the arenal lake and montains ! We spend 3 nights with our 3 teenagers and visit all the beautiful area that arenal has to offer. Our hosts were very nice and help us with activities and direction to reach them. Roads in Costa Rica are not easy ! Our only down side of this stay, it was not long enough. I would recommend at least 5 days.

We (family of 5) spent 8 nights in Kelly and Michael’s house in Dec/Jan 2014. It was amazing. The house is beautiful and very comfortable with breathtaking views of the lake. It has a fully equipped kitchen that was perfect to cook our family meals including New Year’s Eve dinner. The morning breakfast prepared by Kelly was delicious and a great start of the day. Kelly and Michael are incredible; very welcoming, really knowledgeable of the area and always willing to help. From the house, we were able to do a number of great day trips from La Fortuna to the northern part the country: zip lining, hot springs, kitesurfing, kayaking (thank you for lending us your kayaks), hiking and boat rides in Cano Negro wild life refuge. We also visited National Parks including the beautiful Rio Celeste area.

We have nothing but amazing things to say about this place, the owners, the view, and the town! Even more amazing - we stumbled upon this diamond in the rough only by the hand of fate! My boyfriend and I were driving through a really rough unpaved road, and got stuck. After hours of trying to get free, we wandered through a field and met Michael, the owner, who helped us get unstuck. He invited us back to his place for beers, and only after a few did we realize we had to find a place to stay that night - which was when Michael told us about the rental. We were sold before even seeing the room, as the hospitality, and the view, were already enough to tell us this was where we should stay! The guest house is absolutely beautiful, two rooms, and a kitchen of its own. Breakfast was fresh bread and fruit, baked by his lovely wife Kelly. Their daughter was an absolute joy, and their 3 dogs, although big, are all very loveable. There's enough privacy if you're looking for that type of vacation, but once you meet Michael and Kelly, you'll be making lifelong friends! We only spent one night, but there was a LOT to do in this area of Costa Rica, but the house is up the hill so you are away from all of the commotion! Highly recommend this place, and we will definitely be back - but taking the safer road to get to them!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Casa Karon! The house was beautiful, pristine, and comfortable in every way. The views of Lake Arenal, the volcano, and the surrounding countryside were breathtaking. My lovely hosts were incredible! They served me a delicious, homemade breakfast in the mornings and helped me do and see everything that I wanted to experience while I was in the area. I was treated like family, and without them, my visit to the area would not have been the same. I highly recommend Casa Karon to anyone and look forward to coming back as soon as possible!

Breathtaking Views in Paradise!
Breathtaking Views in Paradise!
I just got back from my first trip to Costa Rica. What a wonderful country. My stay at Casa Karon was incredible! Waking up to the incredible views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano was such a delight. The accommodations were excellent with ample space and every creature comfort from home. Didn't expect this in rural Costa Rica. The hosts were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The accommodations were very clean and Kelly's cooking was great. What else could you ask for.....the only downside to the trip was the road leading up to the beautiful gated community. The recent rains had washed out some of the gravel and there were numerous potholes to contend with. Folks in Arenal told me this happens occasionally and they expected the roads to be resurfaced soon. Although this wasn't ideal, it didn't effect my stay much. Another issue was insects! Bring Bug Repellant! This is rural Costa Rica and there are many little critters which can annoy those who are unprepared. The natural beauty of the surrounding rainforest is incredible and one of the appeals to visiting this area for many but it is also home to an incredible variety wildlife which certainly includes insects. As long as you are prepared, this should not be an issue while visiting Arenal. If you get a chance to venture out for a nice dinner, I highly recommend you check out the Gingerbread Restaurant. The food was exceptional so thanks Michael for recommending it!
