- Everybody is talking about Traverse City, we get to live here, and if you are lucky you get to visit. We love our town. We love our neighborhood, Traverse City's Historic District. We like to bike the tart trail, play Frisbee golf, swim, sail, walk three blocks to town, drink coffee and other fermented drinks, watch a movie at the State Theatre. The list is so long and Traverse offers so much....moreless

About the owner: William and Deborah Shaw are an American couple, who have lived in Cainta, Rizal and East Jordan, Michigan. They recently moved to Traverse City and purchased the Wadsworth House, which they have been, and are renovating. Bill is an entrepreneur, establishing a successful electrical contracting business, Sky Electric, in 1989-2012, and building a 10,000 sq ft grocery store in 1999. Bill and Deb have four children and six grandchildren. A passion for the poor and an interest in travel led the Shaw’s to explore Missions in 2002. They were accepted to serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators and worked two years with Wycliffe’s sending organization, SIL Asia, in the Philippines. Bill and Deb returned to Manila in 2007. They volunteered at orphanages and drop-in centers in Cubao and Cainta. It was through their volunteer effort, that they began to consider the opportunity, a street paper and a homeless world cup team might offer to the poor of the Philippines. The Shaws founded Urban Opportunities for Change Foundation, which publishes the Jeepney Magazine, the first street paper in the Developing Asia, and organizes the Philippine Homeless World Cup Team.
Why the Owner Chose Traverse City:
Traverse City is our home town. Four of our grandchildren live here. The Wadsworth was unblemished by poor renovation. It needed a lot of work, but it has great character and history. We love all that Traverse City offers.
The Unique Benefits at this Bed And Breakfast:
The Wadsworth is a boarding/rooming home. It was built in 1906. In 1910 the U.S. census listed, Henry and Bertha Sparling – head of household, Mary Louise Fitts-boarder, Clara Miner-boarder, Robert Edwards-roomer, John Hike and Etta Minor-roomer as residents. The Wadsworth is, as far as we know, the only grandfathered-in boarding/rooming house in Traverse City. We like being the only.
