- The best time of year on Placid Lake is September, warm days, cool nights, stars galore. Finish reading or writing that book and enjoy the quiet. Take a day trek to Missoula (only an hour drive), check out the University of Montana, shop downtown, take in a concert or theater. On a warm fall day drive north to see Glacier Park in its golden splendor. Lots of nearby trails for biking and hiking. Fishing on the historic Blackfoot River is best in the fall. The browns and rainbows on blue-ribbon Rock Creek will be rocking. There is a medical facility just 8 miles away, the town of Seeley Lake offers excellent ambulance service and Missoula supports two hospitals. Cell service is excellent from the cabin. ...moreless

Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: Our family bought this cabin so our 5 children could enjoy a year-round nature-based outdoor lifestyle. We use it frequently all summer but with many obligations that start in late summer, we thought 'why not give someone else the opportunity to enjoy our favorite place for a month-long vacation during the very best time of year in western Montana.'
Why the Owner Chose Placid Lake:
Placid Lake in only an easy one hour drive from the university town of Missoula, Montana (pop. ~ 75,000), our home for the last 25 years. The nearby resort town of Seeley Lake offers Wi-Fi, grocery shopping, boat rentals, several nice restaurants, a few bars and a great 18 hole golf course. Great native trout fishing is nearby on the famed Blackfoot River. Plus, unlike many other rural towns in MT, Seeley Lake has a modern medical facility (only needed that once!). Last but not least, Placid Lake is the largest (and prettiest) lake in the Clearwater chain of lakes, but is just slightly off the beaten track, so we enjoy many quiet days and nights when other lakes are still busy. My wife likes it even more than home because it takes us about 5 minutes to keep it clean (unlike those great big places you might be looking at). Plus, we get great cell phone coverage!!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our cozy vacation home was professionally remodeled in 2003. The Douglas-fir and western larch flooring and walls emit an aura that calms the soul, while the lodgepole pine ceiling captures the lake's early morning sparkle. The crackling wood stove provides the perfect end of day centerpiece. Later we step outside to the deck, try to name the stars and marvel at the Milky Way.
