If you need medical services while in La Paz, you have several choices.
For major medical: The best hospital for English speakers is Fidepaz Hospital. It is located on the major street/highway going south and is easy to find as it is painted purple. Follow the Carreterra to the left of WalMart. You will see the purple building on your right peeking through the trees.
If you need an ambulance, dial the emergency number 066. You are at Kilometro catorce punto cinco de la Carreterra al Norte en El Centenario. (This means kilometer 14.5 on the highway going north in El Centenario.
To see an English-speaking doctor, we recommend Dr. Buenaventura Diaz-Lopez. He is located at the Fidepaz Hospital on the right of the front plaza. To make an appointment, you will need to call the main hospital at 124-0400. Just say “Doctor Diaz-Lopez” and they will understand. His receptionist does not speak English, but may transfer your call to the Doctor. An office visit is 500 pesos. (Dr. Diaz has attended several friends who had major problems – heart disease, injuries, etc. and all have highly recommended him to everyone.)
If you have a cold, stomach problems, or a minor injury, there is a clinic two blocks from the house going south, just after Super Pollo on Marquez de Leon. The Doctor is Denise Alvarez. She does not speak English well, but does understand quite a bit. She is only there after 3:30 in the afternoons or all day Saturday. An office visit is 40 pesos. The clinic number is 044-612-104-0964.
Medications: In Mexico, medications are provided in 3 strengths. Similar contains about 60% of the name brand effectiveness. Generico provides about 40% to 100%, depending on the generic. Brand names are sold by the pharmaceutical name – i.e., Claritin is Lortadina. You can get Similar at the pharmacy (Farmacia) next to the clinic two blocks from the house. WalMart’s pharmacy has both Generico (generic) and brand name medications. This is true at other large store pharmacies also, such as Mega, Chedraui and Soriana grocery stores, as well as Sam’s Club and City Club membership stores.

About: My name is Jim Nelson and I’m from Albuquerque, NM. I’m a helicopter pilot in the Army getting ready to retire from the Military after 30 years. The Casita has been a dream project of mine for many years. Staying in the Casita reminds me what life is really about. The people of La Paz don’t seem to let time rule them, their stress levels are way down or almost nonexistent. If you really need to unwind, and want total privacy, then the Casita is for you. As you probably already know, the La Paz area is a great place to experience life and have a great adventure. “Life begins on the outer edge of your comfort zone”
Why La Paz: I bought the lot and built the Casita in the La Paz area because I had such a great time visiting La Paz. The flight to La Paz from the west coast is short. The board walk in La Paz is by far the most beautiful I’ve seen to include anywhere in the Caribbean. I always feel a sense of adventure while I’m in La Paz and visiting Baja has helped give my family and friends memories they’ll never forget. I’ve been traveling the world over for 30 years in the military and I still love the peace and tranquility of the Casita and local area.
The Unique Benefits at this House: I love watching the sunrise over the water with the City of La Paz in the back ground, it's a great way to start a day. I also love to lay out at night next to the gas fire pit and star gaze... The Casita sits on 1.5 acres with over a 300 plants and trees. There are always birds to watch on the beach and humming birds around the casita. The Casita is so private that I’m not concerned about what I’m wearing, no one will know or care. Its great being able to walk, to one of the restaurants in the area and not have to drive all the time. The Casita is very laid back, peaceful and has a feeling of no worries. Living in the moment.
