We spent 10 nights in Luna House, filled to capacity but still felt it was plenty spacious for 6 adults. We also had local friends over for dinner a couple nights and easily fit everyone. The house was spacious, clean, well-appointed, and well-situated - maybe 7-9 houses from the beach? You just have to cross the oceanfront road, which is easily done even loaded down with beach toys! Having the backyard pool was a huge bonus - we used it several times a day. it was clean when we arrived, and we did a bit of daily maintenance to remove leaves... the owner fully cleaned it again upon our checkout. The kitchen was well-stocked with full-size appliances, all necessary cooking & bar utensils, and plenty of dinnerware/ cookware. We also used the outdoor gas grill quite a bit. I'd recommend renting bikes for your group - cost approx $85/week and made it easy & "Eco" to get around town. Thanks Rocky!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Being that this was the first time I rented a vacation home, I didn't know what to expect. It started off great. Met Rocky and advised him that there were no extra paper towels upon the inital walkthrough and he brought some in a timely manner. My family and the other family we were vacationing with were just happy with the fact we were in Hawaii and didn't want to be too nitpicky. However, what happened at the end of our stay needs to be talked about. When I got home from my trip, I noticed a charge pending on my credit card. Then I noticed an email from Rocky indicating he had to buy a new bedspread b/c the one in the master bedroom was ruined due to diaper cream (Rocky thought it was bleach). First off, it would have been nice for Rocky to either call or email me first before charging my card at least out of courtesy. Rocky mentioned that we left the house in poor condition. We forgot to empty out two trash cans, one in each bathroom. Rocky mentioned that there were crumbs on the sofa. Actually, those crumbs were already there when we got there. We even found an extra spare key under the sofa along with crumbs, dust, etc. Obviously, whoever was cleaning the house before we got there never did a great job. But we didn't make a big deal at the time b/c like I said, we were in Hawaii. Not to mention, there was sand underneath the dining table when we arrived, but again, we didn't say anything. Included in the rental price is a cleaning fee. I pay someone to clean my house for less and so I find it hard to believe that a thorough job can't be done (Rocky mentioned that he had to pay an extra money out of his pocket for cleaning expenses). Also, the dishes were left in the dishwasher and were pre-rinsed, but we didn't run it b/c there was no more dishwashing soap. We even had to buy our own trash bags b/c the ones that were in the house were very small and flimsy. In addition, Rocky said the diaper cream didn't come off the bedspread so he had to buy a new one. I'm sure most people with kids would agree with me in that diaper cream does indeed come off. Rocky left a piece of paper with some info and directions, but it did not include directions for check out (meaning what we needed to do in terms of cleaning up, etc). What's the point of having a cleaning fee if we are supposed to clean everything to professional standards? However Rocky did find us a third crib which was great but still a bad ending to a great start.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.

I really, really like this house. It is completely comfortable and I could live in it year-round - roomy, great layout, and private. The furnishings are very nice - quality wood, not cheap rental stuff. It was quiet and it seemed like we could hear the surf at night, even though the beach was a block away. It's about a mile to downtown and in a non-descript neighborhood. The President's vacation home is within walking distance. I walked to town every day - a rental bicycle would be a worthy investment. We had a car, but the town is so walkable. The beach near the rental is great - nice sand, not crowded. And I loved having the pool.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This was a perfect house for our 2 families to share. There was a lot of room, and enough towels etc as well as bathrooms (there is an ensuit bathroom so all of us did not have to share one bathroom) for everyone! I must say as well, that the bed was very comfortable as well as the pillows! There was snorkel gear, boogie boards and beach chairs, so there was no worries about bringing anything extra from home. Owner was very nice and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of right until the very last sad day that we had to leave. The pool was clean and very refreshing! Ahem, one note though, please get some new BBQ utensils! We did not use the ones that were there as they were very rusty : ) Thanks for the great stay and memories, we hope to be back again one day!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.

Its larger than the pictures make it look. The ensuite bath has been updated with nice travertine tile. There are 2 other small units on the property but it feels like you are in a single family home. Beach is very nice and 1 block walk away. The toaster broke while we were there and owner had a new one there the next day. Lots of towels, boggie boards, large nice dining table, ice maker. Really everything you need. Gas BBQ was brand new but on the inexpensive side. Only complaint would be the beach chairs. There were only 2 and they were tiny. Costco which the owner obviously shops at sells heavy duty ones for $25 so i'm not sure why he hasn't gotten a few of those. No a/c but we didnt need it because of all the ceiling fans. Beach a block away is gorgeous and not crowded. Town is a mile away but there is a sports bar that was good within walking distance.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Aloha, Thanks for the feedback. We will add some beach chairs. Enjoy! Rocky

We have rented three of Rocky's properties on different occasions. Once again, we were not disappointed. The house is in a nice location close to the beach and the pool is a great place to unwind after a busy day in Kailua. Plan to return again. I would definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We stayed here over 2 years ago. I was so angry about how it was maintained and finished that I didn't want to review it for a long time. This is a multi-unit house. You are only renting the bottom floor. There is an apartment above and another unit behind the vacation rental. There is no privacy in the pool. The neighbors in the apartment above can see and hear every word that you say. The kitchen was shabby and hard to keep clean. The faucet did not work well. There are no frames or finishes on the doorways, closets, etc.. just a rough drywall seam. The closets were covered with old curtains. It was a very disappointing vacation.Owner response: Aloha, We are dissapointed this woman did not have a good vacation. We have the fact it is a duplex listed right on the website. Kitchen cainets and all furniture have been upgraded since this 2008 visit. Three years later this person is sending a review? Enjoy! Rocky

We just loved this house! The location is ideal (not touristy - nice neighborhood, really close to the beach (not crowded) and the town). The house is very spacious - we ate all of our meals on the large lanai. The kids absolutely loved the pool (and all of the inflatables available to use in the pool). The owners were more than accomodating (the gas grill wasn't working, and John swapped it out for us right away) - he even found a corkscrew for us! Many amenities included (several beach towels, pots and pans, laundry detergent, paper towels - even boogie boards!). I would highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children.

Sadly, our stay at Luna House was too brief, but we liked that: ~ We could hear the ocean at night ~ We could easily walk to Kailua Beach ~ The pool was beautiful and the temperature was perfect ~ Our hosts were warm and welcoming ~ The large lanai was the perfect spot to host a baby shower ~ There was plenty of space inside for everyone ~ We had EVERYTHING we needed (an iron and ironing board, pots and pans, hair dryer, plenty of towels, a blender, washer and dryer, etc.) We wholeheartedly recommend Luna House and will stay there on our next visit! Thanks for everything.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
