Our spacious 3500 sq ft house was built in mid-19th century. We recently renovated it, adding a heated pool, terraces and gardens, and a new wing containing a dramatic living room, additional master bedroom suite and a large dining conservatory.
We gained additional space and installed modern comforts (including satellite TVs, broadband access and wi-fi) but kept the essence of Provencal style. All rooms are well ventilated and face South, with wide open views of vineyards and hilltop villages. There are many screened windows and French doors, plus airy, shaded conservatory on the ground floor. ` Maid, pool and garden service weekly (more if desired) and gourmet cooking/serving is available for modest fees. We will also gladly arrange for food shopping to be done in advance, so you can arrive to a full fridge and pantry.
The house with its extensive lawn and gardens is on a very quiet dead end road among the vineyards of Seguret, designated "one of the 100 most beautiful villages of France." A major market town, Vaison la Romaine, is four miles away.
The layout and facilities are ideal for a large family or for sharing, with five master bedrooms (each with private bath). One master bedroom has five window and three exposures; it therefore can get hot so we had it air conditioned. Four modern baths with tub and/or shower and two additional toilets. All bedrooms have plantation fans.
The sunlit 450 sq ft salon has 3 sets of French doors to the conservatory, pool and garden, ample seating and hi-fi. There are satellite TVs (with English-language news and programs, plus VCR and DVD players.
Dining options: modern eat-in kitchen, dining room seating 10, large dining veranda and a Provencal summer kitchen with BBQ/grill near the pool with plenty of garden tables, chairs, and an open dining / sitting terrace.
For more active leisure: great biking for racing and mountain bikes; hiking on the flat or on more challenging trails, including technical climbing in the nearby Dentelles de Montmirail; an 18-hole golf course 15 minutes away, and a tennis club (where you have guest privileges) even closer. There's even white water kayaking in season in the Ardeche Gorges.
Vaison la Romaine and Orange, with their archeological sites, cultural activities, fine restaurants and shopping, are minutes away. Avignon, the Papal city, is 25 miles away, and you can drive to Aix on Provence, Marseille and the Mediterranean coast in little more than an hour.
Music, dance and theater performances abound, and there are famed festivals - including opera in the unique Roman Theater in Orange, the Avignon Theater Festival, and jazz and classical festivals in Aix en Provence, and dance, theater and music performances in every town in the area. In Vaison la Romaine, most performances are in the outoor theater built in the 1st century AD by the Romans.
This is a very special home and not the usual rental variety. We want to share it with those who will love and respect it as much as we cherish it. |
