Akumal is a small, quiet community on Mexico's Caribbean coast, about an hour's drive south of Cancun airport. The condo is in a six-unit beach front building. It has two air conditioned bedrooms, two baths (one en-suite), a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living/dining area and huge balcony overlooking the beach. There is a pool on site, as well as a superb restaurant.
Attractions in the area: The Maya ruins of Tulum and Coba are within easy reach. Tulum is about a 15 minute drive, and Coba is 45 minutes or so beyond that. The major Maya ruins at Chichen Itza are a day trip. Several 'theme parks' featuring snorkelling, eco-tours and entertainment are quite close, and the natural underground caves of Aktun Chen are only five minutes away.
Snorkelling and scuba: There is superb snorkelling in Half-Moon Bay right in front of the condo building. Nearby Yal-Ku lagoon is also a popular snorkelling area. For scuba divers, two large dive shops are located in Akumal Bay.
Shopping and Restaurants: The renowned La Lunita restaurant - literally on our doorstep - is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm. You can have meals brought to you in the condo.
There are also several other restaurants in the area featuring local cuisine, as well as Italian or US specialities. A couple of small grocery stores have most things you may need, but if you prefer, there are several large supermarkets in Playa del Carmen.

We had a great time in the condo in Akumal. The location on the bay was perfect with the sandy beach in front, the easy walk to Yal-ku and the restaurants nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Mayan ruins in Muyil and Coba. We also explored the public beach and cenote near Chemuyil which were great. A wonderful vacation - we hadn't been there for six years and it was as great as we remembered (although a little more built up). The building, pool and beach were well maintained. The cleaning crew was great - the place was kept spic and span with a tidy up each day. We had no problem with any of the appliances. The bedrooms were spacious and the living area a nice size - we did not need the air conditioners - the fans worked great. We had everything we needed. I just wanted to tell you how much we LOVED your sweet condo! It was absolutely perfect. The unit was spacious and the kitchen area perfect for cooking (i love a gas stove) with everything we needed. We loved the big balcony overlooking half moon bay and enjoyed snorkeling right in front as well as at Yalku lagoon and city beach and saw many big sea turtles, rays, and beautiful fish. Thank you so much. If I owned a place in Mexico this is just how I would want it. We love Akumal and thank you for our lovely stay there! : )Did you find this review helpful? We had a great time here. The location is great, convenient to restaurants and recreation activities such as snorkeling, scuba, golfing and fishing. The beach view is spectacular from the spacious terrace. This is not an ideal swimming beach because of the sharp rocks and corals. There is a nice beach for swimming about a 20 minute walk, or 5 minute drive from here. The beds were comfortable, the place was cleaned daily and the staff was very efficient and friendly. Their is a wall safe for your valuables.The condo is furnished with rustic Mexican style furniture and appliances so do not expect 5 star hotel amenities. We have had 2 fantastic holidays in this condo in 2007 and 2009. Family with 3 girls, aged 12 and twins of 10 this holiday. The beach is wonderful, right on your doorstep, the most amazing snorkelling experiences. We swam with turtles, rays, barracuda, parrot fish - huge array of sealife. Birdlife is also spectacular - pelicans, osprey, frigate birds. Exceptionally well attended to by housekeeping and Roberto in reception is very friendly and helpful, feels like an old friend. Have spent a lot more on a bigger villa but does not compare to the value that this condo presents. So much to do nearby, have visited Tulum, Xel ha, Xcaret and Coba in an easy day of travel. Hidden Worlds cenotes is especially recommended with a family. Even travelled into Chichen Itza for a two day tour from here - well worth staying over and visiting first thing in the morning rather than later in the day when the tour buses arrive. We would strongly recommend this condo to anyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
