Year Purchased: 1988
About the owner: I am a bilingual teacher for the San Diego County Office of Education Juvenile Court Schools. I bought this property when I was expecting my daughter and raised her here. Now that she has finished college and the nest is empty, I am ready to travel a bit.
Why the Owner Chose Coronado: There are very few places in California where a historic neighborhood exists directly alongside a beach. The best beaches were developed first, and this property was subdivided in 1888 when the Hotel del Coronado was built. The first homes here were mansions the scale of those in Newport Rhode Island. Wealthy people from the east coast would spend the summer here at the Hotel del and at the first polo grounds (now gone)in California. Many stunning large homes still exist, although there has also been a lot of new development in the last several years.
The Unique Benefits at this House: This property offers all the comforts of a formal house, furnished with antiques with the location alongside a lovely beach, with cool breezes and wonderful salt air. Coronado is flat and perfect for biking or walking to any type of restaurant, bar, sport, spa or service you might want. Although located next to the beach, the house is recessed a bit so it is very private and quiet, in the midst of beach activity.
