Nice, Clean, but probably won't go back
Nice, Clean, but probably won't go back
I'm not sure that family friendly should be used to describe this condo. The pool doesn't allow any floaties in the pool at all, and the man from the condo association spent the day sitting by the pool in the shade staring at my family to be certain that kids my kids didn't take their floaties in the pool. Made for a very awkward day, where we in fact left and spent our time elsewhere. The pool was also shaded for most of the morning into mid-afternoon. The condo itself was nice and the layout was good. All of the rooms have an ocean view which is nice. The elevator by the pool doesn't work from the ground floor so you have to either go up to the first and catch it from there, or go through the lobby, which is a little annoying when you have your hands full with beach gear. The keys are a trick too, you have to wiggle them just right to get them to work, and the fact that you always have to have it to get anywhere was annoying as well. A keypad would work much better. All in all a good trip. My family had a great time. We will not utilize this condo again for several reasons. Also, it should be mentioned in the ad that the pier belongs to the condo next door and there is no access for the public. That was one of the deciding factors for us choosing this condo, so my husband could fish off of the pier while the kids and I played at the beach, only to find out upon arrival that it was gated and only for the use of the neighboring condo. Also, the construction work being done was loud and created quite a headache, not to mention that our assigned parking space was blocked off during our stay and we had to use a guest spot instead. None of these things by themselves was a big enough turn off, but all together really gave us a negative feeling about the whole place.

Manager response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review on our Florida home. I am very happy that your family had a great trip and found our home to be “nice, well laid out and clean”. The ocean views ARE pretty spectacular. I am sorry to read that you felt “awkward” in the pool area. There are often many families with children staying in the building and the pool is usually a highlight for visitors. Most owners have children or grandchildren who visit, so we love to see young ones having fun in the pool. Large floating toys are discouraged as they take up a fair bit of space and can be intrusive in a shared pool, but smaller toys are generally to be found. The elevator by the pool does work, however, it is a secured elevator due to its street level access, so the elevator key you were provided with is required to call it to the ground. This security feature, as well as the keyed doors, prevents non-authorized people from accessing the building. The intent is to keep all guests safe and our homes secure. Security can be annoying, but it is for the benefit of all of us. It is also true that sometimes the exterior security locks can stick due to the salt air corrosion and I can understand your frustration with that. Ocean fronting Florida seems to mean keeping lock oil always readily available and I have forwarded your comments to our maintenance personnel. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. A keyed entry is a very interesting idea. Regarding the pier… it is not mentioned in our website BECAUSE it does not belong to our building. I really wish you had mentioned your intent regarding the pier so that I could have told you that it is not part of our building amenities and thus saved you the disappointment. I regret you were distressed to find it inaccessible to your family. Although you may not return to our home, the area of Indian Shores has many things to delight the young and old and I hope you return to build many wonderful memories in the future. Thank you again for your comments.
Best balcony on the entire beach
Best balcony on the entire beach
My husband and I stayed at this condo in December 2012 and couldn't have been more pleased. The extra large corner balcony gets sun all day and boasts beautiful beach views, we really only left the balcony to walk to nearby restaurants or to walk the beach. We had a rental car (the unit has its own parking spot) but rarely drove. We used the pool every day and it was clean and quiet. The condo itself is quite large and was stocked with everything we needed (sheets, dishes, towels, etc). It was such a great getaway... We hope to stay here again, next time we'll take our kids!

Manager response: Thank you, Lyndsay, for your kind comments regarding our Florida home. It is a perfect place for a quiet, adult get-away as well as a family vacation. I hope you do bring your children in the near future. Certainly they would find a good number of others in the complex to play with. Cheers, Paula.

Year Purchased: 2008
About: We are a family of four who loves to vacation on the beach and complain about our golf games. We bought the condo to enjoy with our children and now that they are grown up, we are looking forward to having more time to spend in Florida - hopefully in the near future!! Living and working in Toronto, Canada our winters make us long for sunny beaches!! We are still years away from retirement, so we make do with occasional long weekends - flying in to play some golf and enjoy the beach. It is a shame for it to not be used so we have decided to rent it out and hope other people enjoy our Florida home as much as we do.
Why Beach Palms (formerly Beach Cottages III):
After spending a few years renting in this building, we decided to buy and set some roots. The kids have spent time on a beach somewhere in the world since they were born. They loved the beach and pool area of Beach Palms of all the Florida condos that we stayed at. We all liked that the building is a low rise, so we were not constantly waiting for elevators. However, as we are on the 4th floor, it is an easy climb to our condo if you have more energy... which is more my husband's style!! 2 sets of elevators, front and back property are very convenient to the beach or to the street. The pool area is beautiful with lots of room to spread out and the beach view is fantastic. The ocean is very calm on our beach - perfect for little ones and the sand is fine between our toes!! The beach is wide and flat with miles to walk. I hate to be indoors while in Florida - so I walk the beach for hours, while I work on my tan. I look to avoid ankle and knee strain, so the level area of sand that stretches for literally miles is perfect for an easy swinging gait. This property gives everyone in our family what they need/want for a holiday. My husband can drive to a different golf course everyday and still be back for lunch. While he is away with the car, the kids use the street car that goes by the building to get down to the tourist shops and restaurants with their friends. Although I do not recommend walking to the grocery store, there are many convenient places to pick up essentials or go out for a coffee. The beautiful bike path the city built extends for miles along Gulf Blvd, so joggers and bikers are out every day for exercise. We sometimes rent bikes for our stay and just keep them in the front hall of the condo. Tampa airport is an easy 30 minute drive - perfect for our quick golf trips and many of our favorite restaurants are within a 15 minute drive.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We love this condo because it is a corner unit directly overlooking the beach. It has more windows than most of the other condos in the building and better security because none of the windows are on the interior walkways; all overlook the beach. Being a family prone to allergies, the clean tile and wood flooring makes it easier for us all to breathe deeply. The scatter rugs are easily steamed regularly to eliminate allergens. Now that we are all adults, we all tend to cook different things at different times of the day, so the updated kitchen was a necessity for us as are the TV's in every bedroom. They may be small, but they provide quiet time for us all while at the same time encourage the kids to join us to watch the bigger screen in the main family room for movies and sports events. The pool area was a huge draw for us as well. The great thing for me was that there is actually shade around the pool. So, after spending hours on the beach, we can always find a patch of shade around the pool to avoid the hot midday sun without having to go inside. This, in my experience, is rare in pool areas!! As a woman of scandinavian descent - I prize the shade provided by the palm trees around the pool. Over the years, we have watched several beach weddings from our balcony, so we know our beach is gorgeous for pictures. We also love to watch for the pod of lively dolphins that live in our bay. We see them almost every 3rd day - very exciting for land-bound Torontonians!!
