Read the reviews they are all true. This is a very special place and Trevor is an excellent host- there when you need him but not obtrusive. Every extra little thing we asked for was provided (eg binoculars to check out the amazing array of birds visible from one's bedroom window) or mats for the beach. The private waterfall is amazing - we went down to it twice, and do the extra bit up to the higher waterfall, it's really empowering. The swimming pool is lovely and good spot for bird watching. The mosquitoes are a big nuisance. I'm not someone who is normally bitten but I was - think wasn't taking enough care early morning. Thing is you are in the rain forest so this is what you expect, so like people say take repellant and long sleeve light cover up clothes for morning and evening. Otherwise relax in the many comfortable spots and enjoy the peace and the bird song.

Owner response: Hi Gwen and Martin Thank you for your kind words, appreciated. To all future guest, the mozies are part and parcel of the experience please use a proper repellent and improve your vacation The overall tropical experience is oh so well worth it. Thanks again folks, hope your return home was safe and happy Yours T

We had an excellent stay at Trevor's lodge. The place is great, in the middle of the forest, comfortable, clean, well-maintained. The views are just spectacular, the one from the pool in particular sticks to your memory long after you're back to the cold grim winter in Europe. Trevor has been very friendly and helpful. You have to go see Trevor's waterfall, it's totally worth it. The only piece of advice I can think of is to bring mosquito repellent with you. All in all, it's been a great experience, the island is wonderful, the people are friendly and nice, the food is very good and Trevor's place is probaly the best you'll find on the island. Once again, thanks for a lovely time!

We hadn't planned to stay here during our holiday, but some other accommodation we'd booked turned out to be not as good as we'd hoped so we managed to sort out a stay at Trevor's properties at very short notice. From being referred to him by one of his friends that we had stayed with, to exchanging a few emails, he had picked us up within a couple of hours! Thank you for coming to our rescue from disappointing holiday accommodation! We didn't quite know what to expect from Trevor's place, rising up rough tracks in the hills above the beautiful coast, but when we arrived our jaws dropped - this place is paradise! The elevation gives you fantastic views of the sea over lush greenery and the rainforest surroundings feel exotic and are full of wildlife. It's the pretty, not scary, sort of wildlife. A hummingbird flitting in and out of your window whilst you're doing the washing up is an average occurrence, as is the cacophony of calls from the colourful parrots in the surrounding trees in the morning. I also met Mick the Stick Insect. The only unwelcome wildlife was the mosquitoes - I got eaten alive! I'd recommend wearing lots of repellent, burning coils, using the nets provided and spraying under the bed with insecticide. We had the opportunity to stay in Rainbow and in the newly built Xanadu, since we required 4 nights stay at no notice. Xanadu is absolutely stunning; a wooden lodge with a contemporary and stylish feel, very airy and open with views from the big open windows in all directions. It has a very large and gorgeous outside decking area with infinity pool that makes you grin from ear to ear when you get up to it in the morning. Rainbow is an equally lovely property, with more of a shabby-chic and arty feel to it, more cosy than contemporary. The indoors is nice to spend the evening in. It is a place to just relax and enjoy the surroundings, which we did for 4 days without going anywhere! Trevor had kindly taken us to the supermarket first so we wanted for nothing. The most energetic we got was visiting the lovely little waterfall. Parlatuvier looked like a nice little village to visit though, if you'd had a car or were up for a very stiff walk back up the hill. Trevor was an absolutely lovely chap who really helped to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable and we had some good chats and a laugh with him. I hope we get to go back there one day and see him again. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful place!

We are a family of four from Canada who stayed at the Rainbow Villa for the first two weeks of December 2012. Rainbow Villa was an ideal location for our Tobago vacation. We loved being in the jungle with only a short (albeit steep) walk down to the Parlatuvier beach. Every afternoon saw us on the jetty buying fish directly from the fishermen, collecting fresh bread on Saturday or buying fresh fruit and veggies from the local stand. The villa is great - with lots of options for activities. The pool was wonderful and our 12 year old spent many an hour snorkeling to the bottom while we watched from the hammock or the round reading chair on the deck. From the deck you can see both the sea and surrounding rainforest hills. The first floor is completely open with a kitchen, dining area and living room. We made full use of the kitchen which had everything we needed (microwave, kettle, sandwich maker and coffee pot). There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen and single bed, all with comfortable mattresses (which is to say firm) and mosquito netting (although we had no problems with the mosquitoes) and each with a full ensuite bathroom. There are laundry facilities in an adjacent building and having WiFi in our villa allowed our sons to keep in touch with their classmates in Canada. The private waterfall on the property is lovely, albeit a challenge to get to in the rain. The challenge of the steep path is greatly eased by conveniently placed bricks and lengths of rope. We learned the value of a sturdy walking stick early in our hiking adventures and there is a selection of sticks right outside the villa. The owner, Trevor, is very welcoming, has great ideas for activities around the villa and the island, and while he is usually nearby working on some project, he is unobtrusive. Peter, the gardener, took us fishing and arranged a rain forest walk. There are also several guide books and information pamphlets in the villa. Be sure to get down to the Parlatuvier community centre (it is the big bright blue building) on Saturday afternoon to order clay oven baked bread for pick up later that evening. We especially enjoyed the Pumpkin Bread. The central location of Rainbow Villa makes it a great jumpoff spot for exploring the Rainforest Reserve and the Carribean beaches and it is an easy drive to Roxborough for groceries and Argyle Falls.

Owner response: Thanks ever so much Doug You guys were great Always very welcomed Enjoy T

We had a fabulous time at Rainbow Lodge, Trevor made us very welcome on our arrival and we woke on our first morning to be greeted with a superb seaview surrounded by palm trees and the glint of bright green parrots and beautiful blue birds swooping past. Glad we stopped for supplies at Penny Savers on the way so we could enjoy breakfast on the terrace - I'd recommend the vanilla almond milk on your cereal! You can pick up some fresh veggies (including delicious peppers) from the lady down the road. All the cooking utensils you need are there, if you have a favourite knife for chopping it might be worth bringing and maybe a few safety pins for the odd hole in the mossie nets, those little buggers will find you! You can pick up mosquito coils cheaply from most stores and they seem to help. Vanessa down at Sunshine Cafe near Bloody Bay cooks a mean lunch and 'Birdwatchers' restaurant in Speyside cooked up the best lobster ever, it was mouthwateringly delicious (£15 ish). I was a bit worried about safety before we got out to Tobago and we needn't have worried, everyone was so friendly and laid back. We took £400 spending money for a week and spent it all (although this included rum and the most expensive chocolate in the world at £15 a bar - it's very nice but not sure it warrants that kind of price tag, bought at the airport) - next time we'd like to go on a fishing or rainforest trip with Peter (who works with Trevor), he's a dude and will look after you well, but unfortunately we ran out of time. Couple of tips - make sure you take the address (Rainbow Lodge, Palatuvier Road) in your hand luggage as you will need to fill in a visa on the plane for immigration, and they won't let you through without it... And - watch out for geckos on the floor, they are usually on the walls but one poor little fella came to rather a miserable end when it met with Tom's bare foot! Sorry mr. gecko. We loved the privacy, tranquility and beauty of Rainbow lodge and it's surroundings, and hope to go back, possibly with friends, although part of us wants to keep this little gem all to ourselves!

Owner response: Thank you Catherine, Was a pleasure having you guys, the guests that came in after you ,mended the mozzie nets. that took care of the need to bring pins ,took you advice and sharpened the kitchen knives, which you may not have discovered in their neat wooden box on the kitchen counter. Peter ,sends his regards, next time you will spend a little time longer and have an even better back in times small island experience. Plus we never had enough time together Next time Yours T

I already fell in love with the Lodge before i arrived so nothing prepared me for the true beauty and jaw dropping WOW FACTOR that the lodge has. We where met at the airport by Jason who took us 1st to the supermarket to stock up on supplies and then onto the lodge. on arrival we met both Trevor and Max his very friendly dog. I really don't know what was the most amazing thing about the lodge? the view was just amazing inside and out, from the bedroom the windows open to almost full length of the wall which meant I woke up to a panoramic view of the Caribbean every morning, to the infinity pool that was just the right size for family fun. The area is very very safe, please ignore the odd stories about muggings ect that people love to tell you about, they are wrong I cant tell you how at home a felt, we rarely bothered to lock the doors. Trevor was on hand if we needed anything at all without being intrusive although I wish we had spent more time with him as he is a very interesting man. The people are so friendly without wanting anything from you other than to be friendly and pass the time of day so take time to chat to the locals because there are some truly great people on the island. I took children with me to the lodge age 9, 11, 16 who said it was the best holiday they ever had, with humming birds, and parrots flying about, fire flies twinkling so bright it looked like Christmas tree lights, weather they relaxed on the hammock, played on the swing or explored the many birds and flowers around the children always had something to do. I must recommend Vanes's food which Trevor will direct you to i think it was the best in the Island!. Then there is Peter, who works for Trevor but holds many other jobs one of which being a fisherman, we went on a boat trip with him and then we took the fish we brought and sailed over to Pirates bay where Peter cooked the fish on the beach, it was very tasty. I would recommend going to the boat house in Castara on a wed night as they Caribbean drums and limbo contests which was fun, if you pop there in the day time they will even arrange someone to pick you up so you can have a drink! I did visit the main tourist area for one day and just didn't like it, neither did the kids we left after only 2 hours. Don't forget Trevor's Waterfall, what a beautiful place and to not have to share it was pretty special to. We cant wait to go back, I think I left my heart behind in this beautiful Island.

Wish we had more time together The new lodge Xanadu is taking so much of my time It will be ready for the Christmas Will give your regards to Peter & Vaness Have a wonderful Season See you again Yours T

My family including two kids, age 12 & 15, stayed at Rainbow Lodge for 3 weeks,Aug-Sept,2012. We had a most fantastic time,Trevor ,the owner, was so welcoming and all his friends were a delight to meet. We were taken into the Rainforest and fishing out at sea, all through Trev`s contacts. The Lodge itself is beautiful, it is well maintained and the views are stunning, looking out to the Caribbean Sea across the rainforest . We had some tasty meals out, to be honest we would quite happily have stayed at the villa and not travel out, as lying in the hammock by the pool could have been enough. A walk down to the waterfall is just lovely through the old cocoa estate. We would not hesitate to recommend this villa, which is away from the hustle and bustle of the the more touristy parts of the island, to any one thinking of a beautiful Caribbean ,Tobago holiday, we give Rainbow Lodge 5 stars. We come away with wonderful memories and a wish to return. Mike, Pam and the Kids

We arrived after nightfall and were met by the friendliest driver who brought us to Trevor's house, even though it was dark outside, we could still make out that this place was special. When we arrived at Trevor's house, we were amazed, this is far more than a holiday home, every room offered something interesting and unique, the house was built with comfort and relaxation at the top of the priority list! It has everything you could need and more...set in the most beautiful tropical surroundings. There is so much to do and see without even leaving the house! Tobago is an amazing place to visit and Parlatuvier is probably the nicest place on the island. The beach is amazing, and you can get everything you need in the village. We would highly recommend a visit here, its safe, friendly and there is so much to do. Trevor is a gracious host, helpful when you need him and a really interesting guy and knows all the other locals who can hook you up with a boat ride, forest trek- both of which we would definitely recommend. Would love to go back again! Aza and Kate

Owner response: Thanks Folks, Trust you had a pleasant trip home, was great hosting you, Peter, sends his regards, took our guests out yesterday, boat ride up the coast, sunny day ,caught fish and cooked them right there on that pink sand beach , Lovers Bay near Hermitage, the whole family was delighted. The villagers all helped build an out door Mud Oven recently ,we collect fallen hard wood trees from the Estate , on Saturdays , take the wood down in our trusty truck and fire up the oven ,by the late afternoon ,oh! what lovely scents of freshly baked breads waft over the village, I swear even the parrots and yellow tails swoop in. Most folks are eating the warm bread as they are walking down to the jetty, Imbie`s shop where they could get a beastly cold beer, the coconut sweet bread, goes down proper with a cup of lemon grass tea. The kids in now just love Max, took him down to the waterfalls, gave him a scrub , he needed it, he adores being spoilt, big bear, Xanadu is on track to be opened in Dec, next time ,we have an even better experience for you up there. Two weeks ago we had our Blue Food Festival, where we celebrate foods of the rain forest. Lots of food ,drink and entertainment, it was a sunny day ,loads of people from all over the island turned up, all had fun, some on the beach, some at the waterfalls, most just relaxing near the river side. At nights now I can hear the practicing drummers and steel pan ,as the next event ,Christmas followed closely by Carnival in the New Year, every one has a good ,good time. Had dinner over at the Sunset Cafe in Bloody Bay last Sunday, Vaness ,the owner ,lovely lady, presented us with the Menu of local river Prawns , in a coconut, curry sauce, oh boy! baked Pork, stewed Chicken and grilled Mahi Mahi fish, we all had our favorite, but we all agreed the callaloo and macaroni pie, with sauteed veg, pigeon peas, was a great dinner, not to forget the bar . Talking about Bars ,Andy at the Glasgow Bar , newly renovated is offering Soup on Saturdays. That Bar has the best view on the Island, looking down on the Horse Shoe Bay of Parlatuvier, with the Sister Isles , out in the Caribbean Sea, you can see the fisher men in their boats , drifting up and down around the Isles, today`s Catch of the Day. Darlington, who I believe took you into the rainforest, going on a trail walk today with our guest, says the forest is teeming with fauna and flora, so many specie of birds, he is real forest man, knows his herbs. Trevor's place is on the north side of Tobago, a beautiful part of an especially beautiful Island. If you expect an "all you can eat and drink" resort, this isn't for you. If you're looking for an authentic piece of genuine caribbean, lovely sunsets, hummingbirds in the bedroom, views you could die for, the friendliest people anywhere, then you're in luck. Enjoy it, but don't take it over because I want to go back!
