La Mision house description
This large house sits right on a beautiful beach of the Pacific Ocean. Located in a long-established gated community, the house has two floors with 2 kitchens, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a huge open living room. A cantina is just a few doors down, serving breakfast through dinner. Many local attractions are only a few minutes away, including: Puerto Salina Marina for fishing and boating, Baja Mar for world-class golf, and La Fonda for spa treatments and massage. Ensenada, Puerto Nuevo and Rosarito for shopping, dining and nightlife are about 20 minutes away.
- The Beach -
The La Salina Beach that the house sits on is very wide, with white sand. It is a beach break with variable surf conditions. Point breaks are to the north and south.
- Beach Side of the House (Back) -
The downstairs features a patio with two picnic tables and eight benches. There is an outdoor charcoal BBQ. A lovely cactus garden, with a glass block wall, highlights the ocean view. The master bedroom balcony provides some shade on a hot summer day. There is a hose for washing off after enjoying the beach.
- The Kitchen -
Enter the house by ascending a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the second floor and passing through the wooden double doors with crystal panes. Directly to your right is a large pantry. Take a few steps and you are in the kitchen. The house is well-designed for large families or to entertain, and the kitchen is no exception. It has a large island with a gas stove and oven and a large exhaust fan. Additionally, there is an electric stove on the counter. The kitchen is well-lit, and well-stocked with pots, pans and utensils. There is a large refrigerator, microwave, drinking water dispenser and everything you would need in a home's kitchen.
- The Living Room / Dining Room -
Beyond the kitchen is an open space that extends the length of the house to the sliding glass doors to the ocean balcony. It is a large space - about 30 x 90 feet. There is a nice dining table near the kitchen area, with leaves to make it bigger or smaller. Beyond the dining area is a fireplace with various couches and chairs. The far glass wall has two sliding doors onto the ocean-side balcony. Although this is a non-smoking property, you may smoke on the balconies or patios.
- The Master Bedroom -
Walking into the bedroom, on the right is a mirrored bureau against the wall, and then a sliding glass door onto the master bedroom balcony, with stunning ocean views. The balcony has a pink marble floor and low railings (don't fall off!) for lovely views seated or in a wheelchair. The balcony overlooks the patio and cactus garden, and is perfect for watching sunsets over the Pacific. The bed is centered across from the bureau with a window overhead providing views of the marina and down the coastline. A sitting room separates the bedroom from the bathroom. The sitting room has a well- lit desk, with great Wi-Fi signal and an overhead outlet. The bathroom has a tub, shower, toilet, sink and bidet. There is a phone in the room.
- The Marina Ocean View Bedroom -
The large king bed has mirrors over head, and a partial view of the marina from your pillow. It also has a full bathroom with a handicap accessible sink and shower. There is also a phone in this room.
- The Downstairs -
Walk down steps from the living room into the garage area. To the ocean-side is a whole apartment with a small kitchen, living room, bedroom and dining area. Although not as well stocked as the upstairs kitchen, there are plates, utensils and cooking ware. The living room has a fireplace with a blower fan to keep you warm in the winter. To the right of the stairwell, walking down, is the 'Maid's Quarters'. The 'Maid's Quarters' is a bedroom with no real view, also with a bathroom, and is accessible through the garage. Also downstairs is a single car garage. The driveway can fit two cars and the garage one. There is plenty of additional parking in front of the cantina.
- Additional Details -
The house itself is gorgeous and well situated for a large group or family. It is my family's part-time home, so please enjoy the art on the walls, and home-like feel, but respect our property. There is a stereo ready for a 'regular' (1/8' or 3.5mm) headphone jack upstairs and a speaker set for the same downstairs. The neighbors come down often. If you want to party late and loud, that's fine, but you should consider going down to the beach to do that, where no one will hear you. Fire works are legal, but please don't be popping them off at all hours and do clean up after yourself.
The community of La Salina has a security guard that keeps an eye on the community. There are about 60 houses or so in La Salina. The guys in the cantina will help you out if you have any questions on directions, need to call a taxi or whatever else. The cantina has good cold beer, pool, shuffle board and also sits directly on the ocean.

I really enjoyed the weekend down in La Salina -- The house was large and comfortable enough for myself and a large group of friends. We easily fit two cars inside the gate on the driveway and a third car parked right next to the gate. Felt very safe there. The cantina next door had very friendly staff and pretty good food. The bartender actually set up a sunset horseback ride on the beach for a bunch of the people in our group. We caught some pretty solid surf at the beach right out in front of the house on the first day but had to venture north to La Fonda the second day. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware/utensils and the beach was beautiful. Easy to get to La Fonda and other nearby beaches. The closest market for food/drinks was just a few minute drive down the road. The only issue I can think of was that the sliding glass doors facing the beach require a bit of muscle to get open/closed but everything else was great with no issues. I would return in a heartbeat! .

Not kid-friendly, house not cleaned for new guests
Not kid-friendly, house not cleaned for new guests
When I first walked in the house looked beautiful. However I was disappointed with many factors and I would never return. First, this beach house contains all of the previous owner's belongings. It feels like you are in someone else's home, not a vacation rental. It is not cleaned out at all. Second, this home is not kid friendly. There are paintings that scared my children and the steep stairs to the garage is not safe for young kids or babies. The screen doors leading to outside patio didn't work easily and the screen door on the first floor didn't close at all. The garage floor is cluttered with piles of junk including two wheelchairs. Again, not kid friendly. The bedroom on garage floor has creepy, dark paintings. The 4th bedroom is in the garage, not in the house. very misleading. The bathtub upstairs didn't drain and warm water ran out fast. Also Jose the maintenance guy just walked in the house without any warning. Again, not appropriate when guests are present. The beach had an overcast the entire time we were there and house was unusually cold.

Owner response: Hello, Thank you for the feedback on our home. I will take a moment to address your comments. + You stated, "First, this beach house contains all of the previous owner's belongings. It feels like you are in someone else's home, not a vacation rental." It is true that paintings are up and we have things like games, candles, and books out in the house, and there are tools in the garage. I have re-read my listing and I have mentioned these things in the listing. I'm sorry to hear that you felt the place was too much like staying in someone else's home. I have tried to be as clear about the home like atmosphere as much as possible. + You stated "Second, this home is not kid friendly. There are paintings that scared my children and the steep stairs to the garage is not safe for young kids or babies." I have mentioned in the listing that there are no kid-safe implementations in the house. I will also point out that you told me there would be six adults and did not mention kids. Had you told me that you were bringing children I would have made sure to stress the fact that there are no provsions for children in place. + You state: "The 4th bedroom is in the garage, not in the house. very misleading." The fourth bedroom is not in the gargage, but you walk through the gagrage to get to it. I don't feel I have been misleading, but that is an important note, so I have updated the listing. Thank you for the feedback there. + You stated "Jose the maintenance guy just walked in the house without any warning. " I'm very sorry about that. I did clear with you beforehand to allow for a viewing. Of course he should have knocked first and I have talked with him about that and he maintains he did. Perhaps someone else in your party let him in? + You stated "The beach had an overcast the entire time we were there and house was unusually cold." Sorry to hear you did not have good weather. I will point out that there are large fireplaces to heat the home and heaters throughout the house. Sorry that you felt the experience was sub-par and for taking the time to provide feedback. -tad.
Great Experience in La Salina
Great Experience in La Salina
We arrived at the beach house just as the sun was about to set over the Pacific. We oohed and aahed over the house, checked out the well equiped kitchen, spacious and open dining/living area, 4 bedrooms w/full baths, the downstairs living area and then walked onto 2 separate decks to capture the sunset among some beautiful tropical clouds. Huge outdoor patio with plenty of seating. BBQ pit and just beyond the ice plant is the expansive beach. We had dinner the first night at the Cantina--very good, and very tasty Bloody Mary's the next morning. Cantina is fun and everyone is very friendly. We had 8 in our group (from 23-59) and each and everyone of us had a relaxing, fun, delightful time surfing, swimming, reading, walking along the beach, playing pool at the Cantina. We all loved the laid back La Salina experience and definitely plan to go back next summer--hopefully to this same house. (Oh and my SUV fit perfectly in the garage).

Good experience in La Salina
Good experience in La Salina
This property was well cared for ANC description and pictures were accurate. Not far from this property, there were good restaurants and wonderful golf course. Only thing I was not happy about was the car garage. It was not cleaned up and I could not park my mini van inside.

Owner response: Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Apologies that the garage was not cleared out for you. Our caretaker had a trailer in there, which I did not know about - cleared out now. If you have any such problems in the future, just drop me a line and I'll be happy to take care of it for you.
