Ka Lae (South Point) cottage description

Because we are an eco-sanctuary we live off the grid. All of our electricity comes from solar panels. People who come here love to experience tranquility and 'voluntary simplicity' and they often come to remember the sacredness of the natural world.

Many people come to rekindle their connection with the earth and with the natural rhythms of life. We live respectfully with ourselves and other living beings.

We are devoted to the healing and renewal of individuals and groups, while living simply and in balance with nature.

This is an ideal place for fostering one's connection (and remembering one's interdependence) with beauty, creativity and nature!

We ask that all guests bring only organic, fragrant-free shampoos, soaps, conditioners, etc.

Everyone uses outdoor showers and composting toilets. All guests have access to high speed internet. (no wifi, due to emf's!)

The 'hale mahalo' (house of thanks) has two double futons. It is a beautiful space with a 320 sq. Ft. Living room and sleeping area ~ with bamboo flooring and ample closet space ~ a 192 sq. Ft. Studio, with high speed internet connection, a 120 sq. Ft. Upstairs loft and a small outdoor kitchen on the covered lanai (porch.) it overlooks a beautiful garden and Mauna loa volcano in the distance.

Surrounding the hale mahalo are colorful plants and trees, including sacred green Hawaiian ti and many others. A rainbow eucalyptus greets one at the front entry. Guests have their own private outdoor shower and a composting lua/toilet, as well as access to a larger community kitchen and shower.

All guests at kipukamaluhia have access to a beautiful yoga room and a hand-carved timor temple, for meditation, or just gazing at the ocean, a goddess temple and access to the exquisite gardens~

We do not provide laundry services. There are laundromats in ocean view and na'alehu.

This is a substance-free sanctuary.

                      Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: Born in California, Rashani is a prolific artist and musician and has published several books. She moved to Europe in 1970, where she lived for 22 years. She renovated a 17th century stone farm house in the south of France and was called to Hawai'i in 1991. She is a well respected mentor, who travels the world offering concerts, councils, retreats and private sessions. She has spent the past ten and a half years co-creating this unique healing center, with hundreds of volunteers, where she offers individual and group retreats throughout the year. Prior to that she had spent twelve years co-creating another healing center, up the road: (It is currently on the market.) She welcomes people from many different cultures and backgrounds and is delighted to make new acquaintances. Many guests who come here are familiar with her greeting cards, which she began designing in 1988: Guests who stay for a week receive a copy of her book, 'Beyond Brokenness' and guests who stay for more than ten days receive a complimentary healing session with Rashani.

Why the Owner Chose Ka Lae (South Point):
KIPUKA: Variation or change of form, as an opening in a forest; an oasis or island, often vegetated, of older land surrounded by a more recent lava flow. MALUHIA: Peace, quiet, security, restful, serenity; peaceful. To cause or give peace; protect. A place of worship. LA‘AKEA: Sacred light. It is called 'Kipukamaluhia' for short! Having lived 3 miles from Kipukamaluhia for more than a decade, Rashani came to love the region of Ka'u, which is a very special part of the Big Island. Ka Lae, also known as 'South Point' is a very sacred area and it is where the first Polynesian people settled, when they first arrived on the island. Green sand beach is about seven miles from here and is one of the most magical places on this island! At Kipukamaluhia, we refer to “the living dharma,” which is not limited to any specific practice, religion, scripture or spiritual trapping of any kind. The traditional Hawaiian way of life has a great emphasis on direct experience which is in alignment with our deepest values and aspirations as it points to the essence of reality. Our intention is to steward the land by honoring its natural beauty and to provide a sanctuary to those seeking sacred simplicity and a more authentic connection with themselves and the earth, for the benefit of all beings. Here where the grasslands and an indigenous forest meet, nestles an abundance of biodiversity.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This particular land has powerful healing qualities and people can feel it as soon as they arrive. It is 'off the beaten track,' in a unique, somewhat hidden part of Ka'u. Hawaiian owls nest in the trees nearby and one can hear the ocean on a windless day. Because it is a retreat center, people come with specific intentions of looking more compassionately into themselves and inquiring into life in a deeper way. As a result, it is a place to meet oneself (and others) in a new way! Peacocks, cats and dogs share the land with us as well as four miniature goats and a donkey~ There are also ever-expanding flower & herb gardens and orchards and a deep sense of peace is here for all who come to visit.
