Here's your opportunity to experience being pampered, while maintaining your privacy at the Enchanted Cottage!
Located only three blocks from the beach and one block south of the beautiful Del Mar Plaza, you can enjoy all that the area has to offer without the crowds and mess of "on-the-sand" properties! The cottage, (which is a NO SMOKING property), is completely landscaped with fountains, flowers, and fruit trees, and enclosed with custom fencing. There is a "peek-of-the-ocean" view from the front of the house.
Indoors, you can relax with a 46" HD flat screen tv, or keep the children entertained with the Play Station 3.
From one of the front patios, you can relax in the porch swing savoring your morning coffee - all the while being entertained by the parade of locals, pets & tourists on their way to the beach or Starbucks! Or, head down to Starbucks yourself for coffee w/the locals (one block downhill) & enjoy the people parade there... In the evening have a glass of wine on the front terrace, sitting in wrought iron chairs by the warm glow of the chiminera - and watch the beautiful play of colors in the sky as the sun sets into the ocean (Yes, you can see the sunset from your front terrace!) Or walk to the Del Mar Plaza for dinner (Il Fornio, Pacifica del Mar, Epazotes - all have spectacular ocean views and spectacular menus)- just a block north...
The house itself is my personal retreat (although it's close to everything, it's very quiet) and has been in my possession for seven years now. During this time it has been completely renovated, and I continue to treat it like my "baby". The furnishings include a cheerful mix of antiques, wicker, French country pieces... the living room features a gas fireplace and overlooks the front gardens and "peek-of-ocean" view.
The dining nook is just off the front entrance and also has windows overlooking the front garden area. The kitchen, located in the center of the cottage, has an arched pass-thru into the living room (so you can cook while still being part of the activities). Featured in the kitchen are a hand-painted floor, Viking appliances (range & dishwasher) in a light yellow ("lemonade" to Viking) and stainless steel. The east end of the kitchen merges into a glassed-in sitting/dining area opening onto the back courtyard and gardens; it is light & airy with sky-lights.
The master bedroom (the "peach" bedroom) features painted French furnishings and has an extremely comfortable double "pillow" (queen-size) bed; opening onto its own private atrium area, complete with fountain, ferns, and roses, it is very much a haven. Birds of all kinds visit and add their songs to the gardens. A full bathroom with glassed-in shower is adjacent.
On the other side of the house are two bedrooms and a separate bath, which includes a shower and large tub.
The back bedroom, (the "green" bedroom) features an antique walnut double bed and dresser set with painted flowers. French doors opening onto the courtyard and gardens create a spacious and airy ambience. For your comfort, the famous "Temprapedic" mattress (a double) is provided - one of the most comfortable mattresses on which I've ever slept!
The front bedroom (the "blue" bedroom) contains a white wicker day bed which can be set up as a king, two twins, or one twin/daybed - each version contains a double layer of the"Temprapedic" toppers on top of the feather bed and mattress. Roses and fruit trees peek at you through the front window... The blue bedroom looks outon one of the front terraces and gardens and is the sunniest room in the cottage.
The house itself feels cozy, yet is spacious with an "indoor-outdoor" feel, and is suitable for children and pets (the landscaping was designed with dogs in mind). The property is completely fenced, with gardens galore. The entire focus of my residence is of tranquility, relaxation, romance and laughter...
Everything possible will be done to customize your stay to fit your requirements - including a welcome package w/flowers & wine -or anything else you might need (including maid service for an additional charge). My wish for you is to truly have an enchanted experience at my cottage!

We have stayed at the cottage 3 times in the past year and each time we enjoy it even more. The enclosed backyard is perfect for our dogs; the cottage's setting is ideal for the beach, shopping and restaurants; and the cottage's decor is perfect for relaxing. Sandra is great to work with and always adds a special touch to personalize our visit.
Owner response:thank you David. We always love having you at the cottage as well -

My family and I had a great time here. Placed was fully stocked with everything that we needed...soap, shampoo, kitchen supplies, towels, firewood, grill, welcome basket with lots of goodies, etc... Location is great as you can walk to the beach and powerhouse park as well as the village. We have been here twice and plan to go again next year. My 5 year old loved the outside swing and toddler table and chairs in the back. The house was big enough that our infant could take naps while my 5 yo could be entertained with everything outside. Most importantly the place was very clean. My wife also loved cooking with high end appliances at the cottage. The owner was readily available for any questions that we had. Can't say enough about the cottage and location.
Owner response:Wonderful feedback from great clients.

The furniture is basic Goodwill with inexpensive slip covers. The bedrooms are small and musty with water damage. The main shower is so small that it is difficult to move to avoid the water as it fluctuates between cool and scalding. There is no garbage disposal, no gas grill and the range very temperamental. The television and sound system is antiquated at best. The street in front is congested and noisy with workers during the day and patrons from the bars and restaurants at night. This was not a good experience.
Owner response:13 years of enchanted clients... The reviewers and I are in a dispute over the state in which the cottage was left upon their departure. I have offered to compromise but so far there has been no response, other than the above review.. The clients viewed the cottage before renting it so they knew exactly what they were getting. I was not aware during their 3-1/2 month stay of any issues or problems. As advised by VRBO, I will address the complaints. The furniture: some pieces are antique, some are from Metropolis, Pottery Barn, etc., and some are my own. It is a beach cottage and it's furnished cottage-style, with some shabby-chic thrown in.. Yes, the bedrooms are smaller. Sometimes bedrooms or cabinets can get musty if they are not aired out properly. I believe the water damage referred to is some floor parquet tiles that lifted up due to heavy rains during the client's stay. I would have been happy to replace/repair them immediately but it seemed to me my clients preferred their privacy more. As far as I was aware, the lifted floor tiles didn't seem to be an issue during their stay. Yes, the glassed-in shower is small, but there is a shower and bathtub combination in the other bathroom. Several clients have stayed at the cottage recently and there were no complaints of scalding/then cold shower water. There is a garbage disposal. I do have a notice asking clients to use their discretion as to what is put down the drains. No gas grill, but there is a charcoal grill. The range is a Viking and sometimes is sensitive. No, I did not have the latest television at the time of their rental. Since their visit we have upgraded to a 46" HD flat screen TV, added additional cable lines and a 2ndtv set, as well as an ipod player/charger and a Play Station 3. Parking/Street noise: This is a beach cottage in a popular area. I've never had anyone else complain about street noise or bar patrons in 13 years of renting. One time clients complained of construction noise that the next-door neighbors were doing and I gave them a rebate. I stay in the cottage myself whenever I can as I love the neighborhood and the house itself. The same is true for our family and friends, as well as many repeat clients. I live in a quiet area on 5 acres and have always marvelled how quiet the area around the cottage is. Hope this addresses anyone's concerns! Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions

This cottage is lovely and the location can't be beat. The description and pictures accurately depict the house, which is nestled in a very nice residential community. We particularly liked listening to the fountain at night and the lovely sitting areas in the front and back to enjoy the fabulous San Diego weather. A glass of wine while swinging on the covered porch was the perfect ending to the day. Having a driveway to park in was an added bonus as parking is at a premium on weekends. We stayed with our 3 boys in mid July and enjoyed walking to the beach and restaurants (Sbicca was a favorite), as well as the proximity to all of the attractions around San Diego. It was a very quick drive to La Jolla, Lego Land, the zoo and, our favorite, San Diego Surfing Academy in Carlsbad. The owner and her assistant were responsive to every request. We were greeted by vases of fresh flowers and even a welcome basket with fruit, snacks and wine when we arrived.
Owner response:I feel the same way!
