University Heights house description
The home is a charming early Twentieth century Craftsman (circa 1915) that has a usable front porch with seating and and spacious back yard area complete with a gas grill, shaded patio seating and herb garden (Mint, Chives, Basil,Thyme, Savory). Part of the joy of not staying in a hotel is doing your own cooking (for some people at least). An amazing Sunday farmers' market 4 blocks away in Hillcrest, grocery shopping (Trader Joe's, Ralph's, Sprouts market) are all within walking or biking distance (we have 2 bikes available to use as part of the rental). But when you are not interested in cooking, there are several great restaurants just 2 blocks away!
Each of the two bedrooms has its own queen bed. There is a pull out couch/ futon in the living room as well as an available portable single bed if necessary.
A gas assisted wood burning fireplace in the living room provides a little extra warmth and coziness for when the temperatures drop in San Diego (Yes, the temps do drop here on occasion) . An AC unit and a whole house fan allows guests to keep cool when the weather heats up.
We also have the home outfitted with a flat screen LCD TV with cable TV programming as well as Netflix and many other Roku channels in addition to an included WiFi network for internet access for our guests.
When you are ready to fire up the gas grill, it will be ready and waiting.
For any tiny vacationers, we have a pac-n-play, infant tub, highchair and toys.
We are proud to feature original art throughout the house from a local artist.
Please also note that we have recently converted the home to a VRBO in August of 2013 and therefore we do not have an abundance of traveler reviews touting the home and its charm and amenities. You can be assured that we will strive to make your stay an enjoyable one. Thanks for looking.

- University Heights is a neighborhood located in Central San Diego. It is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Hillcrest and North Park. There are a number of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and other eclectic businesses within walking distance of our home. University is centrally located and allows visitors to explore the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park to the immediate South. The larger commercial district of Mission Valley sits in the valley below University Heights and the beaches (Ocean and Mission) are a short 15 minute jaunt to the west. Downtown San Diego and all it has to offer, is a short ten minute drive to the Southwest....moreless

Happy in the Heights
Happy in the Heights
Great home with absolutely everything we needed! The location was great - walking distance to several eateries and coffee shop, and easy driving distance from the airport, to Balboa Park and to the zoo. The house perfectly suited our needs (2 adult parents and 2 adult children). We used the 2 bedrooms and one of the couches for sleeping. (A rollaway was available, but the couch was perfectly comfortable.) David promptly emailed all the information we needed with regard to house and neighborhood; and he met us upon arrival to show us around and make sure we were familiar withe the operation of the appliances, tv, fireplace, fans. The nights were unusually cool during our stay, and David promptly provided an additional comforter. The house is in terrific condition, tastefully furnished (including some fun art), and clean. It has a charming front porch and patio. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, flatware, glasses and cookware. The linens were more than adequate. We would definitely stay here again on a future visit to SD!

Beautiful house, well represented by pictures - clean, well-maintained. David met us at the house and gave us a tour, which was great. Also, helpful in addressing concerns ahead of time and answering question about nearby swimming for children. The playpen, highchair and toys helped us settle into the house and relax and enjoy our vacation. The toys and tv/roku helped to satisfy children's need for entertainment. House is within easy access to zoo (just minutes away) and freeways (good to have gps). Neighborhood appeared quiet, and a short walk to the nearby playground. Make sure to have a cellphone that works in USA, as there is no telephone.

Just What We Expected
Just What We Expected
This home fit the description and pictures to a tee. We love older homes and neighborhoods and this home was perfect for us. The house is comfy and clean and the neighborhood is quiet. We loved having our own parking place in the driveway. Each morning before we set out to see the sites we prepared breakfast in the well furnished kitchen. The location is ideal. We were just minutes from the major freeways and San Diego's major attractions are about 15 minutes away. We enjoyed the University Heights and Hillcrest neighborhoods. The Sunday morning Farmer's Market in Hillcrest was well worth the walk. David was a wonderful host. He met us at the property our first night and gave us a tour of the home. He provided written directions to local points of interest and businesses. And if we needed anything, he was only a phone call away. This home will not disappoint.

I booked this property for my parents when they visited me in San Diego. The owner was very easy to work with, very responsive and accommodating. My parents enjoyed the neighborhood and used the available bikes to visit the local shops and cafes. The property was comfortable, clean, organized and had all the amenities we needed. The bedrooms and living room were equipped with remote-controlled ceiling fans and dimmers. The property had cable TV and a Roku box for additional movies and shows. We also used the grill a few times and enjoyed dinner on the patio.

A wonderful stay
A wonderful stay
We came to visit family in San Diego and spent three nights here. As soon as we walked in the door we felt at home. The house is beautifully decorated and is incredibly inviting. The pictures show the sweetness of the house but the hominess was a delight. It had everything we needed to cook dinner for our family including a sweet backyard with a BBQ. The beds were comfortable and we slept wonderfully! On one of the days of our visit our family had to work so we spent the day relaxing in the living room reading and watching TV.The TV had every channel we could imagine! The neighborhood was also very walkable. There were too many restaurants to pick from. We are going to have to come back for an eating tour! Our first day there we drove to the market right down the street and stocked up the fridge so we missed out on exploring as much as we would have liked. Next time we come to San Diego we hope we can stay here again and spend even more time. The owners are a wonderful couple and couldn't have been more helpful in making our stay a perfect one in every way.

Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Our family purchased the home as a rental property in 2009, knowing that it would be easy to find great tenants for the property in this popular neighborhood. We recently decided to remodel and turn it into a vacation rental. The location is perfect for out-of-towners in love with (or ready to fall in love with) San Diego. We certainly have enjoyed living in SD both when we were young and single, then as a dating couple, and now raising our kids here.
