About: I grew up in Los Angeles, and my family used to escape to the beach house most weekends--and we were lucky enough to spend much of our summers here too. The beach house was rented for many years, but we have now rediscovered the magic of being at Hollywood Beach and enjoy sharing it with our children and friends. My husband are are both environmental consultants in Santa Barbara and love to come here to relax and just get away.
Why Oxnard: My Mom and Dad bought this place as a family getaway when I was a little girl and we used as a base for sailing and living the beach life. Many of my parent's friends bought houses next door and across the street and all the kids used to race our little sailboats in the harbor or play in the surf and sand while the parents enjoyed their happy hour on the patio. It was a magical time and a magical place.
After my brother and I went off to college and started our own lives, my Mom and Dad rented the beach house for almost 20 years to one family. When they moved out a few years ago, my husband and I spent 4 months remodeling to update the Beach House and to re-capture the relaxed feel of the classic 1950's California Beach Bungalow. We love this place and still use it whenever we can. We entertain inside and on the patio, have big outdoor wood fires, BBQ, walk the beach searching for sand dollars, gaze at the islands and marvel at the sunsets. We fish, sail, talk with our neighbors, listen to music or watch a movie and go to sleep listening to the waves. Above all, we relax.
My Dad is gone now but my 94-year old mother sill loves to come here with us. We had a reunion here two years ago, and the old beach house crowd (and their kids and their kids!) came from near and far to celebrate. Since then, we have had great times here with our friends and family. This place still has my heart and my family's and we are happy to share it with you.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow: This affordable, charming, laid-back beach house has a classic feel with all of the modern conveniences. Hollywood Beach has the best of everything--the beach itself is wide, beautiful, and uncrowded--with great surf. The harbor is large and perfect for kayaks and other small boats. The area has so much to offer--you can do as much or as little as you would like. We love just walking on the beach and reading on the patio. For those looking for more action, Anacapa Island is only 12 miles away and it and the other Channel Islands are easily accessible through a tour company located in the harbor. Whale watching is also available. Santa Barbara is only 45 minutes away, and countless wineries are just a bit further in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. Ojai, another charming, artistic community is also less than 1/2 hour away.
