Totally renewed in the past few months, this ground floor apartment ideal for 2 people in Padova is part of the Papafava dei Carraresi Palace, descendent of the rulers of Padova in the 14th century. The living room and the bedroom are facing the spacious courtyard, and are flooded with light. The kitchen and the bathroom have both a large window facing Via Marsala, which is a central secondary road with very little traffic. You can have your meals in the spacious living room or more cozily in the kitchen. The living room has a comfortable double sofa bed in case you need some extra sleeps. The apartment has 2 accesses, one through the main entrance hall of the palace and the second one through a back courtyard with a big palm tree, here, upon request a car park is available for the guests of this apartment for rent in Padova.
The Papafava dei Carraresi palace was designed by the architect Gianbattista Novello and built in the second half of the 18th century, it is located in the very centre of Padova and today it is divided into different properties. This apartment still belong to a member of the Papafava dei Carraresi family and it is called Mezzà, because in Venetian dialect it means half and even if its ceilings are 3 m high it is only half of the reception room's ceilings of the second floor, it used to be the site for the administration of the estates and properties of the Papafava dei Carraresi family.

If you like to reach your holiday apartment in Padua by car please advise because I need to have your plate in order to have a special permission from the local police to let you drive in the centre of the city. The apartment has a dedicated car park available in the court yard of the Palazzo.

The city of Padova, or Padua in English, is located only 30 km West of Venice and it is well known for its prestigious history and for the many artists and scientist that have lived and worked here. In the middle ages, under the rule of the da Carrara family, it has represented a serious threat to Venice’s ambitious expansion in the main land.
A visit of Padua has to start with the Scrovegni Chapel painted by Giotto, the frescos represent one of the most relevant and valuable masterpieces of western art. The walls of the Chapel are painted with scenes from the Gospels and the life of Jesus and Mary. The Chapel belongs to the same complex of the Museo degli Eremitani which includes the archaeological museum and the pinacoteque with art works by Giotto, Guariento, Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Tiepolo and a broad overview of Venetian paintings from '400 to '800.
Founded in 1222, the University of Padua, named Il Bò, is one of the oldest in the world, among its illustrious students and teachers there are Copernico and Galileo Galilei. The University's Botanical Garden, founded in 1545, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because “it is the origin of all the botanical gardens in the world and represents the cradle of science, scientific exchange and understanding of the relations between nature and culture.” The university also host the oldest anatomical theatre in the world. The room, perfectly preserved, was built in 1594. The central area still has the original dissecting table and around it the up going wooden tiers for the students as in a Roman theatre.
The Basilica of St Anthony of Padua is the symbol of the city, its construction started in 1232 and went on until 1310. Here are kept the relics of S. Antony, the Portuguese Franciscan saint who died in Padua in 1231.
The Court of Padua was located in the Palazzo della Ragione, built starting form 1218, its first floor hosts the largest hanging room in the world and the walls are entirely frescoed with astrological themes, here you can also find the huge wooden horse, created on Count Annibal Capodilista’s will for an extraordinary feast in 1466. The Palazzo separates the two Piazzas, Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta, animated daily by a lively vegetable and fruit market that is only 8 minute walk from the apartment. The ground floor of the Salone is full of little exquisite food shops as bakeries, butchers, fish shop, cheese shops etc.
Only 4 minutes walk from the apartment there is the Padua Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and its Baptistery: an impressive Romanic style building first built in 313 and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The frescoes in the Baptistery are the work of Giusto de’ Menabuoi, a painter active in Padua in the second half of the 14th century.
If you like to have a rest during you visit of Padova, go to Caffè Pedrocchi, the world famous “door less café”, so-called because until 1916 it was open 24 hours a day, located just in front of the university it was a famous meeting place for artists, intellectuals and students.
If you decide to come to Padua do not miss the largest square in Italy and the second largest in Europe, Prato della Valle today is the favorite meeting place of Padua’s students and every 3rd Sunday of the month there is an antique market. In the medieval time it was the place for military parades and folk festivals. The shape of the square is elliptical and in the centre there is an island surrounded by a canal and 78 statues, made in the 18th century, which represent important people of the history of Padua.

I also manage Frassanelle, the family estate in the country side 20 km west of Padua in the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills, where it is possible to rent villas and apartments in a beautiful and quiet surrounding. I have started to work in the touristic field in 1998 and today I am responsible for 12 properties in Padua, Venice and in the Euganean Hills. In these years I have built up a great experience end a good knowledge of the region. I was born in Padua and brought up first in Milan and than in Florence where I have attended scientific high school. I have a BA degree in African Religions, School of Oriental and African Studies London. I have traveled a lot in Africa, Middle East, Europe and USA, but I have decided to come back to my origins to dedicate my self to the restoration and keeping of my family historical heritage.
Why Padova: I strongly suggest Il Mezzà because it is located in the center of Padua and everything is easily reachable by feet. Because it is quite, it is comfortable and beautifully furnished with antiques that have been well maintained. In this apartment in Padua there is no sense of decay that some old property may have, all the upholstery are new. I am a traveler and I know what is more appreciated when you arrive in a new place and what are the expectations after a long and often tiring journey: comfortable modern sofa and beds, spot less linen, spot less bathroom equipped with toilet paper and soap and spot less kitchen.
