The listing was very accurate (steep staircase, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6 etc), and the photos were very good although I have to say that this cabin had even more charm than I envisioned. The cabin was clean and comfortable and the owner was very helpful answering questions and making sure we were taken care of! I would absolutely recommend this property to my friends and family. With regards to area recommendations - Mt Hood is its own playground so get out and explore. The only thing that would make this location better would be WiFi. I would have been more at ease having alternative ways to stay in touch with my kids and caregivers. WiFi might just be a worthy future investment. I should note that the owner was very gracious and gave me the land line number before hand etc so emergencies were covered. Overall, this was a WONDERFUL place to stay and we look forward to going back some day with our kids!

About the owner: We are native Pacific North-Westerners; myself from Portland and Greg from Seattle. We're avid outdoors people and love the alpine!
Why the Owner Chose Government Camp:
The Zigzag River cabin was built in the 1940's on US Forest Land when the federal government offered a unique opportunity for folks to enjoy the great outdoors through a land lease program. We have put our heart and soul into this cabin and have made many, many improvements since purchasing it 10 years ago. While it's still a project (plans to remodel the bathroom this fall), we believe it's ready to share with like-minded folks who want the experience of vacationing in natural surroundings, but without the tent.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our cabin is located right on the Zigzag river, and while it's just 15 minutes from the hubbub of Government Camp, it's far enough away to enjoy the peace and privacy of the forest. Hiking and mountain biking trails can be access right from the cabin door, with rock climbing, fishing, and skiing just minutes away!
