Read the reviews they are all true. This is a very special place and Trevor is an excellent host- there when you need him but not obtrusive. Every extra little thing we asked for was provided (eg binoculars to check out the amazing array of birds visible from one's bedroom window) or mats for the beach. The private waterfall is amazing - we went down to it twice, and do the extra bit up to the higher waterfall, it's really empowering. The swimming pool is lovely and good spot for bird watching. The mosquitoes are a big nuisance. I'm not someone who is normally bitten but I was - think wasn't taking enough care early morning. Thing is you are in the rain forest so this is what you expect, so like people say take repellant and long sleeve light cover up clothes for morning and evening. Otherwise relax in the many comfortable spots and enjoy the peace and the bird song.Owner response: Hi Gwen and Martin Thank you for your kind words, appreciated. To all future guest, the mozies are part and parcel of the experience please use a proper repellent and improve your vacation The overall tropical experience is oh so well worth it. Thanks again folks, hope your return home was safe and happy Yours T

We hadn't planned to stay here during our holiday, but some other accommodation we'd booked turned out to be not as good as we'd hoped so we managed to sort out a stay at Trevor's properties at very short notice. From being referred to him by one of his friends that we had stayed with, to exchanging a few emails, he had picked us up within a couple of hours! Thank you for coming to our rescue from disappointing holiday accommodation! We didn't quite know what to expect from Trevor's place, rising up rough tracks in the hills above the beautiful coast, but when we arrived our jaws dropped - this place is paradise! The elevation gives you fantastic views of the sea over lush greenery and the rainforest surroundings feel exotic and are full of wildlife. It's the pretty, not scary, sort of wildlife. A hummingbird flitting in and out of your window whilst you're doing the washing up is an average occurrence, as is the cacophony of calls from the colourful parrots in the surrounding trees in the morning. I also met Mick the Stick Insect. The only unwelcome wildlife was the mosquitoes - I got eaten alive! I'd recommend wearing lots of repellent, burning coils, using the nets provided and spraying under the bed with insecticide. We had the opportunity to stay in Rainbow and in the newly built Xanadu, since we required 4 nights stay at no notice. Xanadu is absolutely stunning; a wooden lodge with a contemporary and stylish feel, very airy and open with views from the big open windows in all directions. It has a very large and gorgeous outside decking area with infinity pool that makes you grin from ear to ear when you get up to it in the morning. Rainbow is an equally lovely property, with more of a shabby-chic and arty feel to it, more cosy than contemporary. The indoors is nice to spend the evening in. It is a place to just relax and enjoy the surroundings, which we did for 4 days without going anywhere! Trevor had kindly taken us to the supermarket first so we wanted for nothing. The most energetic we got was visiting the lovely little waterfall. Parlatuvier looked like a nice little village to visit though, if you'd had a car or were up for a very stiff walk back up the hill. Trevor was an absolutely lovely chap who really helped to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable and we had some good chats and a laugh with him. I hope we get to go back there one day and see him again. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful place!Owner response: My pleasure W&C Much thanks for your kind words, appreciated Yours T

We had an excellent stay at Trevor's lodge. The place is great, in the middle of the forest, comfortable, clean, well-maintained. The views are just spectacular, the one from the pool in particular sticks to your memory long after you're back to the cold grim winter in Europe. Trevor has been very friendly and helpful. You have to go see Trevor's waterfall, it's totally worth it. The only piece of advice I can think of is to bring mosquito repellent with you. All in all, it's been a great experience, the island is wonderful, the people are friendly and nice, the food is very good and Trevor's place is probaly the best you'll find on the island. Once again, thanks for a lovely time!Owner response: Thank you both, Loved having you ,best regards to my Romanian friends. You made my day Yours T

Es war für uns alles perfekt und wir kommen mit Sicherheit wieder, lieber Trevor...Owner response: Thank you so much Kirsten and Olaf, Was my pleasure having you stay at Rainbow Lodge Only did not get to spend enough Limming with you , next time Fred and Max send their regards Best Wishes T

We are a family of four from Canada who stayed at the Rainbow Villa for the first two weeks of December 2012. Rainbow Villa was an ideal location for our Tobago vacation. We loved being in the jungle with only a short (albeit steep) walk down to the Parlatuvier beach. Every afternoon saw us on the jetty buying fish directly from the fishermen, collecting fresh bread on Saturday or buying fresh fruit and veggies from the local stand. The villa is great - with lots of options for activities. The pool was wonderful and our 12 year old spent many an hour snorkeling to the bottom while we watched from the hammock or the round reading chair on the deck. From the deck you can see both the sea and surrounding rainforest hills. The first floor is completely open with a kitchen, dining area and living room. We made full use of the kitchen which had everything we needed (microwave, kettle, sandwich maker and coffee pot). There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen and single bed, all with comfortable mattresses (which is to say firm) and mosquito netting (although we had no problems with the mosquitoes) and each with a full ensuite bathroom. There are laundry facilities in an adjacent building and having WiFi in our villa allowed our sons to keep in touch with their classmates in Canada. The private waterfall on the property is lovely, albeit a challenge to get to in the rain. The challenge of the steep path is greatly eased by conveniently placed bricks and lengths of rope. We learned the value of a sturdy walking stick early in our hiking adventures and there is a selection of sticks right outside the villa. The owner, Trevor, is very welcoming, has great ideas for activities around the villa and the island, and while he is usually nearby working on some project, he is unobtrusive. Peter, the gardener, took us fishing and arranged a rain forest walk. There are also several guide books and information pamphlets in the villa. Be sure to get down to the Parlatuvier community centre (it is the big bright blue building) on Saturday afternoon to order clay oven baked bread for pick up later that evening. We especially enjoyed the Pumpkin Bread. The central location of Rainbow Villa makes it a great jumpoff spot for exploring the Rainforest Reserve and the Carribean beaches and it is an easy drive to Roxborough for groceries and Argyle Falls.Owner response: Thanks ever so much Doug You guys were great Always very welcomed Enjoy T

We had a fabulous time at Rainbow Lodge, Trevor made us very welcome on our arrival and we woke on our first morning to be greeted with a superb seaview surrounded by palm trees and the glint of bright green parrots and beautiful blue birds swooping past. Glad we stopped for supplies at Penny Savers on the way so we could enjoy breakfast on the terrace - I'd recommend the vanilla almond milk on your cereal! You can pick up some fresh veggies (including delicious peppers) from the lady down the road. All the cooking utensils you need are there, if you have a favourite knife for chopping it might be worth bringing and maybe a few safety pins for the odd hole in the mossie nets, those little buggers will find you! You can pick up mosquito coils cheaply from most stores and they seem to help. Vanessa down at Sunshine Cafe near Bloody Bay cooks a mean lunch and 'Birdwatchers' restaurant in Speyside cooked up the best lobster ever, it was mouthwateringly delicious (£15 ish). I was a bit worried about safety before we got out to Tobago and we needn't have worried, everyone was so friendly and laid back. We took £400 spending money for a week and spent it all (although this included rum and the most expensive chocolate in the world at £15 a bar - it's very nice but not sure it warrants that kind of price tag, bought at the airport) - next time we'd like to go on a fishing or rainforest trip with Peter (who works with Trevor), he's a dude and will look after you well, but unfortunately we ran out of time. Couple of tips - make sure you take the address (Rainbow Lodge, Palatuvier Road) in your hand luggage as you will need to fill in a visa on the plane for immigration, and they won't let you through without it... And - watch out for geckos on the floor, they are usually on the walls but one poor little fella came to rather a miserable end when it met with Tom's bare foot! Sorry mr. gecko. We loved the privacy, tranquility and beauty of Rainbow lodge and it's surroundings, and hope to go back, possibly with friends, although part of us wants to keep this little gem all to ourselves!Owner response: Thank you Catherine, Was a pleasure having you guys, the guests that came in after you ,mended the mozzie nets. that took care of the need to bring pins ,took you advice and sharpened the kitchen knives, which you may not have discovered in their neat wooden box on the kitchen counter. Peter ,sends his regards, next time you will spend a little time longer and have an even better back in times small island experience. Plus we never had enough time together Next time Yours T

I already fell in love with the Lodge before i arrived so nothing prepared me for the true beauty and jaw dropping WOW FACTOR that the lodge has. We where met at the airport by Jason who took us 1st to the supermarket to stock up on supplies and then onto the lodge. on arrival we met both Trevor and Max his very friendly dog. I really don't know what was the most amazing thing about the lodge? the view was just amazing inside and out, from the bedroom the windows open to almost full length of the wall which meant I woke up to a panoramic view of the Caribbean every morning, to the infinity pool that was just the right size for family fun. The area is very very safe, please ignore the odd stories about muggings ect that people love to tell you about, they are wrong I cant tell you how at home a felt, we rarely bothered to lock the doors. Trevor was on hand if we needed anything at all without being intrusive although I wish we had spent more time with him as he is a very interesting man. The people are so friendly without wanting anything from you other than to be friendly and pass the time of day so take time to chat to the locals because there are some truly great people on the island. I took children with me to the lodge age 9, 11, 16 who said it was the best holiday they ever had, with humming birds, and parrots flying about, fire flies twinkling so bright it looked like Christmas tree lights, weather they relaxed on the hammock, played on the swing or explored the many birds and flowers around the children always had something to do. I must recommend Vanes's food which Trevor will direct you to i think it was the best in the Island!. Then there is Peter, who works for Trevor but holds many other jobs one of which being a fisherman, we went on a boat trip with him and then we took the fish we brought and sailed over to Pirates bay where Peter cooked the fish on the beach, it was very tasty. I would recommend going to the boat house in Castara on a wed night as they Caribbean drums and limbo contests which was fun, if you pop there in the day time they will even arrange someone to pick you up so you can have a drink! I did visit the main tourist area for one day and just didn't like it, neither did the kids we left after only 2 hours. Don't forget Trevor's Waterfall, what a beautiful place and to not have to share it was pretty special to. We cant wait to go back, I think I left my heart behind in this beautiful Island.Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind review Was my pleasure hosting your wonderful family. Wish we had more time together The new lodge Xanadu is taking so much of my time It will be ready for the Christmas Will give your regards to Peter & Vaness Have a wonderful Season See you again Yours T

We arrived after nightfall and were met by the friendliest driver who brought us to Trevor's house, even though it was dark outside, we could still make out that this place was special. When we arrived at Trevor's house, we were amazed, this is far more than a holiday home, every room offered something interesting and unique, the house was built with comfort and relaxation at the top of the priority list! It has everything you could need and more...set in the most beautiful tropical surroundings. There is so much to do and see without even leaving the house! Tobago is an amazing place to visit and Parlatuvier is probably the nicest place on the island. The beach is amazing, and you can get everything you need in the village. We would highly recommend a visit here, its safe, friendly and there is so much to do. Trevor is a gracious host, helpful when you need him and a really interesting guy and knows all the other locals who can hook you up with a boat ride, forest trek- both of which we would definitely recommend. Would love to go back again! Aza and KateOwner response: Thanks Folks, Trust you had a pleasant trip home, was great hosting you, Peter, sends his regards, took our guests out yesterday, boat ride up the coast, sunny day ,caught fish and cooked them right there on that pink sand beach , Lovers Bay near Hermitage, the whole family was delighted. The villagers all helped build an out door Mud Oven recently ,we collect fallen hard wood trees from the Estate , on Saturdays , take the wood down in our trusty truck and fire up the oven ,by the late afternoon ,oh! what lovely scents of freshly baked breads waft over the village, I swear even the parrots and yellow tails swoop in. Most folks are eating the warm bread as they are walking down to the jetty, Imbie`s shop where they could get a beastly cold beer, the coconut sweet bread, goes down proper with a cup of lemon grass tea. The kids in now just love Max, took him down to the waterfalls, gave him a scrub , he needed it, he adores being spoilt, big bear, Xanadu is on track to be opened in Dec, next time ,we have an even better experience for you up there. Two weeks ago we had our Blue Food Festival, where we celebrate foods of the rain forest. Lots of food ,drink and entertainment, it was a sunny day ,loads of people from all over the island turned up, all had fun, some on the beach, some at the waterfalls, most just relaxing near the river side. At nights now I can hear the practicing drummers and steel pan ,as the next event ,Christmas followed closely by Carnival in the New Year, every one has a good ,good time. Had dinner over at the Sunset Cafe in Bloody Bay last Sunday, Vaness ,the owner ,lovely lady, presented us with the Menu of local river Prawns , in a coconut, curry sauce, oh boy! baked Pork, stewed Chicken and grilled Mahi Mahi fish, we all had our favorite, but we all agreed the callaloo and macaroni pie, with sauteed veg, pigeon peas, was a great dinner, not to forget the bar . Talking about Bars ,Andy at the Glasgow Bar , newly renovated is offering Soup on Saturdays. That Bar has the best view on the Island, looking down on the Horse Shoe Bay of Parlatuvier, with the Sister Isles , out in the Caribbean Sea, you can see the fisher men in their boats , drifting up and down around the Isles, today`s Catch of the Day. Darlington, who I believe took you into the rainforest, going on a trail walk today with our guest, says the forest is teeming with fauna and flora, so many specie of birds, he is real forest man, knows his herbs. My family including two kids, age 12 & 15, stayed at Rainbow Lodge for 3 weeks,Aug-Sept,2012. We had a most fantastic time,Trevor ,the owner, was so welcoming and all his friends were a delight to meet. We were taken into the Rainforest and fishing out at sea, all through Trev`s contacts. The Lodge itself is beautiful, it is well maintained and the views are stunning, looking out to the Caribbean Sea across the rainforest . We had some tasty meals out, to be honest we would quite happily have stayed at the villa and not travel out, as lying in the hammock by the pool could have been enough. A walk down to the waterfall is just lovely through the old cocoa estate. We would not hesitate to recommend this villa, which is away from the hustle and bustle of the the more touristy parts of the island, to any one thinking of a beautiful Caribbean ,Tobago holiday, we give Rainbow Lodge 5 stars. We come away with wonderful memories and a wish to return. Mike, Pam and the KidsDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We arrived to this lovely accommodation , not being a fan of air con hotels we wanted something more authentic, hit the jack pot at Rainbow Lodge. It`s clean and well thought out construction for a relaxing staythat should have been obvious from our liasons with the laid-back and welcoming Trevor. The views from the deck are breathtaking espicallly from the round sofa and lying in the hammock was a treat, will get one for home. The pool is delightful in the heat, great design There is lots to do around but we just loved Rainbow Lodge ,spent most of the time hanging out here. Enjoyed our stay, Trevor was a fountain of information, and his friendly Caribbean tempered dog Max. Atul UKDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/7

If you are looking to get away "far from the madding crowd" you can't go far wrong with this holiday property. The island is largely unspoiled, particularly the northern part. The timber built lodge is forward facing and set into a hill on the fringe of the rain forest. It has two very large bedrooms upstairs each with a queen bed and a single bed (all with nets) with wonderful views across the garden out to the Caribbean Sea. The view is interspersed with Royal Palms and Coconut Trees. Downstairs is the kitchen, which has all your basic needs (no washing machine, who cares?), dining room and lounge with access to the sun-deck and infinity pool. When you arrive here you quickly slip into 'Tobago time'. This is a place for putting your feet up and unwinding; sipping on local rum or beer while you observe the Blue Grey and Palm Tanagers, Cachalacas, Short-tailed Swifts, Orange Winged Parrots, Crested Oropendolas and Humming birds from the comfort of the day bed or hammock. You can spend spend hours in that fabulous pool with the equally fabulous view or go off and explore the island. The owner, Trevor, lives in a place at the back of the property and although respectful of your privacy, is happy to chat and is an invaluable source of information and contacts ie. car hire, guides for fishing or the rain forest, places to eat etc. There is a bar at the end of the road (Glasgow's) which overlooks the beach and is a 10-15 minute walk, plus there are a couple of small shops near the beach for basic provisions . Restaurants are few and far between but the Sunshine Cafe on the road to Bloody Bay is worthy of a visit (10 minutes). The lodge is around a 70 minute drive from the airport at Crown Point. The capital, Scarborough, where you will find most of the bigger shops is about an hour's drive away. A 4x4 is recommended for use in general on the island. However you chose to spend your time here I'm sure you'll feel chilled by the end of it. David and Alison West Sussex UKDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

We had a wonderful time here at Parlatuvier. Its a great place to sit on the deck, possibly in the pool and watch the birdlife coming and going. The view across the bay is superb, palm trees and blue skies. The pool was a great asset after a hot days sightseeing. There are lots of things to do nearby, but a car is needed as its very hilly with twisty roads. The property has a lovely waterfall in walking distance plus there are some pathways straight out of the door to walk around. I'd also recommend the rainforest reserve about 5 minutes drive away. Its the oldest forest reserve in the western hemisphere ! Also good were 'little tobago' and the cocoa plantation near the Argyle falls. All the facilities were as stated, clean and everything worked. We generally cooked food ourselves which was easy to do on the large cooker. There is a useful small shop in Parlatuvier, but the main food shops are a little way away, its best to stock up en route from the airport. (The car hire people Taylors, will stop at 'Penny Savers' for you) Castara is the main nearby town, about 15-20 mins drive. There are restaurants and coffee shop, bank in Castara. Its still not very touristy though ! Trevor the owner lives next door to the property so very handy for tips and any queries. Parlatuvier is away from the main resort of Tobago on Crown Point, but its about an hours drive away if you really need a latte and some 'mall shopping'. I would recommend this property as a great, quiet place to stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

The descriptions and the photos of "Nature Retreat Tobago" are completely accurate but they certainly don't do it justice! We had a wonderful week there in the dry season with very little rain and lots of glorious sunshine. The location high on the edge of the rainforest allows you to watch the most fantastic variety of birds (from parrots to hummingbirds) from the deck by the swimming pool. Indeed as others have said you could probably spend the whole holiday here but you'd miss so much else! Trevor is incredibly kind and helpful without being the least bit intrusive. He's performed small miracles with the house and garden which is ideal for those who really want to get away from it all. Waking up each morning to the sound of birds and the sight of the last bats flying through the bedroom is quite magical, as is the display of the bioluminescent torch beetles every evening. The short walk down to Trevor's waterfall is also well worthwhile. We strongly recommend the Coffee Shop in Castara for excellent homemade ice cream or dinner, Bingi's fruit stall in Castara for gorgeous fruit, especially papaya, and the Boathouse restaurant in Castara for food and entertainment on a Wednesday night. The grocery by the jetty in Parlatuvier was the best anywhere. We liked Parlatuvier beach best (with the schoolchildren playing cricket at lunchtimes). Other excellent beaches are Englishman's Bay and Pirates Bay near Charlotteville. If you enjoy wildlife do take a walk into the forest behind Trevor's house: you'll see more wonderful birds, butterflies, flowers and leaf-cutter ants! We saw even more there than we did on the Gilpin Trail. Another really good day included visits to the Cocoa Plantation and the Argyll Falls, just outside Roxborough on the other side of the island. We certainly didn't want to come home, and we'd love to go back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Had a wonderful time at Trevor's place. I agree with all the other reviews about the property and surroundings. Unfortunately the rain has washed away the track at the bottom by the waterfall, so we couldn't get near enough for a swim. You will need a 4x4 as the road up is a little challenging (especially if it's been raining). Taylors supplied us with a car that did the job brilliantly. As others have said, the views need to be seen to be belived- so green and verdant. The natural alarm clock (the parrot's and the corico's) is a bit startling to start with but you soon get used to it. Going to bed with the bats and the fireflys is amazing. Parlatuvier is a little piece of heaven - no-one else on the beach, all day. There's Choices bar opposite the school for a cold beer when the need arises. Englishmans bay, the next beach down the road is just as beautiful. We travelled to Pigeon Point a couple of times where the water is warmer, sand softer, perhaps more crowded but just as wonderful. Had to pay a couple of £'s to get on it but well worth it. It had nice toilets, showers, eating places and good parking etc. We would definitely recommed Trevors for people who would like to get away from it all and destress themselves.Did you find this review helpful? It seems like a faraway dream to me now. This is a place that I will always keep in my heart not least because we were married here by the waterfall and nothing could be more romantic. Everything here was more perfect than we had dared to hope for and as soon as we arrived we knew we had fallen on our feet. I will never forget my seven year old daughter tearing around the house shouting "awesome" in every room she went into when we first arrived. The house is perfect with a family; the kids were endlessly entertained allowing us plenty of romantic newly wed time! The house is fully equip with everything you need and you always have Trevor and Peter on hand to help. You could easily spend you whole time just chilling at the Lodge and by the waterfall nestled away in the rainforest surrounded by exotic wildlife. Although it would be almost criminal not to explore the perfect Caribbean beaches the are quiet and unspoilt. The local town Parlatuvier is so friendly that you will soon feel right at home and the people are lovely. This place is definitely a hidden gem, the house itself is a work of art with a backdrop of a tranquil paradise.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

AWESOME - Thats all I could say but read on !!!! The Nature Lodge is about 0.5km from Parletuvier and is amazing. You will need a 4x4 to get there which is best rented form Taylors Auto Rental in Castara which is about 5 miles away, and was recommended by Trevor. We got picked up at the airport and delivered to our accommodation with our 4x4. It is worth stopping at a supermarket on the way as the lodge is self catering which is amazing. Trevor met us and lives in his lodge behind, he is very respectful of privacy but also very social. Right the pictures on this site do not do the place justice, its so much better. The lodge is large with two big bedrooms a large kitchen dinner and its massive and in the rain-forest. The kitchen is amazing and the lodge also has a pool, you could spend two weeks in Tobago and never leave the place. Take bug repellant and use the fans but not too bad. Trevor is a font of knowledge and his employee Peter is also amazing , go on a rain forest tour with him or go fishing, try the local food, eat at Vanessa's. Its worth the 4x4 as you get to see the best bits , good beaches are Englishman's bay, Bloody Bay, Man o War Bay, Cambleton Bay ( Only accessible by boat- ask Peter) and Pirate's bay. Pastor Brent married us the 7/1/2012 at Trevor's private waterfall a must see, it was the best 6 of us walking down to the waterfall in humid hot weather all done up brilliant. What can I say go to Little Tobago, Eat Locally, Enjoy the real Tobago and Stay here I will be going back. Thanks Trevor and PeterDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/4

What can I say, This place is amazing. Trevor is one of the best hosts I know. The lodge is about .5km from Parletuvier and is a paradise, it is not for the faint hearted but if you want to stay somewhere out of the tourist area and in local community then this is the place for you. The lodge itself is not basic as many reviews have stated, it has a pool and a fully fitted kitchen with a location that is fantastic. You will need a 4x4 to get to the place and this best hired from Taylors Auto Hire is Castara, Trevor can give you the details. The place is safe no need to worry as everyone knows Trevor and I can highly recommend talking to Peter who works there, he can take you for tours of the rain forest or on fishing trips or just generally show you around. Vanessa's bar is awesome and the food is fantastic and they did the food for our wedding that Trevor helped us organise. The weather January was awesome not to hot and not to cold. I do recommend Bug repellant and sleep in long clothes but what do you expect for being in the rain forest. The locals are amazing and the beaches on the Caribbean side are fantastic such as Englishman's bay, Castara (Even if a bit commercial), Pirate Bay and Man o War Bay. We did not spend much time at Scarborough and Pigeon Point, but enjoyed the more relaxed atmosphere out of the towns. Pastor Brent married us on the 7/01/2012 at Trevor's private waterfall which is truly amazing the photo's just dont do it justice, in fact no of the photo's on this site do the place justice, you just have to see it for real. This place has lots of facilities, is remote but close to the best beaches and not full of tourists what more could you want. All I can say is I will definitely be going back and Trevor knew everybody and gave us fantastic advice. Peter his employee is a dude and full of local knowledge. This is a place for people who want to see the real Tobago. STAY THEREDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/6

Where to start...! The pictures on this site just don't do this property justice. The views are absolutely amazing, not only from the porch and pool area, but both bedrooms upstairs have expansive ocean views. This place is not for the timid or person looking for absoute luxury - this chateau is open air and is in the rainforest and as such you are one with the forest. You will become part of the landscape & wildlife. Currently there is a Queen and a twin in each bedroom, so you could sleep six. Each bedroom has full bathroom facilities and there is a 1/2 bath downstairs in the great room. And the waterfall, just amazing! You can hike and swim in the first pond of the waterfall or cross the pond and take another short hike up to the second pond where you can get directly under the fall and have a wonderful massage. Oh, and the waterfall hike through the rainforest comes with a tour guide, Max (Trevor's dog). Max is sweet as can be and will lead the way, waiting on you to catch up so you don't get lost. Trevor was available when needed but was extremely respectful of our privacy. He is full of information about the local area. One will also want to drive down the road (and yes, 4x4 is required) and have a few cocktails at Glasgow's. If there is anything that Trevor is unable to help you with, someone at Glasgow's will make it happen for you. We asked if they knew of anyone we could purchase lobsters from and within minutes we were talking to the lobster guy. He told us to come back the next morning at 9am. Low and behold he had someone deliver them to the Nature Lodge! They are very helpfgul indeed. The beach at Englishman's Bay is amazing for sunning yourself and having lunch at Eula's. We can not wait to return to Parlatuvier and Trevor's hideaway in the rainforest!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We spent 2 weeks in that wonderful house. It's much nicer than the photos! The bathrooms are great, the beds are fantastic, kitchen has best equipment, terrace and pool are fabulous! We are living together with geckos, gigantic grasshoppers, lots of birds – and some mosquitos. Every time well protected by "Max", the lovely dog of Trevor. If you're looking for a place with a unique and spectacular view, for a place for relaxing – Trevor's house is the best choice you ever can make! If you're looking for a typical caribbean high class resort with the opportunity for exclusive shopping, nightlife, expensive restaurants and beaches, where drinks are served at the deckchairs you'll be wrong on Tobago. This island is really unique in its original situation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers

A recommander ++++++Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Trevor's villa and hope to return. The accomodations are very romantic, if rustic (which we prefer), and the pool is to die for! Tobago was a very nice surprise, and we have traveled extensively in the Caribbean. It's as if nothing has changed since they filmed the Swiss Family Robinson back in the sixties. At least on the northern part of the island. Make sure you have 4WD to get to Trevor's. The road there is a bit rocky and you have to climb a bit. Trevor will provide rental car information (Taylor's) which is very convenient. Taylor will meet you at the airport and take you grocery store for supplies. With a 4WD car you can get anywhere on the island. Bring bug spray and sunscreen and you will have a wonderful time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

There is only one (or several thousand!) reason why this gets a good from us rather than an excellent - mosquitoes! They loved us. Of course the house is by the rainforest and is very open. We soon learnt that it was necessary to wear repellant all the time and long trousers/sleeves morning and evening when at the house (not a general problem for us when elsewhere). So pack plenty. For that reason I would not recommend this accomodation for children. It was hard to see my 10 year old upset and covered in bites (not to mention me spending hours applying repellant!). That said, the place is wonderful....great setting. I miss already the palm trees silhouetted against the purple dawn as I open my eyes in the morning and the sound of the birds - amazing! We enjoyed watching the birds eating the bananas and papayas next to the pool, encountered some fantastic bugs, geckos and a bat roosting in the bedroom! The stars and the fireflies were magical in the evenings. These are the things we'll remember. The house itself is really attractive, with some interesting pieces of art. The beds are very comfortable (there is actually a double and a single in both of the huge rooms), the kitchen has many gadgets including a coffee grinder and smoothie maker, the showers are good. Outside, the pool is pure and refreshing. Complete relaxation is yours when you lie in the hammock. Trevor lives just behind the house and is really helpful and very informative. Just a very kind man who obviously takes pride in his developing oasis. His caretaker (Rodell) and work men are also really friendly and a reassuring presence - much like all the Tobagonians we met really. I had been scared, frankly, by the home office website and other advice - but Tobago in our experience was so laid back and unthreatening. Tobago itself is a great place. So quiet and unspoiled. Every beach is a picture and all so accessible from Trevor's. I would echo what others have said - you do need a 4x4 vehicle as the track to the Lodge is steep and rough. we hired a very comfortable car from Sheppy's who were really helpful. We stocked up at Penny Savers on arrival at Crown Point, but there is also a meat shop and veg stall in nearby Castara and a mini supermarket in Parletuvier. These met our needs very well during our stay. There are also several restaurants within easy driving distance. All in all, an adventure and an experience on a beautiful island. Tobago, we'll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

When Trevor picked us up from our previous hotel he told us "this place will blow your mind". That is when I knew we were in for something really special. We had just stayed three nights at The Naturalist in Castara and had been disappointed not just by the on- going power tool construction outside our window but also by the rude treatment we received from the owner George. We were glad to be leaving but unsure of what lay in store. Trevor came to pick us up and we were pleased by his warm and chivalrous persona and handsome too! Soon we were leaving Castara and driving toward a greener paradise. Trevor didn't mind stopping along the way to pick up beer and other essentials. We had already done a huge shopping because we knew we would be somewhat remote. We Drove up a steep dirt road and the first part of the cabin we saw was the infinity pool cascading water over the edge. What we saw when we entered: A beautifully rustic cabin with all the amenities. This is not a four star hotel...This is a retreat. A peaceful energy surrounds every corner. The upstairs is hardwood flooring split into two huge bedrooms each with two beds surrounded by gauzy netting and a view going down the mountain to the ocean. The downstairs is a kitchen where we prepared many meals and a living room that opens onto the deck and pool. There is a wonderful view everywhere. There were little touches all around...Trevor had brought us fresh bananas and local farm fresh eggs. There was a cabinet full of towels and linens. Anything we didn't have Trevor tried to get us (his house is directly behind the cabin). There is a TV with satellite that we hardly used. Art and things collected from nature decorate the walls and we added a few of our own pieces. A short, well maintained path leads to your own private waterfall were a couple of us were moved to tears communing with nature. Trevor had construction happening outside our window as well. The difference was that it was three beautiful men, no power tools, and the slowest work pace I have ever seen. The men in Castara had all leered at us...These men were respectful of our privacy and kept to themselves (which gave US a chance to spy on THEM -GORGEOUS!). Trevor, a local 'Red Man', looked after us and lectured the men we made friends with about keeping us safe. The only drawbacks were the mosquitoes, especially after the rain, and that one of the beds' netting didn't work so well. Over all it was the highlight of our stay on Tobago. -AutumnRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

I would have to say that the listing was entirely accurate but the beauty, tranquility and peacefulness of the setting is difficult to capture in the photos. We were a group of four (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and the Rainbow Villa was perfect in size and comfort. Trevor was immensely helpful with all of our questions and made our stay truly wonderful. I have to admit, we came here to quietly relax but there were so many beautiful scenic vistas and unspoiled beaches, that we found ourselves exploring the island nearly everyday. The two maintenance guys at the property, Peter and Rodell, were also fabulous and were able to take us out fishing from Parlatuvier Bay and hiking on the Gilpin Trail in the rainforest. The car rental agencies and tourism information offices distribute a map of the island that shows facilities and attractions and it was well-used during our stay. I would strongly recommend it if you plan on doing a little bit of exploring. The waterfall behind Trevor's place is truly beautiful and refreshing after a warm afternoon. I think the highlights of some of the things we did that were truly exceptional were surfing lessons at Mt. Irvine with Dominic from Trinidad & Tobago Surf Experience. It was a lot of fun and everybody that participated were able to get up on a board and ride the waves. It was a lot of fun. The beaches were all exceptionally beautiful and uncrowded but I think our favourite was Pirate's Bay near the northwest tip of the island. The view from the road above was amazing and the 154 stairs down to the beach were well-rewarded. You have to try the Prawns at Vaness's Sunshine Restaurant near Bloody Bay.....they are amazing!! This became our favourite place to eat when we decided not to cook the local fare ourselves. If you are looking for a place to vacation that is genuine, laid-back, relaxed and generally non-commercialized, then Tobago is definitely for you. It was the reason we chose this vacation spot. There are a few large all-inclusive type of resorts on the west end of the island near Crown Point but I think you will truly miss the charm and the genuine Tobagan experience you will get by staying in a place like Trevor's Rainbow Villa. We will miss the morning birds!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We received a nice welcome from Trevor and he remained available to give us information/ride to town, etc. The pictures on the website of the Lodge looked inviting, but they did not do justice to the experience we had at this Nature Retreat in the hills of Tobago. The house is a two-story with open design that's very comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed the wide open windows (no screens), full kitchen, the living/dining room area, and comfortable bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and the pool & deck. The tropical wildlife we encountered was spectacular! We enjoyed watching the Humming birds feed just outside one of the bedroom windows. The property has a waterfall that you can hike to, a Must do. It's a 15-minute hike down to the falls; the trail begins about 25 feet from the house. It's a Lovely setting with clean, fresh water and an inviting natural pool. Recommendations: Camera, Hiking Shoes, Backpack, Sunscreen, Swimsuit, water shoes for pool in waterfalls and if driving bring/rent 4x4, . Very relaxing pace and friendly locals made us very comfortable. We've recommended highly it to friends/family and look forward to a return visit. It's almost two months since we have been to Parlatuvier – and still there was not a single day when our thoughts didn't drift there. This holiday definitely went beyond our expectations: We enjoyed total relaxation and unspoilt rural life in this beautiful part of the island. Staying in this big, comfortable and fully-equipped house, we had the chance to live from day to day: some days were dedicated to total laziness (lying in the hammock on the sunny terrace, having a bath in the pool, cooking, reading, playing games), some to adventurous excursions (exploring beaches, hiking the rainforest, finding quiet restaurants, mountainbiking, going out on a fisherboat). Coming from a big town, the experience of living inside the rainforest was amazing: In the mornings, we got up with the parrots, in the evening we went to bed with the bats, and after that we let ourselves be pampered to sleep by the noise of the nightly rain. A big part of the loveliness of this holiday played the local people, though – and most of all Trevor Patience, the owner of the house. He is a fantastic neighbour and a great company, helpful and unobtrusive, and he does everything he can to make you feel at home at his house. In fact, there is only one reason why not to recommend this rental: to keep Tobago off the beaten track and not let Paralatuvier be overrun by us tourists …Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

I am a mother of a three year old boy and i was totally rejuvenated in parlatuvier , I regained by sanity and felt so calm and relaxed... I laid in the pool sipping on my stag while my son slept 6 feet away from me in a hammock and watching the panoramic views i thought to myself i wish i could capture this moment and live in it forever!!!! The service was fantastic and we were occasionally spoilt with a fabulous meal done by trevor himself.. but all in all it was the humming birds that u awoke to in the morning and the parrots that flew by every once in a while, the beautiful swim in the waterfall and just the mere sound and serenity of this beautiful nature retreat that gave me back life after a hard year of work and struggles of everyday life!!!!!! thanks josephine!!!!Did you find this review helpful? We stayed in Parlatuvier in January 2011 for 2 weeks. The house sits high on a hill looking out to the ocean and surrounding tropical forests. It has 2 very spacious bedrooms with ensuites, a large living room/dining room, and a very well-equipped kitchen. There is a TV with Direct TV dish offering numerous stations but the scenery steals the show! There is a large deck outside with a pool that offered us a chance to cool off after being in the sun or coming back from the beach. The bedrooms have very comfortable beds and bed linens, and the baths have a generous supply of towels. It was a wonderful experience to waken to birds chirping and beautiful views out to sea! The property is clean and well-maintained. Trevor, the owner, lives nearby and was most helpful by suggesting daytrips we could take and places to eat, etc. We rented a small jeep which enabled us to tour the spectacular island of Tobago(the rainforest, different beaches,etc.). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Parlatuvier and hope we can return sometime soon(especially after coming home to lots of snow!). Thanks, Trevor, for helping to make our vacation a relaxing and memorable one. You are a great host, and we hope to see you again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

A lovely spacious secluded house full of character, reminding us of the houses that the Hobbits lived in in Lord Of The Rings, with arched windows and colourful glass bricks in the walls and interesting shells and sculptures. We were in need of some quiet relaxing time and could have not asked for anything more. We watched humming birds feeding and parrots flying past while having our coffee on the large wooden deck overlooking the jungle, enjoying the fantastic views with spectacular rainbows every morning. The birds became our alarm clock at dawn. An incredible sound! The hammock and large lounger on the deck next to the pool were perfect for hours of relaxing or reading..and we loved dipping in the rainwater filled pool for a cooling plunge. The house was very clean and kitchen well equipped, the beds and bedding comfortable. The bedrooms are enormous, with high vaulted wooden ceilings. There is cable tv with lots of movie channels. The house doesn't have air-conditioning but it didn't bother us at all. We were there early december and found the temperature perfect and there was a cooling breeze through the house. The house has plenty of ceiling fans but we didn't really need to use them. The huge open windows in the bedrooms upstairs gave us a magical view every dawn. In the evenings we would look at the stars above, sip rum, listen to the birds settling in their trees and watch the bats skimming around, hunting for insects. The gekkos would also appear, also hunting. This is a very natural feeling house and it's jungle location is stunning. There are very few mosquitos, the beds have good mosquito nets but bring your repellant, you are in the jungle! Englishman's Bay is a very short drive away which is one of the best, empty beaches in Tobago. Best to hire a small 4x4 to drive up and down the dirt road to the house. We enjoyed the house so much that ended up spending most of our time there. Trevor, the owner, is very welcoming relaxed charming host. He lives next door and was there when needed but gave us a complete privacy as well, perfect. It was a pleasure to meet him. Stock up with groceries when you leave airport as shops in closely by villages can be a bit basic.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We stayed here in February 2010 for two weeks and enjoyed the completely relaxed pace, comfortable, authentic accommodation and location immensly. The rain forest type location was charming, as were the parrots etc, and the waterfall magical. In order to get around the island, or to dive centres, you will need a car and we used a firm based at the airport, who were reasonable and agreeable. The weather was beautiful and as we wanted complete relaxation we mainly spent time on the deck, in the pool and at Englishman's Bay nearby, reading books and just hanging around Tobago-style. The most relaxing holiday we have ever taken, and for the owner nothing was too much trouble, with a liberal dose of Tobagan charm :-)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It was simply wonderful to wake up in the morning, jump in the pool and then go into the kitchen, make breakfast and start the day refreshed. All around there are beautiful exotic birds to be seen - parrots were the ones I could recognise. Behind the house is the waterfall reached on a path through the jungle. You are surrounded by nature - exotic trees, orchids, fantastic smells. At the waterfall you can forget time and space and be one with nature. The whole stress of everyday life simply melts away. If you want to go to the beach it is only a fifteen minute walk away. The local people in the village are very friendly - a smile on every corner. The beach is not over crowded and is more like a private beach. If you want a quiet day in, it is relaxing to lie around in a hammock and listen to the voice of nature. Cooking for yourself, as I did, is a fantastic experience. There is a wonderful selection of fresh produce available and you will get the freshest fish you have ever tasted. If you would rather eat out, you can eat in the village or take a car further afield. I am already looking forward to my next visit. I have found my spot. I live in Frankfurt in Germany and it is fantastic to get away from all the stress and be at one with nature. The sunsets are amazing. The setting is wonderful - just look at the pictures.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
